Analysis of specific grinding energy using average grain model (평균입자모델을 이용한 비연삭에너지 해석)

  • As a new approach to analyze grinding energy, this paper introduces a specific grinding energy model based on the average grain. Using this model, grinding characteristics such as radial and tangential forces, specific grinding energy of SM45C were investigated with changing grinding variables such as workpiece velocity(v) and apparent depth of cut(Z) in down-surface grinding. From the experimental results, the specific grinding energy decreases as the maximum undeformed chip thickness increases. And there is no significant difference between the specific grinding energies of the existing and the proposed model.

  • In Korea, the current design codes for the bridge vessel collision load are based on AASHTO LRFD code which derived from the mean collision forces of the Woisin's test. To estimate the conservativeness of the code, in this study, the mean forces of head on collisions were evaluated from the mass-acceleration relationship of vessel and the deformation-kinetic energy relationship of bow those obtained from the series of nonlinear finite element analysis, and the mean forces were compared to that in AASHTO design code. As results, the variations of the mean forces versus the sizes of vessels were represented similar tendency, even those of the code are very conservative. However, the variations of mean collision force versus those of collision speeds were dominated by the plastic deformation of bow and it was differ from those of the code that have linear relationship with the collision speeds.

Unsteady Ignition in the Pulse Combustor with Counter Jet Flows (대향분출류가 있는 맥동연소기의 비정상 점화현상)

  • An analytical study has been performed to investigate the unsteady ignition characteristics of pulse combustion. In many combustion applications, strain rate of the flow can significantly affect the combustion features; ignition, extinction, and reignition. In the pulse combustion, two jets (hot combustion gases and fresh mixtures) coming from the opposite side of the combustor will collide in the combustor forming a stagnation region where the chemical reaction is suppressed by the strain rate until this becomes below the critical value. In this research, the method of large activation energy asymptotic is adopted with one step irreversible kinetics to examine the ignition response to the periodic variation of the strain rate of flow. The results show the variation of the maximum value of strain rate can determine whether the ignition or extinction occur.

Behaviors of Soft Bangkok Clay behind Diaphragm Wall Under Unloading Compression Triaxial Test (삼축압축 하에서 지중연속벽 주변 방콕 연약 점토의 거동)

  • The simple linear elastic-perfectly plastic model with soil parameters $s_u,\;E_u$ and n of undrained condition is usually applied to predict the displacement of a constructed diaphragm wall(DW) on soft soils during excavation. However, the application of this soil model for finite element analysis could not interpret the continued increment of the lateral displacement of the DW for the large and deep excavation area both during the elapsed time without activity of excavation and after finishing excavation. To study the characteristic behaviors of soil behind the DW during the periods without excavation, a series of tests on soft Bangkok clay samples are simulated in the same manner as stress condition of soil elements happening behind diaphragm wall by triaxial tests. Three kinds of triaxial tests are carried out in this research: $K_0$ consolidated undrained compression($CK_0U_C$) and $K_0$ consolidated drained/undrained unloading compression with periodic decrement of horizontal pressure($CK_0DUC$ and $CK_0UUC$). The study shows that the shear strength of series $CK_0DUC$ tests is equal to the residual strength of $CK_0UC$ tests. The Young's modulus determined at each decrement step of the horizontal pressure of soil specimen on $CK_0DUC$ tests decreases with increase in the deviator stress. In addition, the slope of Critical State Line of both $CK_0UC$ and $CK_0DUC$ tests is equal. Moreover, the axial and radial strain rates of each decrement of horizontal pressure step of $CK_0DUC$ tests are established with the function of time, a slope of critical state line and a ratio of deviator and mean effective stress. This study shows that the results of the unloading compression triaxial tests can be used to predict the diaphragm wall deflection during excavation.

Mechanical and Repair Performance of Sprayed Ductile Fiber Reinforced Cememtitious Composite(ECC) (습식스프레이공법으로 타설된 고인성 섬유보강 모르타르(ECC)의 역학적 특성과 보수 성능)

  • This paper presents an experimental study on the potential durability enhancement of infrastructures repaired by a sprayed high ductile fiber-reinforced cementitious composite (ECC). For this study, a PVA-ECC which exhibits sprayable properties in the fresh state and tensile strain-hardening behavior in hardened state was sprayed and tested. The experimental results show that the sprayed ECC exhibits mechanical properties with strain capacity comparable to the cast ECC with the same mix design. During loading, the crack widths of ECC are tightly controlled with an average of 30${\mu}m$. It is also revealed that when sprayed ECC is used as a repair material, ductility represented by deformation capacity at peak load of repaired beams in flexure are obviously increased in comparison to those of commercial prepackaged mortar (PM) repaired beams. In addition to high delamination resistance, the significant enhancement of energy absorption capacity and crack width control in ECC repair system suggest that sprayed ECC can be effective in extending the service life of rehabilitated infrastructures.

A Study of Low Cycle Fatigue Characteristics of 11.7Cr-1.1Mo Heat Resisting Steel with Mean Stress (Mean Stress를 고려한 11.7Cr-1.1Mo강의 고온저주기 피로특성에 관한 연구)

  • The Low cycle fatigue behavior of 11.7Cr-1.1Mo heat-resisting steel has been investigated under strain-controlled conditions with mean stresses at room temperature and $300^{\circ}C$. For the tensile mean stress test, the initial high tensile mean stress generally relaxed to zero at room temperature, however, at $300^{\circ}C$ initial tensile mean stress relaxed to compressive mean stress. Low cycle fatigue lives under mean stress conditions are usually correlated using modifications to the strain-life approach. Based on the fatigue test results from different stain ratio of -1, 0, 0.5, and 0.75 at room temperature and $300^{\circ}C$, the fatigue damage of the steel was represented by using cyclic strain energy density. Total strain energy density considering mean stress indicated well better than not considering mean stress at $300^{\circ}C$. Predicted fatigue life using Smith-Watson-Topper's parameter correlated fairly well with the experimental life at $300^{\circ}C$.

Effects of Crack Velocity on Fracture Resistance of Concrete (콘크리트의 파괴저항에 대한 균열속도의 영향)

  • Tests of concrete CLWL-DCB specimens had been conducted with displacement-controlled dynamic loading. The crack velocities for 381mm crack extension were 0.80 mm/sec ~ 215m/sec. The external work and the kinetic and strain energies were derived from the measured external load and load-point displacement. The fracture resistance of a running crack was calculated from the fitted curves of the fracture energy required for the tests. The standard error of the fracture energy was less than 3.2%. The increasing rate of the fracture resistance for 28 mm initial crack extension or micro-cracking was relatively small, and then the slope of the fracture resistance increased to the maximum value at 90∼145 mm crack extension depending on crack velocity. The maximum fracture resistance remained for 185 mm crack extension, and then the faster crack velocity showed the faster decreasing rate of the maximum fracture resistance. The maximum fracture resistance increased proportionally to the logarithm of the crack velocity from 142 N/m to 217 N/m when the crack velocity was faster than 0.273 m/sec. The maximum fracture resistance of the fastest tests was similar to the average fracture energy density of 215 N/m. To measure the fracture resistance of concrete, the stable crack extension should be larger than 90∼145 mm depending on crack velocity.

Modeling Method for the Force and Deformation Curve of Energy Absorbing Structures to Consider Initial Collapse Behaviour in Train Crash (열차 충돌에너지 흡수구조의 초기붕괴특성을 고려하기 위한 하중-변형 곡선 모델링 방법)

  • The Korean rolling stock safety regulation stipulates that the collision deceleration of a car body should be maintained under average 5g and maximum 7.5g during train collisions. One-dimensional dynamic model of a full rake train, which is made up of nonlinear springs/bars-dampers-masses, is often used to estimate the collision decelerations of car bodies in a basic design stage. By the way, the previous studies have often used some average force-deformation curve for energy absorbing structures in rolling stock. Through this study, we intended to analyse how much the collision deceleration levels are influenced by the initial peak force modeling in the one-dimensional force-deformation curve. The numerical results of the one-dimensional dynamic model for the Korean High-Speed Train show that the initial peak force modeling gives significant effect on the collision deceleration levels. Therefore the peak force modeling of the force-deformation curve should be considered in one-dimensional dynamic model of a full rake train to evaluate the article 16 of the domestic rolling stock safety regulations.

유연소재 천 기반의 슈퍼캐패시터 저장체의 전기화학적 성능 향상

  • 최근에 유연한 성질을 갖는 전자기기들의 수요가 증가하면서, 그에 따라서 유연 전자기기를 뒷받침 해줄 수 있는 에너지 저장체의 유연한 성질도 중요성이 점점 부각되고 있으며 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 유연한 에너지 저장체의 많은 연구들이 유연한 금속 박막이나 특수 공정처리가 필요한 고분자를 이용하고 있으나, 대부분의 유연 에너지 소자들은 에너지 저장체의 성능에 비해 고온과 산 약품과 같은 환경이 필요하며, 비용과 시간이 많이 소모되고 있다. 그에 반해 섬유는 앞에서와 같이 특수 공정 처리가 따로 필요하지 않으며 상온에서도 손 쉽게 이용 가능하며, 신축성이 뛰어난 장점이 있기 때문에 효율적, 비용적으로 유연한 에너지 저장체에 유리한 소재이다. 몸에 해로운 산과 같은 약품처리의 필요도 없으며, 용매를 흡수하는 능력이 뛰어나기 때문에 용매를 이용한 도포 방법을 사용하면 다양한 물질을 폭넓게 적용 가능하다. 그리고 적용 분야에 맞춰서 섬유의 종류를 조절하면 다양한 성질을 갖는 천 기반의 에너지 저장체가 형성되며, 면 섬유가 수소 결합과 높은 반데르 발스 결합에 의해 탄소나노튜브와 결합하여 높은 에너지 밀도를 갖는 에너지 저장체를 형성하는 것을 분석한 논문들도 보고되고 있다. 면 섬유의 특수한 성질을 이용하여 에너지 저장체를 제작하고 이를 확인하기 위해서 일반 합성 섬유인 polyester와 면 섬유를 비교 제작하였으며, 용매의 형태로 손쉽게 도포 가능한 물질은 탄소 계열의 활물질들이며, 탄소 나노 튜브나 그래핀 등이 분산된 용액을 이용해 천에 도포 가능하다. 탄소 계열의 활물질들은 대표적인 슈퍼캐패시터 물질이며, 천에 도포를 함으로써 천 기반의 슈퍼캐패시터를 제작하였다. 일반 합성 섬유 polyester와 CNT를 결합한 형태의 전극은 최대 에너지 축전 용량(Maximum specific capacitance)이 53.6 F/g으로 나타났으며, 면 섬유와 CNT를 결합한 형태의 전극은 최대 에너지 축전 용량이 122.1 F/g으로 나타났다. 따라서 면 섬유에서 높은 에너지 저장 능력을 보이는 것을 실험적으로 확인하였으며, 에너지 저장 능력이 뛰어난 면 섬유를 다음 전극 디자인에서도 일률적으로 적용하였다. 슈도캐패시터의 대표적 물질인 금속 산화물인 망간 산화물(MnO2)을 3전극 도금 시스템을 이용하여 에너지 축전 용량과 에너지 밀도를 올리는 전극을 제작하였다. 특히 망간 산화물의 형태는 표면적을 극대화하기 위해서 평균 지름은 200~300 nm 정도 되는 나노 입자의 형태로 제작하였다. 그 결과, 확연하게 에너지 축전 용량이 향상되었으며, 최대 에너지 축전 용량은 282.0 F/g, 에너지전력 밀도는 14.2 Wh/kg으로 나타나서 금속 산화물의 형태가 주는 효과를 확인할 수 있었다. 하지만 나노 입자의 형태로 제작된 금속 산화물은 문제점이 발생하였다. 금속 산화물의 전기 전도성이 매우 낮기 때문에, 전기 전도성에 비례해서 전력 밀도의 값이 표현되는데, 전기 전도성이 급격히 감소하기 때문에 전력 밀도도 급격한 감소가 나타난다. 다음과 같이 전기 전도성 물질을 첨가하는 방법은 추가의 공정이 필요한 단점이 있지만 오직 기계적인 인장응력만을 가해서 에너지 밀도와 전력 밀도를 증가시키는 전극을 제작하였다. 인장응력을 섬유 기반의 전극에 가했을 시에 가닥들간의 접촉 증가와 CNT가 정렬되면서 특정 변형률(strain) 이전에서는 전기 전도성이 최대 50% 이상 증가하는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 선행 연구에서 보고되었다. 이를 이용해서 전기 전도성과 직결되는 전력 밀도의 양도 증가시키고 에너지 밀도의 증가 여부까지 확인한 결과 인장을 가하기 전 면 섬유의 전력 밀도와 에너지 밀도는 6.4 kW/kg and 6.1 Wh/kg으로 나타났으나 30% 변형 인장 후에는11.4 kW/kg과 7.1 Wh/kg으로 나타났다. 그리고 망간 산화물을 첨가한 전극 역시 4.9 kW/kg과 14.2 Wh/kg으로 나타났었으나 인장 이후 전력 밀도는 14.2 kW/kg, 에너지 밀도는 17.6 Wh/kg으로 확연하게 증가한 것을 확인하였다.

A Basic Study of Crashworthiness Optimization Using Homogenization Method(II) (균질화법을 이용한 충돌 최적화 기초 연구(II))

  • The homogenization method is applied to maximize crash energy absorption for a given volume. Optimization analysis off closed-hat type example problem is conducted with different impact velocities and thicknesses. The results show that the bending-type deformation for the original design is changed to the folding-type deformation for a new design with a hole, which is partly due to the increase of the crash energy absorption for the new design. Dynamic mean crushing loads of the original and new design are compared with those by the theoretical equation by Wierzbicki. It shows that the dynamic mean crushing loads of new designs are very close to those by Wierzbicki's equation.
