To examine the forest structure and variation of samara and leaf shape of Acer pictum subsp. mono (APSM), We investigated forest structure and samara angles and length, and leaf shape in three natural population of APSM in Yanggu-gun, Youngyang-gun and Kwangyang-si from June 2012 to October 2013. Mean importance percentage (MIP) of APSM is shown lower values in Yanggu 19.8%, in Youngyang 22.0%, and in Kwangyang 17.1%, respectively. In middle layer, importance percentage (IP) of APSM is shown lower values than that of Acer pseudosieboldianum and Carpinus cordata. In lower layer, importance percentage (IP) of APSM is shown lower values in Yanggu 1.8%, in Youngyang 1.9%, and in Kwangyang 0.0%, respectively. From these results, MIP of APSM in natural population might be reduced in future. Angles between wings and samara length are significantly different between districts. APSM with seven palmate vein leaf are distributed more frequently at Kwangyang and Youngyang than Yanggu. Percentages of biserrate leaf is shown in Yanggu 0.6%, in Youngyang 15.8%, and in Kwangyang 20.4%, respectively. These results implies genetic variation in natural APSM population and further studies on the genetic variation analysis in natuel population of APSM should be needed.
The purpose of this study was to suggest vegetation management Planning and plant community structure of Camellia Japonica forest at Hakdong, Kojedo, Hallyo-Haesang National Park. Forty-six plots(l00$\m^2$/plot) were established in Camellia japonica forest and surveyed. By DCA ordination technique and mean importance value analysis, the plant communities were classified into four community types, which were Camellia japonica community, Camellia japonica-Eurya japonica community, Camellia japonica-Neolitsea sericea community, Chumaecyparis obtusa-Camellia japonica community. It was supposed that Camellia japonica-Neolitsea sericeu community succeeded to Neolitsea sericea community. The others would not be replaced by another woody species. The vegetation management for successional controls in long-term basis were suggested; for the short-term basis, the species of Chamaecyparis obtusa, Neolitsea sericea and Eurya japonica should be removed. The species of Quercus serrata, Prunus sargentii, Meliosma myriantha, Machilus thunbergii and Litsea japonica. must be controlled under the long-term management of vegetation.
This study is aimed at analyzing the structural characteristics of vegetation in the Sangwonsa(Temple) valley, Yongmunsan(Mt.), and to collect basic data for research of large mountains which are located in the temperate, central region. The research on the entire vegetation struc trees are distributed over a wide area, accounting for 75.0% of theture of Sangwonsa(Temple) valley observed that oak total vegetation in the area. We examined 17 plots(unit area: $400m^2$) in the deciduous forest, dividing the trees into 5 community types based on the average important value. The 5 community types are as follows: A mixed dominant group of Carpinus laxiflora and Quercus serrata, a mixed dominant group of Quercus serrata and Quercus variabilis, a mixed dominant group of Quercus mongolica and Quercus serrata, a dominant group of Quercus serrata, a dominant group of Acer pictum supsp. mono. It is expected that the oak trees competing with Carpinus laxiflora and Acer pictum supsp. mono would flourish in a deciduous forest. The Shannon's species diversity index(H') was 0.3708~1.3083.
Baekdudaegan field survey has been proposed and presented as a various plan such as field survey analysis, management and restoration plan, etc. Whereas, the concerns of the Jeongmaek has increased continuously, nevertheless there is no research of present condition for Jeongmaek. This paper is to contribute to suggest for management and restoration as a basic study of vegetation structure in Yongso valley. We set up 30 plots($100m^2$) to verify the vegetation structure. As a result of classification analysis used by DCA, the type of 5 communities i.e. Pinus densiflora community, Betula schmidtii community, Populus maximowiczii community, Quercus mongolica community, Q. variabilis community were the most representative of Yongso valley vegetation communities. P. densiflora community was mainly distributed in the ridge of mountain, ridge of steep slope and stony area. In that reason, they avoid to compete with B. schmidtii community and Q. spp. community. In addition, the appearance of Rhododendron micranthum was mainly characteristics in the P. densiflora community. Species diversity indices(H') of groups were ranged from 0.7914~0.9942, the tree ages were 30~115 years. According to these results, the forests of Yongso valley not only form muti-layer vegetation structures but also have a great ecological value for protection and preservation.
To investigate the structure and the conservation strategy of Korean native species, the Abies koreana forest at sub-alpine zone centering on the Witsaeorum(1,714m) shelter in Hallasan National Park was selected for a survey subject with 20 plots $(10{\times}10m)$ set up with random sampling method. Mean importance percent(MIP) of Abies koreana showed the highest numerical value-57.7%, and that of faxus cuspidata was the next value-16.2%. High positive correlations were shown between Taxus cuspidata and Prunus maximowiczii, Euonymus alatus; Betula ermani and Berberis amurensis var. quelpaertensis, Prunus sargentii; Prunus maximowiczii and Euonymus alatus; Berberis amurensis var. quelpaertensis and Prunus sargentii. Vigor of Abies koreana was so low that as much as 6.44% of total number of Abies Koreana investigated were dead. DBH of dead individuals ranged mainly from 5cm to 15cm.
This study was conducted to evaluate the vegetation structure of 34 plots for inspection(plot unit: $100m^2$)of evergreen broad-leaved forest in Dongbaekdongsan(Mt.), Jeju-do, Korea. In accordance with the results of TWINSPAN and mean importance percentage analysis, the target forest was aged $28{\sim}52$, and classified into seven community types in total: Ilex rotunda community, Castanopsis sieboldii community, Castanopsis sieboldii-Quercus glauca community, Quercus glauca-Castanopsis sieboldii community, Quercus glauca community, Quercus glauca-Camellia japonica community, and Quercus glauca-Styrax japonica community. According to the results of importance percentage analysis and DBH class distribution of major woody species, the vegetational aspects showed that the dominant species were Castanopsis sieboldii and Quercus glauca in the canopy layer and Camellia japonica in the subordinate layer. Ilex rotunda and Quercus glauca-Styrax japonica community were damaged vegetation in the canopy layer. According to the index of Shannon's diversity in the six communities including the dominant species - Quercus glauca and Castanopsis sieboldii, their species diversity degree was $0.8745{\sim}1.3018$ and that of Ilex rotunda community was the lowest 0.7619. Camellia japonica, Eurya japonica, Ilex rotunda, Trachelospermum asiaticum var. intermedium, Ardisia crenata appeared in all the seven communities. In addition, Litsea coreana and Cinnamomum japonicum as well as Neolitsea serica presumed as climax species in the warm temperate climate also appeared and the constancy ratio of Cinnamomum japonicum was more than 80%. As a result, the target forest in Dongbaekdongsan(Mt.) was mainly compose of Castanopsis sieboldii and Quercus glauca in the canopy layer as a mixed vegetational pattern, and Cameliia japonica was dominant in the subordinate layer. Continuous monitoring was required, since Camellia japonica was strong in the subordinate layer in contrast to the weakness of Litsea coreana and Neolitsea serica reported as the species of climax stage in the forest with Evergreen Broad-leaved Vegetation at a viewpoint of successional direction.
To investigate the vegetation structure of mountain ridge from Namdeogyusan to Sosajae in Baekdudaegan which is the greatest chain as well as the major ecological axix of the Korean Peninsula, sixteen sites(size 500$m^2$) were set up and surveyed. By using TWINSPAN technique, the plants community was divided and summarized into five groups, those are four Quercus mongolica dominated communities and Quercus mongolica-Pinus densiflora community. Four Quercus mongolica dominated communities have differentiated from subtree dominant species. Vegetation structure of each community have explained using important percentage by layer. In descriptive analysis, average number of species is 27.8$\pm$7.5 and average number of individuals is 687.6$\pm$326.8 at unit area(500$m^2$).
This study was carried out to analysis the structure of forest vegetation at the southern and northern slopes of Mt. Kum in Namhae. The results obtained were summarized as follows : The upper layer of south slope at the altitude of 100m was only distributed at Pinus thunbergii and Pinus densiflora. According to increase of altitude, the importance value of Pinus thunbergii was more decreased. In the upper layer of north slope, importance value of Pinus thunbergii was very high in the altitude of 100m, and was very low in the 200m. And also, importance value of Quercus variabilis and Steuortia koreana was high from 200m to 600m. The number of individuals of Pinus thunbergii and Pinus densiflora in the south slope were more increased than those of the north slope. The distributional class of D.B.H, showed an equal tendency in south and north slope, especially-Quercus variabilis and Quercus serrata had a good growth in north slope. The stand density in the upper lacer was high in south slope but mean acreage and mean distance of individual trees showed low. The species diversity indices were relatively lower in south slope than in north slope, and the maximum of species diversity showed slightly high in south slope. The evenness showed lower in south slope than in north slope relatively. By the cluster analysis used the similarity.
This study was carried out to provide a basic data for preservation of Pinus desiflora forest as cultural landscape forest by analyzing characteristics of plant community of P. desiflora forest in Geumjeongsan(mountatin) in Busan city. In order to analyze plant community of P. densiflora in Geumjeongsan, we set up 10 study plots inside and 8 plots outside of Geumjeongsansung(mountain fortress, hereinafter 'Sansung')(unit area: $400m^2$), a total of 18 plots. TWINSPAN analysis divided these 18 study plots into 6 communities which are Querqus serrata-P. desiflora community, P. desiflora community, P. desiflora-Q. serrata community, P. thunbergii-P. densiflora community, P. densiflora-P. thubergii-Q. acutissima community, and P. densiflora-Platycarya strobilacea community. Importance Percentage (I.P.) of each area and DBH class distribution of main species showed that P. densiflora community would succeed to Q. serrata community or C. tschonoskii community. Analysis on tree age found out that communities in the Sansung were 32~37 years old and those outside the Sansung were 44~57 years old. Shannon's species diversity index ranged from 0.4826 to 1.2499. Regarding correlation between species, P. densiflora had negative correlation with Styrax japonica. Based on abovementioned result we expected ecological succession from P. densiflora community to Q. serrata community inside of the Sansung. Outside the Sansung, succession from P. densiflora-P. thunbergii community to C. tschonoskii-Q. serrata community was expected. In order to manage P. densiflora forest as cultural landscape forest, Q. spp in the understory and shrub layer and deciduous broad-leaved arboreal trees should be managed. Tree crown management of deciduous broad-leaved trees in competition with P. desiflora, is also required.
