An Estimation of Breakthrough Curve of Activated Carbon Adsorption Column (활성탄 흡착칼럼의 농도변화곡선 추정)

  • Adsorption equilibrium experiments for the phenol on granular activated carbon(16~25 mesh) and powder activated carbon(325 mesh) were carried out at $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and the results were expressed with Freundlich isotherm. Adsorption rate experiments were executed in batch adsorption system under the condition that can be neglecting mass transfer resistance at the external surface of the particle. The results were analysed with the Miller's method to evaluate the linear driving force(LDF) adsorption rate constant. Fixed bed adsorption experiments were performed by adopting different flow rates in the activated carbon-phenol system at $25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The theoretical breakthrough curves were estimated with the simple constant pattern solution. The adsorption rate constant of LDF model was not a fixed value but variable with adsorption amount. The experimental results were better agreed with the estimation of breakthrough curve using the variable adsorption rate constant than the results estimated using the average fixed adsorption rate constant.

The Segmented Polynomial Curve Fitting for Improving Non-linear Gamma Curve Algorithm (비선형 감마 곡선 알고리즘 개선을 위한 구간 분할 다항식 곡선 접합)

  • In this paper, we proposed non-linear gamma curve algorithm for gamma correction. The previous non-linear gamma curve algorithm is generated by the least square polynomial using the Gauss-Jordan inverse matrix. However, the previous algorithm has some weak points. When calculating coefficients using inverse matrix of higher degree, occurred truncation errors. Also, only if input sample points are existed regular interval on 10-bit scale, the least square polynomial is accurately works. To compensate weak-points, we calculated accurate coefficients of polynomial using eigenvalue and orthogonal value of mat11x from singular value decomposition (SVD) and QR decomposition of vandemond matrix. Also, we used input data part segmentation, then we performed polynomial curve fitting and merged curve fitting results. When compared the previous method and proposed method using the mean square error (MSE) and the standard deviation (STD), the proposed segmented polynomial curve fitting is highly accuracy that MSE under the least significant bit (LSB) error range is approximately $10^{-9}$ and STD is about $10^{-5}$.

전산화 폐관류주사를 이용한 폐절제술후 폐기능의 예측

  • A preoperative prediction of postoperative pulmonary function after the pulmonary resection should be made to prevent serious complications and postoperative mortality. There are several methods to predict postoperative lung function but the 99m7c-MAA perfusion lung scan is known as simple, inexpensive and easily tolerated method for patients. We studied the accuracy of the perfusion lung scan in predicting postoperative lung function on 34 patients who received either the resection of one lobe(17 patients) or 2 lobes(2 patients) or pneumonictomy(15 patients). We performed pulmonary function test and lung scan immediately before the operation and calculated the postoperative lung function by substracting the regional lung function which will be rejected. We compared this predictive value to the observed pulmonary function which was done 20 days after the surgery. We also compared the data achieved from 12 patients ho received open thoracotomy due to intrathoracic disease that are not confined in the lung. The correlation coefficient between the predicted value and observed value of FEVI .0 was 0.423, FVC was 0.557 in the pneumonectomy group and FEVI . 0 was 0.693, FVC was 0.591 in the lobectomy group. The correlation coefnclent between the'postoperative value and preoperative value of FEVI .0 was 0.528, FVC was 0.502 in the resectional group and FEVI .0 was 0.871, FVC was 0.896 in the comparatives. We concluded that the perfusion lung scan is accllrate in predicting post-resectional pulmonary function.

Minimization of Excess Activated Sludge in Nonwoven Fabric Filter Bioreactor (부직포 여과막 생물반응조에서의 폐활성슬러지 감량화)

  • Among the various methods for minimization of waste activated sludge, maintaining a low F/M ratio in the bioreactor is known to be the most effective reliable one. In this research, various experiments were performed to check the capability of the nonwoven fabric filter bioreactor, which has been proved able to maintain a low F/M ratio by maintaining a high MLSS concentration, for excess sludge minimization. The reactor was intermittently fed with a synthetic wastewater having a COD concentration of approximately 300 mg/L and no SS. Results of the experiments showed that the F/M ratio in the reactor decreased to a minimum value of 0.02 g COD/g MLSS-day as the MLSS concentration increased to a maximum value of 31,010 mg/L. However, the measured endogenous decay coefficients and oxygen uptake rates of the MLSS confirmed that the activity of the MLSS decreased as the MLSS concentration increased. Based on the increase of MLSS in the reactor and the mass balance during the whole experimental period, the average microorganism yield coefficients were computed to be low values of 0.148 and 0.139 g MLSS/g COD, respectively. These results indicate that the nonwoven fabric filter bioreactor employed in this research is effective for minimization of excess sludge production.

Change of Bending Properties of 2×4 Larch Lumber According to Span Length in the Four Point Bending Test (4점 휨 시험에서 지간 거리에 따른 2×4 낙엽송 제재목의 휨 성능 변화)

  • This study was conducted to confirm an effect of span length on bending properties of larch dimensional lumber in the four point bending test. The size of specimen in this study was 38 (width) ${\times}$ 89 (depth) ${\times}$ 3,600 (length) $mm^3$, and average air-dry density and moisture content of the specimens was $543.5kg/m^3$ and 10.5%, respectively. Visually graded No. 1 dimensional lumbers of 248 were divided by two groups to compare modulus of rupture (MOR) and modulus of elasticity (MOE). One group was tested in the four point bending test with span length of 1,650 mm, and other was tested with span length of 3,000 mm. While MOE was not different according to span length in 5% significance level, MOR was different in accordance with span lengths and was in inverse proportion to change of span length. Fifth percentiles of MOR in span length of 1,650 and 3,000 mm were 28.65 and 25.70 MPa, respectively. It was confirmed that the difference between MORs in each case increased as normalized rank increased. This is because of size effect in Weibull weakest link failure theory. Therefore, KS F 2150, in which there is only regulation about span to depth ratio of 15 or more, is needed to be revised to contain a method considering size effect for MOR. From the method, various results of bending test with different size of lumber could be used to determine design value of lumber.

Analysis of Geochemical Characteristics in the Intertidal Zone of Hyung-Do, Shi-Hwa Lake (시화호 형도 갯벌의 지화학적 특성 분석)

  • In order to understand the sedimentary environment of the southern intertidal zone of Shihwa Lake, west coast of Gyeonggi-do, 10 surface and 2 core sediment samples were analysed for grain size, water content, AVS (Acid Volatile Sulfide), TOC (Total Organic Carbon), concentrations of metals (Al, Fe, Mn, Cu, As, Pb, Zn, Ni, Cd, and Cr). The surface sediments are generally poorly sorted (0.60~2.31 ${\phi}$) sandy Silt, slightly gravelly muddy Sand, silty Sand, Sand with mean grain size of 2.95 to 6.00 ${\phi}$. The sediments contain Al (1.54%), Fe (1.75%), Cu (9.1ppm), As (1.1ppm), Pb (18.8 ppm), Ni (11.0 ppm), Cd (0.02 ppm), and Cr (30.1 ppm) on the average. Heavy metals are concentrated less than ERL (Effect Range-Low), verified by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). In the core sediments, they are also less than the ERL. Based on the uniform vertical distribution of excess radioactivity of $^{210}Pb$, the core sediments seen to have been actively mixed biologically or rapidly deposited after the construction of Shi-Hwa Seawall. The 'enrichment factor' of metals, normalized to Al, shows that the upper sediments of 35 cm in depth are more polluted. infect was significant in 2 core sediment samples in 35 cm below layer.

Ground Subsidence Estimation in a Coastal Reclaimed Land Using JERS-1 L-band SAR Interferometry (JERS-1 L-band SAR Interferometry 를 이용한 연안매립지 지반침하 관측)

  • We measured subsidences occurred in a coastal reclaimed land, Noksan industrial complex, from May 2, 1996 to February 21, 1998, using 5 interferograms of JERS-1 L-band SAR. SAR with a spatial resolution of about 16 m can detect the two-dimensional distribution of subsidence that is difficult to be estimated from in situ measurements. Accuracy of the subsidences estimated by 2-pass DInSAR was evaluated using the measurements of Magnetic Probe Extensometer (accuracy of :${\pm}$1 mm) installed at 42 stations. DInSAR measurements were well correlated with the field measurements showing an average correlation coefficient of 0.77. The correlation coefficient was further improved to be 0.87 (with RMSE of 1.44 cm) when only highly coherenced (>0.5) pixels were used. The slope of regression line was 1.04, very close to the unit value. In short, DInSAR measurements have a good linear relation with field measurements so that we can effectively detect a subsidence in the coastal reclaimed area especially using pixels of high coherence (>0.5). The maximum accumulated subsidence was about 60 cm in the study area, while the subsidence in the northern and south western areas were less than 20 cm. The resuts show that DInSAR is extremely useful for geotechnical applications as well as observation of natural deformation.

Hydrogeological Characteristics of the Wangjeon-ri PCWC area, Nonsan-city, with an Emphasis on Water Level Variations (논산시 왕전리 수막재배지역의 지하수위 변화)

  • We evaluated the results of pumping tests, the amount of groundwater used by Protected Cultivation with Water Curtain (PCWC), and monthly depth to water table (DTW) at the Wangjeon-ri area, Nonsan City, to elucidate the cause of a decrease in pumping rate during the winter PCWC season. The transmissivity and storage coefficient at eight sites where the major aquifer is alluvium, vary from 119.9 to $388.1m^2/d$ and $1.5{\times}10^{-4}$ to $5.5{\times}10^{-4}$, respectively. The pumping rate for PCWC during three months (Dec. to Feb.) averaged about $8,100m^3/d$ and the maximum water level in the area varied by about 10 m. Groundwater levels had fully recovered by August-five months after pumping for PCWC had ceased. These observations indicate that the pumping rate during the winter PCWC season was excessive compared with groundwater productivity in the area. Groundwater level in the central PCWC area varied from -3.0 to 4.38 m, exceeding the water level of the Nosung Stream for only three months (Aug. to Oct.). This result indicates that Nosung Stream recharges the area during the period from November to July. To solve the problem of reduced pumping rate during the winter PCWC season, it would be necessary to reduce the amount of groundwater used for PCWC or to develop an artificial recharge system using recycled groundwater.

Effects of Forest Restoration Methods and Stand Structure on Microclimate in Burned Forest Stand (산불 피해지 복원 방법이 임분 내 미세 기후에 미치는 영향)

  • The study was conducted to determine the effects of forest restoration methods and stand structure on solar radiation, air temperature, relative humidity, soil temperature, and soil water content, based on volume, in forest stand after forest fire. The changes of the micro-climate elements in naturally and artificially restored forest after forest fire were measured in Goseong and Samcheok, Gangwon province. Pinus spp. were commonly appeared in ridges, barren lands or planted areas of the study sites while the other areas were dominated by Quercus spp. In the early stage, trees in the naturally regenerated site grow better than the trees in artificially rehabilitated site. However, the growth ratio rapidly decreased by time passed in natural regeneration area. The environmental conditions (solar radiation, air temperature, relative humidity, soil temperature and soil water content) were significantly different by the regions and the methods (p<.05). However, the coefficients of variations of the environmental conditions were not significantly different at 95% confidence level. As the coverage and tree height in crown layer increased, the relative humidity and soil water content were increased while the temperature and solar radiation were decreased. Especially, the relative humidity, solar radiation, and soil water content were clearly affected by the tree height and coverage ratio ($R^2$ means from 0.628 to 0.924). Even though the data should have collected at least more than 5 years in meteorological analysis, the two year results show some clear relationship between forest structure and microclimate elements.

T800/AD6005계 복합재의 습기투과에 관한 연구

  • 복합재는 강도가 높고 가볍기 때문에 최근 로켓의 연소관으로 널리 사용되고 있다. 그런데 이 복합재 로켓 연소관은 제조 후 대기 환경에 장기적으로 노출되어 있기 때문에 금속 연소관과는 달리 온도 또는 습도 등의 환경에 대한 영향을 고려해야 한다. 더구나 연소관은 내부에 추진제가 충전되어 있으므로 추진제의 기계적 특성이 습도에 민감함을 생각할 때 강도뿐만 아니라 습기의 투과도 또한 매우 중요한 고려 요소가 된다. 그러나 온/습도 변화에 따른 복합재 자체의 재료 특성 변화에 대한 연구는 많이 보고되었으나 습기의 투과 정도에 관한 연구는 자료가 미흡한 실정이다. 한편, 포화 함수율은 복합재에 따라서 차이가 있으나 T300/5208의 경우 문헌을 참조하면 20-$50^{\circ}C$에서 복합재 무게의 약 1.5% 정도이며 포화에 걸리는 시간은 약 100일 정도로 나타나 있다.본 연구에서는 수분이 복합재를 통하여 투과되는 정도를 고찰하기 위하여 $20^{\circ}C$,95%RH의 온/습도를 유지하는 수조를 제작하였고, 이 수조내에 보관한 복합재 연소관의 실린더 벽면으로 투과되는 습기를 측정하기 위하여 연소관 내에 습도 센서를 투입하여 상대습도를 직접 측정하였다. 복합재 연소관이 로켓에 사용될 때는 연소관 외부에 페인트로 피막 처리하고 연소관 내부에도 추진제와의 사이에 라이너가 접착되어 있어서 수분 침투 및 온도 등의 외부 환경조건에 견디기에 더 양호한 조건이나 본 연구에서는 복합재 자체의 특성을 고찰하기 위하여 섬유를 에폭시에 함침시켜 winding한 상태 그대로의 복합재 연소관 시료를 사용하였다. 습기의 투과는 내부에 라이너/인슐레이션이 피복되거나 또는 추진제가 충전된 경우 많은 감소효과를 보였다. 순수 복합재 연소관의 경우 수조에 넣고 평형에 도달한 후로부터 약 8개월의 습기 투과 상태를 볼대 벽면을 통하여 들어가는 water vapor flux는 $20^{\circ}C$,95%RH 에서 평균적으로 9.3163$\times$$10^{-8}$g/$m^2$sec로 나타났다. 이때 습기가 투과되는 연소관이 국지점을 평판으로 가정하고 Fick's law를 이용하여 구한 습기에 대한 복합재의 확산계수는 D=2.5$\times$$10^{-6}$$mm^2$sec였으며, 이는 다른 graphite/epixy 복합재의 확산계수와 유사한 값을 나타내고 있다. 또한 추진제가 충전된 연소관을 절단하여 밀폐한 후 95%RH 습도 조건에 보관함으로써 연소관 내부의 추진제 기계적 특성에 미치는 침투된 습기의 영향도 함께 고찰하였다. 추진제에 따라 차이는 있겠으나 추진제가 충전된 연소관은 순수 복합재 연소관에 비해 습기의 투과 정도가 작으며, 본 연소관에 충전된 RDX/AP계 추진제의 경우 추진제의 습기투과에 의한 추진제 물성 변화는 미미한 것으로 나타났다.
