Performance Test of Pod-type Waterjet Propulsion System (Pod형 물분사 추진장치 성능시험 연구)

  • This paper describes the experimental method of a pod-type waterjet propulsion system in a towing tank and shows the experimental analysis and test results of a designed waterjet propulsion system to be used for a hybrid high speed craft. The cruising performance of this craft is estimated from the results of the hull resistance test and waterjet test under the assumption that the interaction between the hull and the inlet pod is very small. A pod-type waterjet system with an axial pump was designed and a stand-alone waterjet experimental system was developed. Useful data such as the pump performance, the jet efficiency, the losses of inlet duct and nozzle were obtained. Test results show a good agreement with the design requirement.

Numerical Study of Channel Area Effects on the Performance Characteristics of Regenerative Type Fuel Pump (재생형 연료펌프의 채널 면적 변화가 성능 특성에 미치는 영향에 대한 수치해석적 연구)

  • The effects of channel area on the performance of regenerative type fuel pump were numerically studied by commercial CFD code (ANSYS CFX-10). To examine the effects of channel area, the shapes of the side channel and blade were simplified. The channel area affected the flow characteristics of the internal recirculation flow between the side channel and the blade groove and also made a difference in the overall performance. These loss mechanism with circulation flow were adopted as a loss coefficient in the performance prediction program. The loss coefficient was newly derived from the results of calculations with different channel area, and compared with the experimental results in the reference paper and used to modify the performance prediction program. The circulation flow characteristics with different channel area, which is related with loss mechanism, were also discussed with the results of 3-dimensional flow calculations.

A Numerical Study on the Performance Characteristics of a Partial Admission Axial Supersonic Turbine with Swept Rotor Blades (로터 블레이드 스윕을 적용한 부분흡입형 축류 초음속 터빈의 성능특성에 대한 수치적 연구)

  • In this study, we performed three-dimensional CFD analysis to investigate the effect of the rotor blade sweep of a partial admission supersonic turbine on the stage performance and the flow field. The computations are conducted for three different sweep cases, No sweep(NSW), Backward sweep(BSW), and Forward sweep(FSW), using flow analysis program, FLUENT 6.3 Parallel. The results of the BSW model show reduced mass flow rates of tip leakage and increased total-to-static efficiency. The strength of leading edge bow shock was decreased a little with BSW model. And the BSW model also shows a good performance around the hub region compared to other models.

  • 최근 들어, 송 배수 시스템의 펌프운영을 최적화하여 운영비용을 절감하기 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 펌프운영을 모의하기 위해서는 수 일간의 시간모의가 필수적이며, 최적화 알고리즘 등과의 연계를 통한 시뮬레이션이 필요한 경우가 많다. 하지만, 대규모 네트워크의 경우 관로 및 절점의 수가 수천, 혹은 수 만개에 달해 수리해석 및 최적화에 소요되는 시간이 길어지는 문제가 발생한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 효율적인 수리해석을 위해 상수관망 네트워크를 골격화(skeletonization)하는 방법을 제안한다. 상수관망시스템의 골격화는 본래의 상수관망 수리 거동을 변화시키지 않는 범위에서 관로와 절점의 삭제, 통합을 통해 복잡한 상수관망을 단순화하는 과정이다. 이러한 골격화 방법은 단순골격화 방법과 등가길이관 방법(Equivalent Length Pipe Method)으로 구분할 수 있다. 단순 골격화 방법은 해당 상수관망 수리해석에 큰 영향을 미치지 않는 소구경관을 삭제하거나, 특정 구역의 여러 수요절점을 하나의 수요절점으로 통합하는 방법이다. 등가길이관 방법은 관경과 연장이 상이한 복수의 관에 동일한 유량이 흐르는 경우, 관경, 연장, 조도계수 등을 조절하여 동일한 수두 손실이 발생하는 하나의 관으로 통합하는 방법이다. 국내에 실제 운영되고 있는 지방상수도를 대상으로 골격화를 진행하였으며, 수리해석 프로그램은 미국 환경청에서 개발한 EPANET을 사용하였다. 본 연구에서 개발한 골격화 기법을 통해 대규모 상수관망의 해석에 소요되는 시간을 단축할 수 있으며, 실제 상수관망의 운영에 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다.

Development of 1MW Organic Rankine Cycle System (1 MW급 유기랭킨 사이클 시스템 개발)

  • To enhance thermal efficiency of thermal facility through recovery of low and medium temperature waste heat, 1 MW organic Rankine cycle system was designed and developed. The exhaust gases of 175$^{\circ}C$ at two 100 MW power plants in pohang steel works were selected as the representative of low and medium temperature waste heat in industrial process for the heat source of the organic Rankine cycle system. HCFC-123, a kind of harmless refrigerant, was chosen as the working fluid for Rankine cycle. The organic Rankine cycle system with selected exhaust gases and working fluid was designed and constructed. From the operation, it was confirmed that the organic Rankine cycle system is available for low and medium temperature waste heat recovery in industrial process. The optimum operating manuals, such as heat-up of hot water, turbine start-up, and the process of electric power generation, were derived. However, electric power generated was not 1 MW as designed but only 670 kW. It is due to deficiency of pump capacity for supply of HCFC-123. So it is necessary to increase the pump capacity or to decrease the pressure loss in pipe for more improved HCFC-123 supply.

A Study on the Stress Analysis of Oil Hydraulic Piston Pump with a Swash Plate Type (사판식 유압 피스톤 펌프의 응력해석에 관한 연구)

  • In an oil hydraulic piston pump, the cylinder block and valve plate in high speed relative sliding motion have the characteristics which should be extremely controlled for the optimization of leakage and friction losses, and pressure-resistance design of them is very important for high pressure performance. But the studies on the stress analysis of those parts have not been performed briskly. Therefore, in this paper, the stress and displacement distributions of the cylinder block and valve plate in the oil hydraulic piston pump with a swash plate type are discussed through the static stress analysis using CATIA V5. The stress and displacement of the cylinder block are more influenced by the axial pressure than by the radial pressure, and are larger by approximately 66% and 30%, respectively. The results show that a review of the material and shape of the valve plate is required.

An Experimental Study on the Concrete Pumping Technology of High Performance Concrete for the High-Rise Building Construction (초고층 구조물 시공을 위한 고성능 콘크리트의 펌프압송 기술에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, high performance concrete of C60 and C80 were applied to a super tall building and those had satisfactory properties of fresh and hardened concrete to the requirements even changes according to time. Especially the evaluation and analysis of the relation of the rheological properties and puMPability of high performance concrete, C60-14 which was applied to the height of from 500m to 575m in the building, was carried out bymeasuring pumping pressure and pumping speed, testing concrete properties at before and after pumping. As results, themax. pumping pressure showed increase of 5% at every 25m higher pumping and the average pumping speed showed the above $25m^3$ per hour whichmeans proper productivity. Additionally it was verified that the loss of slump flow after pumping was increased according to plastic viscosity values and the increment of temperature through concrete pumping.

Comparative Study of Tip Clearance Loss in Impulse and Reaction Turbine Cascades (충동터빈과 반동터빈 캐스케이드에서의 팁 간극 손실에 대한 비교 연구)

  • Korea Aeronautics Research Institute (KARI) is developing a turbo pump that has 1-stage impulse turbine and relatively high tip clearance for safety. The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of reaction on tip clearance loss in axial turbines. Both cascades were tested in a subsonic wind tunnel. In each cascade, total pressure was measured for tip clearance ranging from 1% to 20% of chord. In results, increasing tip clearance, total pressure loss in reaction turbines is continually increased but impulse turbines keep almost same level of mass averaged total pressure loss. When tip clearance becomes more than 10% of chord, mass-averaged total pressure loss in impulse turbines is less than in reaction. This means that when tip clearance is more than 10% of chord, impulse turbines have better efficiency than reaction turbines.

A study on the effects of Friction loss of CPVC pipe according to Roughness coefficient in a sprinkler system (스프링클러 시스템에서 조도계수에 따른 CPVC 배관 마찰손실 영향의 연구)

  • The pipe material is selected according to the physical and chemical properties of the fluid flowing within it. Because the fluid used in fire extinguish systems is water, the various foreign substances dissolved in it cause scale to form on the pipe wall and accelerate the corrosion and aging of the pipe itself. This results in an increase in the friction loss and eventually degrades the efficiency of the pump. The use of CPVC (Chlorinated Poly-Vinyl Chloride) pipes was confirmed to reduce the friction loss compared to conventional steel pipes in the design and construction stages. The friction loss was found to be 76.64MPa with a C-value of 120 for the steel pipe and 50.72 MPa with a C-value of 150 for the CPVC pipe in an actual apartment construction environment. It was confirmed that the friction loss was improved by about 34% when using the CPVC pipe. When the steel and CPVC pipes were employed in the construction, the construction costs were 1,585,158 and 931,842 won, respectively. Therefore, it was shown that the construction cost was reduced by about 41%. We investigated the safety of the fire extinguishing system and the improvement in the economic performance due to the reduction in the total installed capacity by studying practical applications in the field.

An Analysis of Attenuation Effect of Pressure Head Using an Air Chamber (공기실을 사용한 압력수두의 완화효과에 대한 분석)

  • An air chamber is designed to keep the pressure from exceeding a predetermined value, or to prevent low pressures and column separation. Therefore, it can be used to protect against rapid transients in a pipe system following abrupt pump stoppage. In this research, an air chamber was applied to a hypothetical pipe system to analyze attenuation effect of pressure head for different air volumes, locations, chamber areas, coefficients of orifice loss and polytropic exponents. With an increase of air volume, the maximum pressure head at pump site is decreased and the minimum pressure head is increased. For different locations and areas of the chamber, the attenuation effects do not show much difference. Also, as the orifice loss coefficient increases, the maximum pressure head is decreased. For different polytropic exponents, isothermal process shows lower maximum pressure head than that of the adiabatic process.
