  • In general, when an existing pier is enlarged and reinforced using a small diameter pile, bonded anchor with deformed reinforcing bars is used to maintain the integrity of the joint. However, in the case of bonded anchors, the performance depends largely on the type of joint material. Nevertheless, unlike mechanical anchors, there is no standard method for designing appropriate design methods and proper performance evaluation. Therefore, in this study, the performance of the anchoring anchor was evaluated by performing a model experiment using the reinforcing bars and anchor reinforcing bars. Experimental results show that the structural performance of the unbonded specimen is the best, and the failure mode is the punching shear failure. The deflection of the end of the member is smaller than that of the unconnected member, The deflection of the connected member is larger than the deflection of the small connected member. As the load increases, the possibility of slippage of the anchor steel or fold connection rebar is high.

  • Recently, there have been increased much concerns about repair and rehabilitation works for aged concrete structures. It is in particular known that due to repeated overburden vehicles, there are significantly increasing number of aged concrete bridge slabs, which are strongly needed to construct and rehabilitate by innovative construction method. The objective of this research is to develop the new construction method of concrete slab in bridge superstructure, which can contribute to minimize a traffic congestion during repair and rehabilitation works of aged concrete slab, and can sufficiently assure the quality through the minimization of in-situ works at the site. I-beams with punch holes, which are substituted instead of main reinforcing steels in concrete slabs, can be manufactured in accordance with the specification in the factory, and be preassembled into the panel. After erecting the preassembled panels in the site, concrete will be poured into the slab panel. This research is to investigate mechanical properties of I-beam with punch holes itself, and then to investigate structural properties of assembled I-beam panels through static test, of which result can be utilized for the development of the new constructional method for concrete slab in bridge superstructure.

  • Steel bars have been widely used as the primary reinforcement for Precast Segmental Concrete Lining for TBM Tunnels. Previously, studies have been carried out to gauge the potential for steel fiber reinforcement to replace the use of steel bar reinforcements in the segmental lining to reduce the amount of the steel bar reinforcement. Steel fiber reinforcements have been investigated and widely applied to SFRC TBM linings to improve the constructability of SFRC TBM linings worldwide. However, the steel fiber reinforcement often caused punctures to the water membranes inside tunnel lining and had long-term durability deterioration issues caused by steel corrosion, as well as cosmetic problems. Therefore, this paper sought to gauge the potential of synthetic fiber reinforcements, which have proven to be very attractive substitutes for steel fiber reinforcements. This study analyzed the performance of both steel and synthetic fiber reinforcements in segmental linings and evaluated the applicability of the fiber reinforcements to the TBM Precast Concrete Segmental Linings of TBM tunnels. As a conclusion, this study demonstrates that the potential use of steel and synthetic fibers in various combination, can substitute the rebar reinforcement in the concrete mix for segmental concrete linings.
