Because of the importance of steel material saving and rational ship structural design due to the rapid increase in steel prices, a ship structural design system was developed for plate members reinforced by doubler plates subjected to biaxial in-plane compressive loads. This paper mainly emphasizes the design system improvement and upgrade according to the change in the in-plane loading condition of the doubler plate from the single load discussed in a previous paper to the biaxial in-plane compressive load discussed in this paper. A direct design process by a structural designer was added to this developed optimized system to increase the design efficiency and provide a way of directly inserting a designer's decisions into the design system process. As the second stage of preliminary steps of doubler design system development, design formulas subjected to these biaxial loads used in the doubler plate design system were suggested. Based on the introduction of influence coefficients $K_t_c$, $K_t_d$, $K_b_d$ and $K_a_d$ based on the variations in the doubler length, breadth, doubler thickness, and average corrosion thickness of the main plate reinforced by the doubler plate, respectively, the design formulas for the equivalent plate thickness of the main plate reinforced by the doubler plate were also developed, and a hybrid design system using these formulas was suggested for the doubler plate of a ship structure subjected to a biaxial in-plane compressive load. Using this developed design system for a main plate reinforced by a doubler plate was expected to result in a more rational reinforced doubler plate design considering the efficient reinforcement of ship plate members subjected to these biaxial loads. Additionally, a more detail structural analysis through local strength evaluations will be performed to verify the efficiency of the optimum structural design for a plate member reinforced by a doubler plate.

The aim of the present study is to derive an empirical formula relating the absorbed energy and the cutting length for longitudinally stiffened steel palates which are cut by a wedge, idealizing the ship bottom stiffened platings in groundings. This study is based on the test results and the investigations of some parameters affecting the cutting response, described in Part I. By dimensionless ana1ysis of the test results obtained in a quasi-static loading condition, the energy absorbed while a longitudinally stiffened plate is cut by a wedge is expressed as functions of the cutting length, the yield stress, the equivalent plate thickness and the wedge angle. Also, the dynamic effects are incorporated into the static formula such that the proposed formula can be applied to the impact loading situations. The validity of the proposed formula is checked by comparing with the results obtained by the other existing formulas or by the drop-hammer tests.

This study was carried out for understanding the characteristics of the spray around high speed vessels. Prismatic planing hull made of an acrylate board was used to the tests. The distribution of local spray velocity were estimated from the analysis of the spray visualization. A new test system for measuring the spray thickness is proposed, and was used to estimate the local spray thickness in the model. The pressure distributions on the bottom of the hull are measured and integrated to estimate the pressure drag of the model in the towing tests. Finally. the spray drag/lift component is separated from the total drag/lift on the prismatic hull. These test results show that the spray drag component on high speed vessels is relatively large and important in total drag.

The model ice is created at KRISO (Korea Research Institute for Ships and Ocean Engineering) ice basin where model ship is tested to obtain the necessary data in order to design the ice breaking vessels and ocean structures operating in the northern pole sea area. Through the model ship test, ice breaking, clearing, ice-ship and ice-propeller interaction behavior can be obtained. Since mechanical properties of ice plate are required for the model test, some tests are performed to obtain the properties in this paper. First, ultrasonic devide is used to measure the thickness of the model ice plate and the results show the possibility of using ultrasonic method, yet more sophisticated device or special sensors are required to measure the ice thickness completely. And the defection of ice plate is measured using LVDT to compute the characteristic length of ice plate on the fluid, which is used to get the effective Young's modulus of model ice.
In this Paper, the mechanical behavior of two reかangular plates spot-welded under free vibration is investigated in detail. The focus of the analysis is to evaluate the effect of thickness of reinforced plates with equivalent thickness. The results of this the investigation are compared with detailed finite element analysis end experiments of the plates spot-welded for various parameters, such as aspect ratio, arm ratio, and distance ratio of spot-welding Points. The conclusion obtained are as followed. 1. The effect thickness due to spot-weld is very large, such as 55% in comparison with area ratio of spot-welding joint is just 4.52%. 2 The effect of thickness with respect to the distance ratio is maximized when the distance ratio is 0.4.
The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute acquired the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory phantom for calibration of germanium detectors used for in vivo measurement of radionuclides deposited in human lungs. The manufacturer inscribed concentric circles as a phoswich detector positioning guides on the phantom's torso plate and its overlay plates, and provided the effective thickness of the chest wall for each plate measured at locations over the circles. However, since the germanium detectors are of different sizes, the areas considered for phoswich detectors were no. longer applicable for the locations of the germanium detectors on the phantom. Therefore, we re-evaluated the effective thickness of the phantom to determine if the manufacturer' s data are valid for germanium detectors in use for in vivo lung counting or if new values must be implemented. Differences no more than 3% in effective thickness were found between the germanium detector regions to be used at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and the phoswich detector regions prescribed by the manufacturer.

This study was performed to propose the minimum thickness of RC slab that satisfies constructibility, fatigue safety, and serviceability requirements such as deflection control. Three different minimum thicknesses are calculated using concrete shear and rebar fatigue formulas, and deflection control, respectively, and checked by constructiblity. The maximum of these three minimum thicknesses is proposed as the minimum thickness of RC slab, which shows that the minimum thickness requirement of RC slab from Korean Bridge Design Code can be thinner than now.
The problem of tension control in metal-strip processing line is discussed. A new mathematical dynamic model which relates tension change, motor-speed change and roll-gap change is developed. Through the computer simulation of this model, parameter sensitivity, the tension transfer phenominon, and static and dynamic characteristics of strip tension were studied. Guidelines are developed to help one selecting locations of the master-speed drive in multi-drive speed control for tension adjustment and reducing the effect of interaction between tension and roll gap control.
