  • To predict vibrational energy density of simple structural-acoustic coupled systems in medium-to-high frequency ranges, Power Flow Finite Element Method(PFFEM) is used, and PFFEM sofiware, PFADS has been developed for the vibration predictions and analysis of coupled system structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges. However, it needs to consider vibro-acoustic coupled analysis to get more accurate results. Prior to implement vibro-acoustic coupled analysis functions in PFADS, research on vibro-acoustic coupled analysis using PFFEH is performed for simple models. These predictions include the indirect transmission path associated, and also the direct transmission path, and the formulation is extended to structural system model by using appropriate modifications to structural-acoustic and acoustic-acoustic joint matrices. Concerning the waves in plate and acoustic, it is possible to calculate the structural-acoustic full matrix of a model using PFFEM, and the formulations developed are implemented for two rooms surrounded by plates.

  • The power flow analysis (PFA) can be effectively used to predict structural vibration in medium-to-high frequency ranges. In this paper, vibration experiments have been performed to observe the analytical characteristics of the power flow analysis of the vibration of various coupled plates. Those plates include two plates coupled with angles of $90^{\circ}$\;and\;30^{\circ}$, respectively. In the experiment, the loss factor and the input mobility at a source point on each coupled plate have been measured. The data for the loss factors have been used as the input data to predict the vibration of the coupled plates with PFA. The frequency response functions have been measured over the surface of the coupled plates. The comparison between the experimental results and the predicted PFA results for the frequency response functions has been performed.

  • Geometrical design variables are numerically investigated to improve aerodynamic performance of the supersonic impulse turbine of a turbopump in a liquid rocket engine. Aerodynamic redesign was performed for maximization of the blade power. Four design variables considered are blade angle, blade thickness and radii of upper and lower arc blade with appropriate constraints. A fast Navier-Stokes solver was developed and Chien's k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence modelling was used for turbulence closure. In initial shape, a flow separation was found in the middle of blade chord. However, it disappeared in final shape via its geometrical design variable change. About 3.2 percent of blade power was increased from this research.

  • Structural intensity of plates experiencing bending vibration is analytically evaluated using the modal analysis based on assumed mode method. To evaluate the convergence of structural intensity according to the number of superposition modes, the power obtained by structural intensity integration over the closed curve containing the excitation source is compared with the power injected into plates. The erect of power reduction due to the material internal loss is evaluated using the intensity around a localized damping point, In addition, the dominant component among internal forces in the power transfer by the bending vibration of plates and the change of power flow due to stiffener are also investigated.

  • The power flow analysis (PFA) has been performed to analyze the vibration of coupled plates excited by a point force in an arbitrary direction. The point force generates the out-of-plane vibration associated wish flexural waves and the in-plane vibration associated with longitudinal and shear waves. The energy governing equation for each type of waves was introduced and solved to Predict the vibrational energy density and intensity generated by the out-of-plane and in-plane components of the point force in an arbitrary direction. The wave transmission approach was used to consider the mode conversion at the joint of the coupled plates. Numerical results for vibrational energy density and intensity on the coupled plates were presented. Comparison of the results by PFA with exact results showed that PFA can be an effective tool to predict the spatial variation of the vibrational energy and intensity on the coupled plates at high frequencies.

  • In this paper, the automatic system generation algorithm based on the element combination algorithm discussed in the first part of this paper for designing an arbitrary type of the automatic transmissions is proposed. The powertrain design software using these algorithms is developed. This automotive powertrain design software with user-friendly graphic user interface has two main modules. The first module, the automatic power flow generation module, is already discussed in the previous paper. The second module dealing with the automatic system generation algorithm is discussed in this paper. The power-flow simulation software fur the arbitrary type of powertrain is then developed. The simulation and experimental results of the vehicle equipped with two planetary gear type automatic transmission are compared to validate the proposed algorithms and developed software. The simulation results demonstrate the good agreement with the experimental results.

  • The attenuation of waves transmitted through non-conservative joints that are shown in many practical structures, is affected by the impedance and the orientation of the joint. In this paper, the joints between plate structures are assumed to be modeled as linear spring-dashpot systems and the transmission and reflection of vibration energy in the medium to high frequency ranges are investigated. • In this paper, the power flow analysis(PFA) method is applied to the prediction of the vibrational energy density and intensity of coupled co-planar plates. To cover the energy transmission and reflection at the joint of the plates, the wave transmission approach is introduced with the assumption that all the incident waves are normal to the joint. By changing the frequency ranges and internal loss factors, we have obtained the PFA results, and compared them with the analytical exact solutions.
