  • The study attempted to analyze the experiences concerning professional identities of social workers working in hospice palliative care(HPC) multidisciplinary team by adopting ground theory method. The data were drawn from in-depth interviews with 11 social workers working in HPC teams for more than a year. As a result of the study, 166 concepts, 21 themes and 10 categories were presented. The core theme was identified as "growing up as a professional recognized by clients and other team members". The characteristics of social work and those of hospital setting systematic barriers and problems of the governmental support program worked as external conditions. The conflicts and confusions in social workers' professional identities were brought about as results of the conditions while successful team and the characteristics of individual setting promoted to get over the problems. The social workers experienced professional rewards and personal growth from hospice practices by utilizing diverse strategies. It was proposed that social workers should make efforts to be recognized as an essential profession in HPC multidisciplinary teams together with resolving the institutional problems such as regulations on qualifications of HPC social worker, professional education and governmental supports to improve work conditions.

  • A research on differential effects of task and relationship conflicts claims positive effects of task conflict on innovation performance and negative effects of relation conflict on innovation performance. Yet, given the intimate interconnectedness of task conflict and relation conflict, task conflict, which has a beneficial impact on innovation performance, may have adverse effects on innovation performance as it goes through the process of being transferred to relation conflict. That necessitates the need for a way of management that can undermine the process of transference of task conflict to relation conflict, and team identification, which is a social identity of an individual and also a sort of positive, affective or cognitive bonds of such individual toward the team, can be an effective way of managing conflict. The research, which was conducted based on materials collected from 213 employees, confirms that such theory holds true for the real-life business environment. Based on the findings, this study suggested implications and directions for future research.

  • Learning at the elbow of scientist is a well-known educational approach to improve students' understanding of science and scientific practice. This study, in the perspective of legitimate peripheral participation in a community of practice, explores how students' scientific practice and perception could be shifted through R&E program with the development of participation. Data from participant observation for 18 months and in-depth interviews were analyzed based on constant comparative method to extract common characteristics of students' participation and major shifts in their scientific practices and perceptions. Students' development of participation was categorized into three stages: legitimate, peripheral, and full participation. In the stage of peripheral participation, students perceived themselves as mere students and showed passive engagement. They just followed the directions of researchers and didn't know what they should be doing. But through continuous participation, students showed enhanced engagement like voluntary article reading, role assignments, and establishing norms in a community of practice with the reference of scientists'. In this stage of transitional participation, students also showed a deepened perception on everyday life of scientist and the community of scientist. And finally in the stage of full participation, students showed responsibility and ownership on research and continuous efforts to refine their research. They recognized themselves as beginning scientists. With these findings, this paper highlighted the dynamic processes of students' development of scientific practices and identity through R&E participation. It also suggests implications for research programs for education, especially for students who have already articulated a science-related career but still have only foggy notions about science.

  • This study expanded the superiority of random leader selection procedure on group decision-making task to actual group performance task, and examined the interaction effects of leader selection procedure(LSP) and collective efficacy(CE) on group performance. 2(LSP: formal/random)×2(CE: low/high) between subject design was used. The result revealed the significant main effect of LSP, which showed that groups with random leader performed better than those with formally selected leader. Further, significant interaction effect of LSP and CE revealed that when group's CE was high, group with random leader performed better than group with formally selected leader, and the difference between two groups was not significant when group's CE was low. These results suggested that LSP should not impair shared social identity of the group in order to maintain the positive effect of CE on group performance. The necessity for expanding these results to work team was discussed.

  • To reduce labor market discrimination, there are lively discussions about the role of extant labor regime based on labor unions. It includes both the critical perspective on extant labor movement and the necessity of new actors for resolving discriminations within labor market. Among new actors, the present study focuses on contingent labor centers. Specifically, we have investigated on the development and identity of contingent labor centers as coalition of local government-labor organization. The core content of this study is to reconstruct the activities and strategies of contingent labor centers throughout the longitudinal approach. From many evidences, we can confirm that contingent labor centers have evolved via three phases such as differentiation, de- politicizing, and networks. This finding also provides insights about inside relationships between contingent labor centers and outside tensions between contingent labor center and extant labor organizations. We finally discuss on the theoretical implications of contingent labor center as new actor for contingent worker movement.

  • Emergence of new media platform had changed relationship between the broadcaster and the viewer, which used to form 'performer-audience' structure. This research has focused on the transition of 'streamer-viewer' role in single-media broadcasting, such as Youtube or Twitch, and identify how they progress group storytelling as a team. Walter Benjam and Leslie Marmon Silko's notion of 'story and storyteller' and Erving Goffman's 'social role theory' was used to define participants' role in new media broadcasting. channel, on Youtube, was selected and analyzed as example case. The domain of 'front stage' was broadened in recorded contents comparing to live streaming. The audience of live streaming is included to the front stage during the expansion. The role of streamer, game participant, and live stream contents viewer is also adjusted during the change, which leads to group-creation of the contents. Streamer plays a role of main-storyteller and suggest identity of the community. Game participants work as sub-storyteller, filling in the blank space in game storytelling and making it sophisticated. They also perform based on community's identity, which streamer has built in advance. Lastly, live steam viewers are intermittent sub-storyteller, which seldom add up the narrative. Though, their main role is to preserve identity of game broadcasting community by reacting according to community's identity. As a result, the game broadcasting narrative is developed by combining and adding up pieces of story made in different level and role of participants. The research redefine the role of viewer and storytelling method in new media, especially in single-person broadcasting. Considering the rapid shift in recent media and contents, a new approach to the streamer-veiwer role and group storytelling of this research can be one of the new method to analyze contents produced in new media, such as Youtube.
