  • The characteristics of variability of temperature and precipitation in Jeju were investigated using data observed in Jeju station for from 1924 to 2004. Annual mean temperature change for the last 81 years is $0.02^{\circ}C$ increase per year. After 1980, the increase is $0.05^{\circ}C$ per year, larger than the former. The increase of the minimum temperature is larger than that of the maximum temperature in Jeju and has resulted in the increase of mean temperature. The frequency of climate extreme occurrence of temperature and rainfall was also investigated. The temporal variation of frequency of the extremely higher temperature has increased in the 1980's with global warming. The appearance of the extremely lower minimum temperature has decreased during the summers and winters. The facts that the frequencies of rainy days has decreased and heavy rainfall days of more than 80 mm per day in precipitation has increased indicate the increase of rainfall intensity.

  • Genetic diversity and genetic differentiation of thirteen Pinus densiflora populations in South Korea were estimated using nine ESTP (Expressed Sequence Tag Polymorphism) markers. The numbers of allele and the effective allele were 2.2 and 1.8, respectively. The percentage of polymorphic loci (P) was 98.8%. The observed and the expected heterozygosity were 0.391 and 0.402, respectively, and the eleven populations except for Ahngang and Gangneung population were under Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium state. The level of genetic differentiation (Wright’s FST = 0.057) was higher than those of isozyme or nSSR markers. We could not find out any relationship between the genetic distance and geographic distribution among populations from cluster analysis. Also, the genetic differentiation between populations was not correlated with the geographic distance (r = 0.017 and P = 0.344 from Mantel test). From the result of FST-outlier analysis to identify a locus under selection, six loci were detected at confidence interval of 99% by the frequentist’s method. However, only three loci (sams2+AluⅠ, sams2+RsaⅠ, PtNCS_p14A9+HaeⅢ) were presumed as outliers by Bayesian method. The sams2+AluⅠ and sams2+RsaⅠlocus were originated from the sams2 gene and seemed to be the loci under balancing selection.

  • The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of diagnostic range for BMD measurement tools(DEXA, QUS, and RA) to health examination in transitional ages. In standard T-score -2.5 of DEXA, cutoff value by RA is -1.675(sensitivity: 70.0%, specificity: 63.7%) and cutoff value by QUS is -1.733(sensitivity: 70.4, specificity: 59.5%), also T-score -3.0 of DEXA, cutoff value by RA is -2.325(sensitivity: 70.0%, specificity: 42.9%) and cutoff value by QUS is -2.323(sensitivity: 70.4, specificity: 56.8%). There was, however, no significant difference in standard DEXA(lumbar spine and femur) between RA and QUS by repeat measurement(precision), and correlation were without effect. ROC analysis showed that all methods are qualified for BMD measurement tools to health examination in transitional ages; however, the different sensitivities and specificities of the methods, as well as age and gender, calibration parameters for diagnostic tests have to be considered.

  • The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve is expressed as both sensitivity and specificity; in addition, some optimal thresholds using the ROC curve are also represented with both sensitivity and specificity. In addition to the sensitivity and specificity, the expected usefulness function is considered as disease prevalence and usefulness. In particular, partial the area under the ROC curve (AUC) on a certain range should be compared when the AUCs of the crossing ROC curves have similar values. In this study, partial AUCs representing high sensitivity and specificity are proposed by using sensitivity and specificity lines, respectively. Assume various distribution functions with ROC curves that are crossing and AUCs that have the same value. We propose a method to improve the discriminant power of the classification models while comparing the partial AUCs obtained using sensitivity and specificity lines.

  • It is common to check the validity of an assumed model with the heavy use of diagnostics tools when conducting data analysis with regression techniques; however, outliers and influential data points often distort the regression output in undesired manner. Jang and Anderson-Cook (2013) proposed a graphical method called a firework plot for exploratory analysis that could visualize the trace of the impact of possible outlying and/or influential data points on individual regression coefficients and the overall residual sum of squares(SSE) measure. They developed 3-D plot as well as pair-wise plot for the appropriate measures of interest. In this paper, the approach was extended further to tell the strength of their approach; in addition, a more meaningful interpretation was possible by adding a measure not mentioned in their paper. This approach was applied to the mixture experiment because we felt that a detailed analysis of statistical measure sensitivity is required in a small experiment.

  • Measurement of the background radio noise is very important process being used in survey of radio noise environment, calculating the threshold level for the frequency occupancy measurement and so forth. First step of background radio noise measurement is to select the sample sub-band which is mostly dominated by the background white Gaussian noise (WGN) within the target band. The second step is to carry out the main measurement of radio noise on this selected sample sub-band for the representative value of the noise power. In this paper, a method for selection of sample sub-band for the effective background radio noise measurement using SVD is proposed under the assumption that background radio noise is WGN. The performance of the proposed method is compared with that of the APD method which is widely used for the same purpose. Simulation results are shown to demonstrate the high performance of the proposed method in comparison with the existing APD method.

  • We proposed a blind watermarking scheme using singular vectors based on Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Redundant Discrete Wavelet Transform (RDWT) combined with Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) for copyright protection application. We replaced the 1st left and right singular vectors decomposed from cover image with the corresponding ones from watermark image to overcome the false-positive problem in current watermark systems using SVD. The proposed scheme realized the watermarking system without a false positive problem, and shows high fidelity and robustness.

  • Recentlly neural network approach for solving a singular perturbed integro-differential boundary value problem have been researched. Especially the model of the feed-forward neural network to be trained by the back propagation algorithm with various learning algorithms were theoretically substantiated, and neural network models such as deep learning, transfer learning, federated learning are very rapidly evolving. The purpose of this paper is to study the approaching method for developing a neural network model with high accuracy and speed for solving singular perturbed problem along with asymptotic methods. In this paper, we propose a method that the simulation for the difference between result value of singular perturbed problem and unperturbed problem by using neural network approach equation. Also, we showed the efficiency of the neural network approach. As a result, the contribution of this paper is to show the possibility of simple neural network approach for singular perturbed problem solution efficiently.

  • Dynamic positron emission tomography(dPET) is widely used medical imaging modality that can provide both physiological and functional neuro-image for diagnosing various brain disease. However, dPET images have low spatial-resolution and high noise level during spatio-temporal analysis (three-dimensional spatial information + one-dimensional time information), there by limiting clinical utilization. In order to overcome these issues for the spatio-temporal analysis, a novel computational technique was introduced in this paper. The computational technique based on singular value decomposition classifies multiple independent components. Signal components can be distinguished from the classified independent components. The results show that signal to noise ratio was improved up to 30% compared with the original images. We believe that the proposed computational technique in dPET can be useful tool for various clinical / research applications.

  • Ground roll is a surface wave which is usually observed in the land seismic data. It is one of the typical coherent noise. During the reflection data processing, ground roll is removed because it is considered as noise. This removal process often causes the loss of reflection signals if the ground roll overlaps reflection signals. In this study, we look over Karhunen-Loeve Transform (KLT) and analyze its effects to suppress the ground roll appropriately while reducing the reflection loss. Numerical tests in homogeneous elastic media show that the ground roll has been properly rejected. However, the field data application reveals that there is no significant suppression of ground roll when compared to band-pass filtering. This can be considered that it is hard to calculate horizontally aligned gathers in the field data because the ground roll contains a wide range of frequency bands. On the contrary, the result of singular value decomposition (SVD) filtering shows that the ground roll has been significantly reduced. It is thought that the SVD filtering performs better in the ground roll suppression than KLT because it is easy to calculate the horizontally aligned gathers in the SVD filtering.
