Numerical Evaluation of the Influence of Joint Roughness on the Deformation Behavior of Jointed Rock Masses (절리면의 거칠기 특성이 정리암반의 거동에 미치는 영향에 대한 수치해석적 연구)

  • The roughness of rock joint is one of the most important parameters in developing the shear resistance and the tendency of dilation. Due to the damage accumulated with shearing displacement, the roughness angle is lowered continuously. It is known that dilation, shear strength hardening, and softening are directly related to the degradation of asperities. Much effort has been directed to incorporate the complicated damage mechanism of asperities into a constitutive model fur rock joints. This study presents an elasto-plastic formulation of joint behavior including elastic deformability, dilatancy and asperity surface damage. It is postulated that the plastic portion of incremental displacement 7an be decomposed into contributions from both sliding along the asperity surface and damage of asperity. Numerical cyclic shear tests are presented to illustrate th? performance of the derived incremental stress-displacement relation. A laboratory cyclic shear test is also simulated. Numerical examples reveal that the elasto-plastic joints model is promising.

  • 분류층 석탄가스화기에서 슬래그의 원활한 배출은 가스화 플랜트 운전 및 성능에 중대한 영향을 미치는 것으로 알려져 있다. 가스화기의 운전 온도에서 슬래그 점도가 일정수준 이상인 경우에는 가스화기 하부 슬래그 배출구 막힘 현상을, 일정 수준 이하일 경우에는 Membrane wall의 slag 두께가 얇아져 가스화기 수냉벽에 열적 악영향을 미친다. 가스화기의 안정적인 운전을 위한 석탄 선정 시, 석탄 슬래그의 용융온도 및 점도의 파악이 중요하다. 일반적으로 석탄슬래그의 용융온도는 ASTM D-1857 절차에 따른 환원분위기에서의 회융유온도(FT)측정을 통해, 점도는 고온점도측정 실험을 통해 분석하고 있다. 이런 실험적인 분석방법은 다양한 슬래그조성 및 온도 변화에 따른 영향을 살펴보기에는 많은 시간과 비용이 발생하므로 슬래그조성 및 온도 변화에 따른 용융온도 및 점도 예측이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 200여 탄종의 회용유점 측정 결과와 FactSage에서 예측되는 슬래그 결정상 생성 및 회용유점(FT)에서의 고체분율과의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 다양한 Ash 조성(SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, CaO)에 대한 회용유점(FT)을 예측할 수 있는 프로그램을 개발하였다. 또한 50여 탄종의 슬래그 점도 측정 결과를 Facsage에서 예측되는 결정상 종류 및 Ash 조성을 기준으로 분류하였다. 결정상 종류 및 Ash 조성을 기준으로 기존 슬래그점도예측모델를 활용하여 보다 정확한 슬래그 점도 예측 프로세스를 개발하였다. 본 연구 결과는 플랜트 운전 결과 검증을 통하여 석탄 가스화 플랜트에 적합한 석탄의 선정, 혼탄 비율 및 첨가제 투입량 결정을 위해 활용될 것으로 기대된다.

Quantitative Estimation of Transmitted and Reflected Lamb Waves at Discontinuity (불연속면에서 램파의 반사와 투과에 대한 정량적 추정)

  • For the application of Lamb wave to structural health monitoring(SHM), understanding its physical characteristic and interaction between Lamb wave and defect of the host structure is an important issue. In this study, reflected, transmitted and mode converted Lamb waves at discontinuity of a plate structure were simulated and the amplitude ratios are calculated theoretically using Modal decomposition method. The predicted results were verified comparing with finite element method(FEM) and experimental results simulating attached PZTs. The result shows that the theoretical prediction is close to the FEM and the experimental verification. Moreover, quantitative estimation method was suggested using amplitude ratio of Lamb wave at discontinuity.

  • Most deep learning (DL) approaches for bridge damage localization based on a structural health monitoring system commonly use supervised learning-based DL models. The supervised learning-based DL model requires the response data obtained from sensors on the bridge and also the label which indicates the damaged state of the bridge. However, it is impractical to accurately obtain the label data in fields, thus, the supervised learning-based DL model has a limitation in that it is not easily applicable in practice. On the other hand, an unsupervised learning-based DL model has the merit of being able to train without label data. Considering this advantage, this study aims to propose and theoretically validate a damage localization approach for bridges using a variational autoencoder, a representative unsupervised learning-based DL network: as a result, this study indicated the feasibility of VAE for damage localization.

A Study on the Model of Multicultural Services in Public Libraries (공공도서관의 다문화서비스 모형 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to establish core elements required for the implementation of multicultural library services, to analyze the features of each element, and to develop a model of effective multicultural library services. This model was aimed to improve multicultural services and programs currently managed on a short-term basis by public libraries in Korea and help those libraries develop more systematic and long-term multicultural services. To proceed with this study, the literature review, a case study and a survey(the exploratory factor analysis, T-test and ANOVA analysis) were conducted. In this study, it is found that more effective operation of multicultural services in public libraries requires cooperation and integration with not only other libraries and related social and educational institutions in a community, but also international network. Based on this idea, the model of operating multicultural services in public libraries in Korea was proposed in this study.

  • This paper presents the results of an investigation on the effects of design variables on the behavior of geosynthetic-reinforced modular block walls in a tiered arrangement using the finite-element method of numerical analysis. A parametric study was performed by varying the offset distance between the tiers and reinforcement length of the lower and upper tier using verified finite-element model. The finite-element analysis provided relevant information on the mechanical behavior of the tier wall and interaction mechanism between the upper and lower tier, which was otherwise difficult to obtain from the limit-equilibrium analysis based current design approaches. Practical implications of the findings obtained from this study in the current design approaches are discussed in great detail.

Prediction of Major Parameters of Surface Settlements Due to Tunnelling (터널굴착으로 인한 지반침하의 주요 영향 인자 예측)

  • Although there are several empirical and semi-empirical formulae available for predicting ground surface settlement, most of them do not simultaneously take into consideration all the relevant factors, resulting in inaccurate predictions. In this study, an artificial neural network (ANN) is incorporated with 113 of monitored field results to predict surface settlement for a tunnel site with prescribed conditions. To achieve this, a format for a database of monitored field data is first proposed and then used for sorting out a variety of monitored data sets available in Korea Institute of Construction Technology. An optimal neural network model is suggested through preliminary parametric studies and introduces a concept of RSE (Yang and Zhang, 1997) in sensitivity analysis for various major factors affecting the surface settlement in tunnelling. It is seen in some examples that the RSE rationally enables to recognize the most significant factors of all the contributing factors. Two verification examples are undertaken with the trained ANN using the database created in this study. It is shown from the examples that the ANN has adequately recognized the characteristics of the monitored data sets retaining a generality fur further prediction.

A Study on the Improvement of Image Fusion Accuracy Using Smoothing Filter-based Replacement Method (SFR기법을 이용한 영상 융합의 정확도 향상에 관한 연구)

  • Image fusion techniques are widely used to integrate a lower spatial resolution multispectral image with a higher spatial resolution panchromatic image. However, the existing techniques either cannot avoid distorting the image spectral properties or involve complicated and time-consuming decomposition and reconstruction processing in the case of wavelet transform-based fusion. In this study a simple spectral preserve fusion technique: the Smoothing Filter-based Replacement(SFR) is proposed based on a simplified solar radiation and land surface reflection model. By using a ratio between a higher resolution image and its low pass filtered (with a smoothing filter) image, spatial details can be injected to a co-registered lower resolution multispectral image minimizing its spectral properties and contrast. The technique can be applied to improve spatial resolution for either colour composites or individual bands. The fidelity to spectral property and the spatial quality of SFM are convincingly demonstrated by an image fusion experiment using IKONOS panchromatic and multispectral images. The visual evaluation and statistical analysis compared with other image fusion techniques confirmed that SFR is a better fusion technique for preserving spectral information.

  • This paper describes the development of a simulator which can numerically calculate an image to be acquired in a machine vision system for automated optical inspection. The simulator is based on a ray tracing technique and composed of three modules which are an illuminating system, a specimen and an imaging system. Kinds of model parameters for modules and their values are carefully chosen from the direct measurement and the observation of related phenomena. Finally, the validity of the simulator is evaluated by logical analysis and by comparison with measured images.

  • In this paper, we propose a lava flow simulation program to predict the range of lava flows area and thickness of lava flows during volcanic eruptions. The map information is represented as a 'cell' with observed values per fixed area such as DEM and a lava flow prediction algorithm using a cellular automata model is performed to predict the flow of lava flows. To obtain quantitative data of lava flows, fluid properties of lava flows are defined as Bingham plastic fluid and derived equation is applied to the rules of cellular automata. To verify the program, we use a 30m resolution DEM provided by USGS. We compared simulation results with real lava flows for the Pu'u'O'o crater area in Hawaii, which has erupted since May 24, 2016.
