  • Accurate predictions and simulations of the behavior of space structures based on analytical models become more important. In order to perform analysis to support the design of Ku-band transponder panel for the Communications and Broadcasting Satellite(CBS), mathematical models of the panel were generated in the form of finite element models. Test verification of these models is required before the transponder panel can be certified for launch environments. A modal identification was performed to obtain modal parameters which can be compared with the test results using correlation techniques. This paper approaches the sensor placement from the standpoint of the structural dynamicist who uses the modal parameter obtained during launch environmental test. The models were validated by performing a test-analysis correlation and updating analysis. It was proved that the Ku-band transponder panel satisfies the environmental test requirements.

  • We simulate an emulsion system under simple shear rates to analyze its rheological characteristics using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). We calculate the relative viscosity of an emulsion under a simple shear flow along with changes in temperature, shear rate, and surfactant concentration. The relative viscosity of emulsions decreased with an increase in temperature. We observed the shear-thinning phenomena, which is responsible for the inverse proportion between the shear rate and viscosity. An increase in the interfacial tension caused a decrease in the relative viscosity of the decane-in-water emulsion because the increased deformation caused by the decreased interfacial tension significantly influenced the wall shear stress.

  • This study focuses on a detailed ball-bearing model for spur gears. The nonlinear ball-bearing stiffness with radial clearance is derived and calculated. The bearing stiffness is used to the 3-degree-of-freedom (DOF) spur gear system model. The mode characteristics of the gear system model are analyzed and verified by performing finite-element analysis (FEA). From the results, the bearing stiffness on the radial clearance was more sensitive under low-load conditions compared to high-load conditions. The bearing stiffness significantly affected the gear dynamics in the low-frequency region, while the mesh stiffness affected the high natural frequency.

  • A deterministic approach of slope stability, which is generally corresponding to the model of a simple non-linear function for slopes, is problematic in that it does not account the versatile characteristics of ground layers in an effective way. To resolve this problem, this study proposes a new way of analyzing slope stability, so-called “genetic algorithm method, ” so as to reflect some particular conditions pertaining to the grounds under concern. Similarities and differences in slope stability that may exist between homogeneous and multiple ground layers are examined in a competitive manner, Overall, though similarities deemed a little bit salient, the algorithm method turned out to be very applicable to estimating the validity of slope stability. Furthermore, an additional effort to consider long-standing sequential and dynamic changes in both the amount of rainfall and the underground water level is made in order to improve the results.

  • In this paper, an algorithm that enhances the conventional directional CSMA/CA protocol in IEEE 802.15.3c is proposed under saturation environments. For the algorithm, a Markov chain model is presented and analyzed in no-ACK mode. The effects of directional antennas and the features of IEEE 802.15.3c MAC are considered in the model. The optimal sizes of contention window are derived from the numerical results. The numerical results show that the proposed directional CSMA/CA algorithm outperforms conventional one. The overall analysis is verified by simulation. The obtained results provide the criterion for selecting the optimal parameters and developing a MAC protocol that enhances the performance of mmWave WPANs.

  • In this paper, we present a general model for synthetic transmit focusing method using plane waves (STF-PW) of which the properties are investigated through mathematical analysis and compared with those of the conventional focusing method. The analysis results show that STF-PW produces non-diffracting beams in the sense that their main lobe widths do not change with depth. We also present a method for synthesis of plane waves to obtain a desired main lobe width while preventing grating lobe generation and a method for broadening the region over which the non-diffracting property is maintained. The proposed model and analysis results were validated through computer simulations.

  • Public data open is one of the important tasks of Korea Government 3.0. By making open data available to the private sector, the goal is to create jobs, increase innovation and improve quality of life. Public data open is a policy that emphasized its importance worldwide. Open data should have adequate quality in order to achieve the object of the public. However, there are open data's quality problems due to the lack of data quality management and standardization. The purpose of this study is to derive data characteristics of public open data from existing researches. In addition, the model was modified and verified through a survey targeting the experts on public open data. The study indicates that public open data's quality characteristics as publicity, usability, reliability, suitability. This study is significant in that it suggests quality characteristics to improve the data quality and promote utilization of the open data.

  • The purpose of this work is to present a spatial neutron kinetics computational scheme for the analysis of space-dependent transients like rod ejection accident of pressurized water reactors. In this work modified Borresen's 1.5 group coarse mesh scheme was formulated for the neutronic computation of the space-dependent transients and applied to the analysis of hypothetical rod ejection accident of KNU no. 1 PWR core at BOC, HZP. The computational accuracy of the modified Borresen's scheme is examined by comparing calculations for core power and control rod worths with startup core physics test results. Effects of such parameters as ejected rod worths and number of delayed neution group ell transient results as well as computational efficiency are also examined. OB this basis it is suggested that the modified Borresen's method is a useful scheme for the analysis of spatial neutron transients of PWR's.

  • This paper proposed a combining technique of feature vectors which improves the performance of radar target recognition. The proposed method obtains more information than monostatic or bistatic case by combining extracted feature vectors from two receivers. For verifying the performance of the proposed method, we calculated monostatic and bistatic RCS(BRCS) of three full-scale fighters by changing the receiver position. Then, the scattering centers are extracted using 1-D FFT-based CLEAN from the calculated RCS data. Scattering centers are used as feature vectors for neural network classifier. The results show that our method has the better performance than the monostatic or bistatic case.
