A Metadata-based Data Grid System for the Integration of Military Information (군 정보통합을 위한 메타데이터 기반의 데이터 그리드 시스템)

  • Recently, the need for integration of military-related information is increasing. The fundamental problem for integrating existing information systems is semantic inconsistency. To solve this problem, the use of metadata is essential, because metadata is a key component for effective information integration. In this paper, we present a metadata-based data grid system for integrating military data sources. First, we investigate federated database approach and data grid approach for information integration, and deal with metadata-based data grid. Then we present a data grid system for the integration of military information.

  • The purpose of this study is to design the metadata for sharing and efficiently using the informations of Earth Observations in Korea. Recently the GEO(Group on Earth Observations) has been starting to manage all nation's informations in a way that benefits the environment as well as humanity by taking a pulse of the plants. For that reason, we have to construct the infra-system to manage and integrate the 12 social benefit areas in Korea; disaster, health, energy, climate, water, biodiversity, agriculture, forest, ocean, space information and geographical information system(GIS). But these informations have only been managed with varied metadatas in each area of observation, and then it is difficult to integrate varied informations. In this study, we solve the problem with meta-metadata.

  • Metadata standardization of resources, having a heterogeneous metadata structure for each presidential archive and presidential library and museum is preferentially required for utilizing and sharing presidential records. An integrated operation model of metadata to manage various types of presidential records is then needed. The purpose of this study is to create a design principle of integrated metadata, and to suggest relationships and attributes of metadata, needed for developing integrated metadata operation system on presidential records. The design principle includes "creation of relationship among presidential records", "design of each entity, applicable multiple entity data model", "design to describe various types of presidential records", "design to reflect lifelong management on records of holding institutes", and "designing hybrid metadata for long term preservation". Metadata element set consists of elements for common attributes with all types of presidential records for a unique attribute for a specific presidential record and for reference information among different records related to the production of presidential records.

  • It is important to manage large amount of information from various information providers for supporting recent information services such as providing global research trends, detecting emerging signal and listing leading researchers. For integrated management, definition of integrated metadata schema, data transformation and schema matching are needed. It is first necessary to analyze existing various metadata for defining integrated metadata schema. In this paper, we have analyzed several metadata of scientific journal papers by classifying semantics, content rules and syntax, and looked around considerations to make integrated schema or transform metadata. We have known that XML is used as a syntax for supporting convenience and various usage condition, and hierarchy element names and common elements in semantics are needed. We also have looked at elements having various content rules and related standards. We hope that this study will be used as basic research material of metadata integrated management, data transform and schema matching for interoperability.

  • Semantic quirks about the concept of metadata are briefly probed. The reasons behind the conceptual drift are also reviewed. Regarding different formats of metadata, the rationale behind the creation of new formats, their characteristics in relation to MARC format, and problems and methods of conversion or integration of metadata are investigated as background study. RDF (Resource Description Framework) as an integration tool for different metadata standards and Metadata Registry as a candidate for the purpose are studied and the both are compared. It is concluded that two approaches are not mutually exclusive, rather they are complimentary.

  • In this paper, we propose an integrated information retrieval system for distributed multiple KRISTAL-2002 systems by using the metadata information. This system integrates current systems for different areas or systems for the same area with the different schemas so that the users can get the answers by once from the whole systems. The proposed system composes of the Source Server Manager(SSM) supporting the mapping between the integrated metadata database and source server, the Integrated Metadata Manager(ISM) for registering and managing the metadata and schema mapping, the Distributed Query Processor (DQP) for processing the user query into the source server query, the Distributed Data Set Integrated Manager(DDSIM) for transforming the total retrieval results by merging to the HTML format, and the integrated retrieval engine for managing the query results. It is assumed that the integrated metadata follows ISO/IEC 11179 metadata registration procedure with the metadata registry system which is a subsystem of the proposed system. There are two kinds of queries for users; the basic query and the detailed query. The users may select the databases or organizations for results by their own choices before giving the queries. The proposed system has been developed over KRISTAL-2002 systems with $Visual C^{++}\;and\;C^{++}-CGI$ and tested and verified with the six database systems.

  • UAProfile과 MPEG-21 Terminal capability는 Device의 특성을 기술한다는 점에서는 비슷하다. 그러나 자세히 기술하고자 하는 특성이 다르므로 서로 다른 구조를 가지고 있다. 하지만 UAProfile과 MPEG-21 Terminal capability의 메타데이터를 통합함으로서 이 두 메타데이터 그룹들 간의 이질성을 극복할 수 있다. 또한 두개의 메타데이터들을 합쳤을 경우에는 서로 상호 보완적 역할을 하기 때문에 하나의 메타데이터 그룹을 사용한 결과보다 표현능력을 더 향상시킬 수 있다.

  • Conventional content management systems are independently developed for a specific field in general. Therefore usage of contents for the CMS will be limited to the corresponding CMS field. These characteristics might reveal a defect that CMS could not support effectively in exchange and sharing of information between CMSs. On the other hand, metadata standardization shows big differences in method and representation for the fields of CMS because all metadata standardizations are variously performed according to applications of them. There are lots differences that make interoperability between CMSs impossible. In this paper, we propose a novel metadata schema based on METS(metadata encoding and transmission standard) so that metadata standardization can be fulfilled in reality and solved the problem of duplicated contents created from different CMSs. This framework of integrated metadata proposed here can offer an interoperability between contents created by different CMSs, and discard duplicated contents. As a result of the proposed technology, we obtain 0.5% duplication rate from traditional 10.3%. In addition the filtering ability of duplicated contents shows from 92% to 96%, which proves the effectiveness and stability of the proposed technology.

  • 본 논문에서는 다양한 환경에서 수집된 서로 다른 시계열 데이터를 통합하여 분석 활용하기 위해 추가로 생성해야 할 시계열 데이터의 메타 정보를 정의하고 이를 기반하여 새로운 통합 데이터를 생성하는 방법을 소개한다. 시계열 데이터는 표준화된 기술 방법이 없고 다양한 소스에서 생성되기 때문에 이를 통합하고 활용할 경우 그 기준이 없기 때문에 전문적 지식이 없다면 처리에 어려움을 겪는다. 그러므로 서로 다른 특성의 데이터를 새로운 기준에 의거하여 통합하는 것을 목적으로 필요한 메타 정보를 정의하고 이를 기준으로 데이터를 재가공할 수 있도록 하였다.

  • 최근 인터넷과 네트워크 기술이 급격히 발전함에 따라 대용량의 동영상 데이터에 대한 서비스 요구가 급격히 증가하고 있으며, 인터넷 사용자는 비디오, 오디오, 텍스트 등으로 표현되는 다양한 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 쉽게 이용할 수 있게 되었다. 이러한 환경에서 동영상 컨텐츠의 저장, 교환 및 검색에 있어서 보다 나은 편리성을 요구하게 되었고, 이것은 동영상 데이터의 다양한 정보를 기술하기 위한 메타데이터의 중요성을 더욱 증대시키게 되었다. 그러나 이러한 서비스들을 데이터 포맷 및 서비스 종류에 따라 각기 다른 표준을 사용하고 있어 업계간 또는 서비스간에 다르게 표현되는 메타데이터 정보들을 통합 관리하기는 어려운 실정이다. 따라서, 이 논문에서는 기존의 메타데이터 관리 시스템의 이점을 수용하고, 이를 확장하여 각각의 표준에 따라 서로 다르게 표현되는 동영상 메타데이터를 통합 관리하기 위한 시스템을 제안한다.
