  • Process monitoring technology is able to detect the faults and the process changes which occur in a process unpredictably, which makes it possible to find the reasons of the faults and get rid of them, resulting in a stable process operation, high-quality product. Statistical process monitoring method based on data set has a main merit to be a tool which can easily supervise a process with the statistics and can be used in the analysis of process data if a high quality of data is given. Because a real process has the inherent characteristics of nonlinearity, non-Gaussianity, multiple operation modes, sensor faults and process changes, however, the conventional multivariate statistical process monitoring method results in inefficient results, the degradation of the supervision performances, or often unreliable monitoring results. Because the conventional methods are not easy to properly supervise the process due to their disadvantages, several advanced monitoring methods are developed recently. This review introduces the theories and application results of several remarkable monitoring methods, which are a nonlinear monitoring with kernel principle component analysis (KPCA), an adaptive model for process change, a mixture model for multiple operation modes and a sensor fault detection and reconstruction, in order to tackle the weak points of the conventional methods.

  • In the standard assumption of statistical process monitoring (SPM) under consideration, the in-control region of the control parameter of quality characteristic consists of a single point. However, if small deviations from the ideal situation may not be of practical importance, the parametric space can consist of three regions: In-control, indifference, and out-of-control. In this paper, we propose two exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) charting procedures applicable to the situation with three parameter regions, and compare the efficiency of the proposed procedures with the Shewhart chart and the cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart.

  • In statistical process control, the primary method used to monitor the number of nonconformities is the c-chart. The conventional c-chart is based on the assumption that the occurrence of nonconformities in samples is well modeled by a Poisson distribution. When the Poisson assumption is not met, the X-chart is often used as an alternative charting scheme in practice. And CUSUM-chart is used when it is desirable to detect out of control situations very quickly because of sensitive to a small or gradual drift in the process. In this paper, I compare CUSUM-chart to X-chart for the Katz family covering equi-, under-, and over-dispersed distributions relative to the Poisson distribution.

  • Many studies have been conducted to quickly detect out-of-control situations in autocorrelated processes. The most traditionally used method is a residual control chart, which uses residuals calculated from a fitted time series model. However, many procedures for monitoring autocorrelated processes using statistical learning methods have recently been proposed. In this paper, we propose a monitoring procedure using the latent vector of LSTM Autoencoder, a deep learning-based unsupervised learning method. We compare the performance of this procedure with the LSTM Autoencoder procedure based on the reconstruction error, the RNN classification procedure, and the residual charting procedure through simulation studies. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed procedure and the RNN classification procedure are similar, but the proposed procedure has the advantage of being useful in processes where sufficient out-of-control data cannot be obtained, because it does not require out-of-control data for training.

  • The objective of this paper is to develop variable sampling interval multivariate control charts that can offer significant performance improvements compared to standard fixed sampling rate multivariate control charts. Most research on multivariate control charts has concentrated on the problem of monitoring the process mean, but here we consider the problem of simultaneously monitoring both the mean and variability of the process.

  • Recently, monitoring and detecting anomalies in social networks have become an interesting research topic. In this study, we investigate the detection of abnormal changes in a network modeled by the DCSBM (degree corrected stochastic block model), which reflects the propensity of both individuals and communities. To this end, we propose three methods for anomaly detection in the DCSBM networks: One method for monitoring the entire network, and two methods for dividing and monitoring the network in consideration of communities. To compare these anomaly detection methods, we design and perform simulations. The simulation results show that the method for monitoring networks divided by communities has good performance.

  • Profile control chart aims to detect a change in the functional relationship of multivariate characteristics in the statistical process control. In monitoring two variables, a linear profile is of interest composed of the intercept and slope of one variable (response variable) against the other (explanatory variable). The previous studies on monitoring of the linear profile mostly assume that the explanatory variables are the same for all profiles. However, there are also cases where they vary depending on profiles. This paper intends to extend the monitoring method to where explanatory variables are different for each profile. We compare the new method's performance through simulation and apply it to monitoring a network intrusion using NSL-KDD data.

  • Traditional Shewhart control charts assume that the observations are independent over time. Current progress in measurement and data collection technology lead to the presence of autocorrelated process data that may affect poor performance in statistical process control. One of the most popular charts for autocorrelated data is to model a correlative structure with an appropriate time series model and apply control chart to the sequence of residuals. Model parameters are estimated by an in-control Phase I reference sample since they are usually unknown in practice. This paper deals with the effects of parameter estimation on Phase II control limits to monitor autocorrelated data.
