This study carefully selected weather and plantation-related records from Sinjeung "Donggukyeojiseungram"("新增東國輿地勝覽") and "Taekliji"("擇里志") and examined their climate and vegetational significance as research ancient Korean documents. Both documents include several counts of detailed descriptions of and the interest in the natural environment and ecology shown by the residents of the region in the 14th and 15th centuries and the 18th century. Utilizing these records is believe to understand and restore the meteorological environment, regional climate characteristics, climate in mountainous regions, temperature and precipitative distribution, and vegetation of the south coastal region and the southern, central and northern regions of those times. Such prospect, this author hopes, will spark specific discussion of research methodology of ecological landscape and physical geography based on ancient Korean documents.

In recent years, the number of returnfarmer is increasing in Korea, interlinked with baby boomer's retirement. One of the returnfarmer's serious problems is the decision making for his returnfarm place. This study intends to get information about a ideal returnfarm place by interpreting Jung-Hwan Lee's written in the Choseon Dynasty, and to use it for returnfarmer's decision making as a lesson in the present age. In the results, this study could finds 8 evaluation criteria in his book except his 4 requirements for a ideal place to live : Ji-ri(地理, geographic), Saeng-ri(生理, physiology), In-sim(人心, popular mind), and San-su(山水, landscape), which are (1) distance from seoul, (2)multi-habitation, (3)convenient transportation, (4)a natural disaster, (5)thief(public order), (6)refuge from a war & escaping from a troubled society, (7)feeling from a place, and (8)Jang-gi(poison coming from earth).

과학의 달, 4월의 문화인물로 선정된 조선조의 지리학자 이중환은 우리나라 지리학의 중시조. 그의 대표작 택리지는 우리의 전통적 풍수지리학을 반쯤 섞고 거기에 근대 지리학의 성격을 가미했다. 이 택리지는 사대부가 어디 살아야 할 것인가를 가르치기 위한 책으로 지리ㆍ생리ㆍ인심ㆍ산수 등 4가지로 나눠 설명했는데 이책은 1750년쯤 쓴 것으로 보인다.

This paper is the first geomorphological research on TAENGNIGI which is famous for old geography book in Korea. The purpose of this paper is to explain TAENGNIGI in modem geomorphological viewpoint and then, lay the foundation for establising Korean style geomorphological terms. It also analyzes TAENGNIGI from Lee, Jung-Hwan(the authority of TAENGNIGI's geomorphological viewpoint. The main results are summarized as follows. Firstly, It is estimated that TAENGNIGI is a geography book including human and physical geography. Secondly, in spite of Lee, Jung-Hwan's some metaphysical explanation of feng-shui in TAENGNIGI. his geomorphological appreciative eye is excellent. Thirdly, it is possible that a Korean style geomorphological term will be established based upon the result of this paper on TAENGNIGI. Fourthly, Lee, Jung-Hwan indicted geography(地理), profit(生利), human nature(人心), landscape(山水) as factors in selecting of people's dwelling place(可居地) and he described that geography(mainly physical geography) was mostly important among the four factors mentioned in selecting of people's dwelling place. Especially he also mentioned that good landscapes have a favorable influence upon the forming of people's character.
