A study on the effect of a underbody shape of rear part of a vehicle on pressure distribution of downstream using PIV (디지털 화상처리를 이용한 자동차 후부의 하면형상 이 압력분포에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to reduce a aerodynamic drag of the rear, body, effects of rear lower end configuration of a vehicles were investigated by measuring the pressure distribution, visual flow phenomena by the use of digital image processing technique. The use of flow visualization in recent years has improved the general understanding of structure of complex flow and has yielded valuable information for analyzing fluid flow. As the results, it was found that the shape of rear lower part vehicles not only effected on the pressure distribution of the rear part of the vehicle but also difference of the flow phenomena.

  • 3D-PTV measurement was conducted on the wake of a sphere. The Reynolds number is 1130 with the diameter(d=30mm). The measurement system consisted of three CCD cameras, an image grabber, an Ar-Ion laser and a host computer. An eigenvalue analysis was introduced for the analysis on the wake. Statistical turbulent properties were quantitatively clarified using the time-consecutive instantaneous three-dimensional vectors obtained by the 3D-PTV system. The spatial distributions of the sphere wake showed strong relations with spiral motions of the vortcies shedded from the surface of the sphere.

  • Experimental studies were reported on the characteristics of flows in a circular pipe in which ice slurry is flowing. This was mainly due to deficiency of conventional measurement techniques. In this report, the flow characteristics are quantitatively investigated by the use of PIV technique concerning the Ice Packing Factor(IPF) and the power changes of pump motor. It was experimentally verified that the power loss does not increase any more at a certain IPF value.

  • Turbulent properties of the wake of a circular cylinder were measured The diameter of the cylinder is l0mm and the Reynolds number is 420. A new 3D-PTY system was constructed and a genetic algorithm (GA) was introduced in order to increase the number of instantaneous three-dimensional velocity vectors. In the GA two fitness functions were introduced in order to enhance the correspondences of the particles. The measurement system consists of three CCD cameras, Ar-ion laser, an image grabber and a host computer. More than 3000 instantaneous three-dimensional velocity vectors were obtained by the system. The database of the turbulent properties of the circular cylinder was constructed by the constructed 3D-PTV system.

  • Experimental data for the flows in a mixing tank with a bottom agitator are useful for the validation of CFD commercial code. A hybrid volume PIV measurement technique was constructed to measure the flows inside of the mixing tank. The measurement system consists of three cameras. An agitator was installed at the bottom of the tank and it rotates clockwise and counterclockwise. Using the constructed measurement system, instantaneous vector fields were obtained. A phase averaging technique was adopted for the measured instantaneous three-dimensional velocity vector fields. Turbulent properties were evaluated from the instantaneous vector fields.

  • In this study, using frying oil, performance of engine and emission concentration were compared with the case of using diesel oil. And results are as follows. 1. Engine torque and brake horse power indicate nearly same value as the case of using diesel fuel. 2. Temperature of exhaust gas was increased with as high engine speed and load. 3. To reduce concentration of hydrocarbon, it is effective to operate using used frying oil in low engine speed and load, and adding LPG in high engine speed and load. 4. Concerning with concentration of carbon mono oxide and smoke emission, it was assured, that as engine load increased, lower concentration emitted in case of utilizing mixed fuel than that of utilizing pure diesel fuel.

  • Quantitative performance test on the conventional 2D-PIV and the hybrid angular 3D-PIV (Stereoscopic PIV) was carried out. LES Data sets on an impinging jet which are provided on the webpage(http://www.vsj.or.jp/piv) for the PIV Standard Project were used for the generation of virtual images. The generated virtual images were used for the 2D-PIV and 3D-PIV measurements. The measurement results showed that the results obtained by 2D-PIV on average values are closer to the LES data than those obtained by 3D-PIV, but the turbulent properties obtained by 2D-PIV are largely underestimated than those obtained by 3D-PIV.

  • This is a fundamental study to improve the performance of the LPG engine. The result were summarized as followed. 1. The measured torque and power on the fuel of LPG were indicated about 8% lower than those on gasoline with the same compression ratio. 2. In the case of LPG, BSFD at compression ratio of 9.7 was about 5% lower than that of 8.3 at 3,000ppm 3. HC and CO concentrations of the LPG were lower about 53%, 35% than those of gasoline

  • Inspiring or mimicking biological bodies is regarded as one of a breakthrough in the conventional engineering. The bird's motion is one of the mimicking objects. Seagulls fly under strong storm at sea. An attempt of investigating into the characteristics of a seagull model's motion and its flow fields has been made in this study. Three cameras, two for motion capture and one for flow field, were used. The motions of the seagull's wing have been reconstructed, and the flow characteristics around the wing have been investigated with 2D-PIV measurements.

  • The sloshing flows in the cargo tank model of a ship are measured by PIV and are analyzed with the results. The measurement system is consisted of a Nd-Yag laser(120mJ, 15Hz). two cameras($1k\;{\times}\;1k$) and a host computer. Four experimental cases were tested for the tank model. in which swaying motions are made by 6 DOF-motion platform. The amplitudes of swaying are 9.76mm and 29.29mm, and the frequencies are 0.633Hz and 0.828Hz. The measurement regions are the vertical plane 50mm away from the front wall of the tank where a pump tower is installed. It was verified that the flow patterns of the sloshing are similar each other when the swaying amplitudes are similar.
