  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic visitor information through understanding visitors' attitudes to the attributes for recreational experiences. To accomplish the purpose of the study, a questionnaire survey was conducted on major entry points in Taean Coast National Park. As for the results, socioeconomic characteristics of the visitors' parks were similar to the findings of previous studies of national park visitors. The visitors' overall attitudes to significance levels of the 20 attributes which are related to the recreation experience were perceived as from normal to not serious, but a few dissatisfaction factors were indicated in park facility use. The satisfaction level was evaluated in the affirmative.

To accomplish the purposes of study, a questionnaire survey was chosen and the 291 valid samples among them were analyzed. Among who used the interpretive media, the largest proportion used the visitor center exhibits, and the usage rate of interpretive label of woody plant and guided interpretation were shown to be relatively high. However, the park brochures(map) was evaluated that use efficiency was low. In the analysis of importance-performance for the environmental interpretation media, the mean of importance was 3.64 and that of performance was 3.03, which were lower than Chiaksan and Weolchusan National Park's survey data.

  • This study surveyed visitors' perceptions of Mudeungsan National Park's Seoseokdae Trail Section (STS) on the visitor reservation system (VRS). Data were collected from 248 visitors to STS selected through convenient sampling in May 2019. The majority (86.9%) of the respondents rated their overall experience in STS as either "no problem at all" or "little problem". Moreover, 43.0% of the respondents were aware of the VRS. The most popular information source for VRS was the Internet (49.7%), followed by other people (18.4%) and broadcasting media, e.g., TV (17.7%). While 69.9% of the respondents thought that implementation of VRS would be effective in improving managerial conditions of the STS, respondents perceived that "cumbersome reservation procedures" (79.3%) of the VRS operation was the most important problem, followed by "unfairness associated with Internet familiarity gap" (78.7%) and "deprivation of the opportunities to visit freely" (76.3%). The support for VRS implementation was higher among higher-aged, married, higher-educated, more frequent STS visitors, Gwangju residents, and solo visitors than the other groups. The "knowledge level about VRS" and "the awareness level about potential problems associated with VRS operation" negatively influenced the support for the implementation of VRS, while "the perceived managerial effectiveness of VRS" positively influenced it.

  • This study was carried out to maintain, manage and restore the trails by assessing the physical conditions, the patterns of deterioration and the impact rating class of the major trails of Juwangsan National Park. The major trails followed 4 routes including Jubong, Gamaebong, Janggunbong~Geumeungwangi and Woloe. The route length of Jubong was 4.6 km; it was 3.6 km for Gamaebong, 5.6 km for Janggunbong~Geumeungwangi and 5.9 km for Woloe. As for the physical conditions, Jubong was the widest and Janggunbong~Geumeungwangi was the narrowest in trail width. In terms of the bared trail width, Jubong was the widest and Janggunbong~Geumeungwangi was the narrowest. As for the depth of erosion, Gamaebong was the deepest and Woloe was the shallowest. Janggunbong~Geumeungwangi was the steepest and Gamaebong was the gentlest in the slope. Further, Gamaebong showed the highest soil hardness, and Woloe had the lowest hardness. In terms of the times of appearance of deterioration patterns, Jubong recorded 71 times, Gamaebong 62 times, Janggunbong~Geumeungwangi 63 times and Woloe 78 times. In case of the impact rating class, the trail erosion was similar to grades I and II grade; the rest were mostly I grade and hence considered to be in a generally good condition. For the ongoing management of trails, a comprehensive study needs to be conducted in the light of various environmental factors. Also, a restoration plan for damaged trails should be established with consideration for the surrounding environment and ecosystem.

  • This study evaluated the efficacy of information and self-interpretive media that provide information on park environment using self-administered visitor survey to the Dadohaehaesang National Park, Korea. Excluding missing and unreliable responses, 205 valid responses were used for the analysis. Socioeconomic status and visiting behavior of the visitors to the Dadohaehaesang National Park were similar to those to other Korean national parks. Results showed that, of the self-interpretive media, 'Information board of park use and resources' were most frequently used (87.7%), followed by 'Interpretive label of woody plant,' and 'Bulletin boards for information and enlightenment.' 'Guided interpretation' was used less than 40% of the visitors. Visitors also highly rated the importance of the media (higher than 4.0 on average out of 5 point Liker scale question). The average performance rate was 3.82, suggesting that visitors were satisfied on the self-interpretive media. Visitors responded that 'Information board of park use and resources' and 'Bulletin boards for information and enlightenment' were not useful and, therefore, should be amended and managed to improve the self-interpretability of the media.

Satisfaction factors by Factor Analysis were loaded with 'user management' at Naesosa(65.1%) and 'business behavior management at Gyeokpo(68.4%) by the highest contribution degree. In estimated model of satisfaction by Multiple Regression Analysis showed in order of 'Injury of landscape resource', 'Lack of information facility', 'crowding' and 'Lack of employee's guidance or kindness' at Naesosa and 'Injury of landscape resource', 'Lack of information facility', 'Illegal merchant', Lack of facility to stay' and 'Lack of employee's guidance or kindness' at Gyeokpo.
