The purpose of this study is to show practices of teaching method based on the type of knowledge in geography education. The results of examining the type of knowledge according to the five themes in guidelines for geographic education in america are as follows: the empirical-analytic knowledge-centered contents are suited for designing concepts inquiry-centered teaching. The historical-hermeneutic knowledge-centered contents are suited for designing problem solving-centered teaching. The critical knowledge-centered contents are suited for designing decision-making-centered teaching. In this shsdy, 1 emphasized teaching method based on the type of knowledge in Ceographv Education according to the responses of students and academic achievement. However, in practice l propose that teachers construct their lesson plans according to their various spheres of interest.
The purposes of this study were to develop teaching strategy enhancing the activity to explore variables and to examine the instructional influences on students' creative thinking skills and critical thinking skills. In this study, a model using listing-excluding-controlling variables (DPAS model) was designed and applied to the existing 'Teaching model for the enhancement of the creative problem solving skills'. And it was implemented to preservice science teachers for the one semester. Results indicated that the experimental group presented statistically meaningful improvement in creative thinking skills, especially in recognizing problems, making hypothesis, controlling of variables and interpreting & transforming of data (p<.05). In addition, the strategy contributed to improve critical thinking skills, especially in making hypothesis and making conclusion & generalization (p<.05).

We investigated the effects of hypothetical deductive experiment on students' views about the nature of science (NOS). Participants were 212 eighth graders from a middle school and they were assigned to a control group and an experimental group. Students of the control group did guided experiment in small group and students of the experimental group did hypothetical deductive experiment in small group. The results revealed that both students of the control group and the experimental group possessed similar views about NOS in a pretest. But the experimental group exhibited more sophisticated views about the theory of dependance of observation, scientific reasoning and hypothesis in the posttest. Students who used mainly surface learning strategy within the experimental group exhibited more sophisticated views about hypothesis in the posttest. On the other hand, students who used mainly deep learning strategy within the experimental group exhibited more sophisticated views about the theory of dependance of observation, scientific reasoning and hypothesis in the posttest.

This study was conducted to examine the practical and educational implications of teachers' operation of the curriculum through science and online classes based on data collected for 4 months from 4 teachers who had experience in science subject online classes among homeroom teachers in the 3rd to 6th grades of elementary school in D city. This study was conducted through narrative inquiry. As a result of conducting interviews and in-depth interviews based on the online class experiences of the Earth Science Unit of the study subjects, and conducting field classes with related documents such as online class-related materials and teacher journals, teachers were more likely to take online classes compared to traditional face-to-face classes. They spent more time preparing and showed difficulties in the process of adapting to the new medium used in online classes. In addition, they demanded the provision of scientific materials produced in a pandemic situation and a teaching platform for smooth class operation. In particular, in the case of experimental classes, there is a burden of completing the planned curriculum, and in a pandemic situation, students felt the need for individual experimental tools for intensive science classes. As a result, it is necessary to introduce a blended learning learning system that combines the advantages of face-to-face and online classes as a new class form for the transition to future education in preparation for the pandemic. Continuous teacher research on the format and online class experience is required.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of lessons adopting portfolio assessment regarding feedback on elementary school student's scientific knowledges, inquiry abilities and their perceptions of it. For this study, two classes of 5th grade elementary school in suburb were selected. As an experimental group, one class was selected to apply the lessons adopting portfolio assessment regarding feedback, and the other class as a control group was selected to apply the lessons adopting portfolio assessment without feedback. The investigator taught and assessed both group students. The results showed a significant difference in scientific knowledge between the experimental group and the control group (p<.05). More detailed analysis of scientific knowledge found that the feedback effect was statistically positive in the memory and the understanding domain, but there was no effect in the application domain. No statistical difference was identified in inquiry abilities. The results of the questionnaire on the perceptions of portfolio assessment showed that students of the experimental group had higher positive responses on the 'perception about the effects of lesson' and on the 'perception in scientific attitudes' than the control group. However, the control group students had higher positive responses on the 'perception about self-evaluate of their own portfolio' and the 'perception about need of feedback' than the experimental group.
The purpose of this study was to develop a teaching strategy focused on science writing and to investigate its effects on enhancing students' creative thinking skills. In advance, students in the experiment were led to write by inquiry elements. And students in the experiment group were taught by science writing strategy. Students in the control group were taught by traditional lecture-based instructions. The program was implemented over a semester. The results indicated that the experimental group presented statistically meaningful improvement in creative thinking skills(p<.05). Especially, science writing was effective on fluency and flexibility development(p<.05). This study suggests that science writing can be effective for improvement of creative thinking skills.

The effects of learning using Information Communication Technology(ICT) on the students' scientific inquiry ability and science-related affective characteristics were analyzed in Earth History and Crust Movement units of science textbook for eighth graders. For this study, two classes of middle school second students in Chung-nam were selected and taught for six week under different teaching methods. One class is the test class taught with ICT applied teaching materials and the other class is the control class instructed by a conventional method. One week before the experiment, both classes were given tests on scientific inquiry ability and science-related affective characteristics, and they were tested again after the experiment. The results of scientific inquiry test showed statistically meaningful differences in the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class showed statistically meaningful difference in scientific inquiry test. Science-related affective characteristics test showed no statistically meaningful difference in the experimental class. Among three scientific science-related affective characteristics, especially the one fields of interests showed statistically meaningful differences which suggest that learning using ICT has a positive effect on the expanding of students' science-related affective characteristics.

In the era of the 4th industrial revolution and convergence, various discussions and studies have been conducted to develop future social talents, and through this, the need for creative convergence talents is increasing. In line with the change to a software-oriented society, countries around the world are trying to strengthen SW education, but high school students' awareness of the necessity of information subject and SW education that is the center of convergence is insufficient. Therefore, opportunities for convergence of the information subject and various fields should be provided. In this study, information education was converged to the science exploration experiment subject to construct an educational program that can develop creative convergence, and a convergence class using physical computing were applied to high school students for 9 hours. As a result of the experiment, the recognition of SW education of the experimental group was improved, and it was confirmed that the learner's convergence literacy of the experimental group was statistically different from that of the control group that conducted the general science experiment class.

Although cooperative learning strategies in many subject areas have been found to be effective, the effect of cooperative learning on academic achievement in science laboratory setting is not clear. Reported results on the effects of the strategies for higher achieving students are not also consistent. In this study, the cooperative learning strategies emphasizing student-centered learning which included higher order thinking activities were used in a elementary school science course. The cooperative and traditional learning groups were selected from fifth-grade classes, and taught about dissolution and solution for 16 class periods. The effects of the cooperative learning strategies upon students' academic achievement, science process skill, the attitude toward science instruction, and the perceptions of classroom environment were investigated. Two-way ANCOVA results revealed that the test scores of academic achievement and science process skill for the cooperative learning group were significantly higher than those of the traditional learning group. No interaction between the instruction and the level of previous achievement was found. The perceptions of confliction were higher in cooperative learning group. In the attitude toward science instruction and the perceptions of participation, however, no significant difference between the two groups was found. Educational implications are discussed.
The purpose of this study was to explore the elementary school teachers' perceptions about making a model of volcanic activity. Thirty elementary teachers participated in the study after they in which they conducted the experiment of "Making a Model of Volcanic activity". A questionnaire was used to investigate how the teachers understood the strengths and weaknesses of the experiment in terms of the goals of school science inquiry. The results showed that 50-60% of the teachers were able to conduct the experiment as guided in the textbook regardless of their career or area of concentration. The teachers perceived that the experiment of current textbook was safe and useful for students to develop their creativity. However, they pointed out three major weaknesses of the textbook experiment: First, the textbook experiment does not clearly present the main purpose of the activity. Second, it does not appropriately reflect the natural volcanic activity. Third, it is a merely simple craft activity. In addition, the teachers agreed that the main goals of school science inquiry are the application of scientific knowledge, development of inquiry skills and cultivation of student's curiosity. However, the teachers perceived that the experiment of current textbook did not meet these three goals. They suggest that the experiment reflect the nature of real volcanic activities.
