  • It is known that the best way to recycle fly ash is to use in concrete. It is impossible to bury in the ground this fly ash recently, so it is trying to use high volume fly ash concrete. Nevertheless, recent main research topics are focused in the part of material only, however, it is necessary to perform the researches about elasticity modulus, stress-strain relationship and structural behavior. Therefore, in this paper, 18 test members were manufactured with 3 test variables, namely fly ash replacement ratio 0, 35, 50%, concrete compressive strength 20, 40, 60 MPa and 2 tensile steel ratio. 18 test members were tested for flexural behavior. From the test results, there were no differences between 35, 50% high volume fly ash cement concrete and ordinary concrete without fly ash(FA=0%).

  • Parametric study of beams with reinforced with FRP rebar is conducted in this study. Using ABAQUS program, the finite element analysis model is set and calibrated with the experimental results which have been conducted by the authors. The employed design parameters are reinforcement ratio, elastic modulus of rebar, and concrete strength. The obtained results from FE analysis are investigated in terms of normalized beam stiffness. In particular, the effect of reinforcement ratio on the flexural stiffness is investigated with comparing with the model code specified on ACI 440. From the analysis results, the reinforcement ratio in beam is the first parameter affecting on the beam stiffness. In addition, its effect could be increased with higher concrete strength.

  • This research was performed to investigate the manufacturing possibility of the particleboard treated with commercial fire retardant chemicals. Laboratory test boards at this investigation were made from particles treated by soaking into 5, 10, 15, and 20 percent concentration solutions of ammonium sulfate and Minalith before resin was applied. According to the results, MOR (modulus of repture) and MOE (modulus of elasticity) in flexure exceeded type 100 (100 kgf/$cm^2$, $1.5{\times}10^4\;kgf/cm^2$) of the Korean Industrial Standard (KS F 3104). Except for 15 and 20 percent chemicals concentrations of Minalith, every internal bond stress values met type 100 (1.5 kgf/$cm^2$) of KS F 3104. However thickness swelling values of fire retardant treated particleboards were not reached in the Standard (12%).

  • This paper is a preliminary study to apply the lightweight concrete slabs reinforced with GFRP (glass fiber reinforced polymer) bars to the bridge deck slabs or some other concrete structures. So, some different behaviors between the conventional steel reinforced concrete slab and the lightweight concrete slab reinforced with GFRP bars were investigated. For this purpose, a number of slabs were constructed and then the three point bending test and numerical analysis for these slabs were performed. The flexural test results showed that the lightweight concrete slabs reinforced with GFRP bars were failed by the shear failure due to the over-reinforced design. The weight and failure load of the GFRP bar reinforced lightweight concrete slabs were 72% and 58% of the steel reinforced concrete slab with the same dimensions, respectively. Results of the numerical analysis for these slabs using a commercial program, midas FEA, showed that the load-deflection curve could be simulated well until the shear failure of the slabs, but the applied loads and the deflections continuously increased even beyond the shear failure loads.

  • Recently, the public interest in eco-friendly material and structure has been increasing and many Hwang-toh researches are being actively performed. Hwang-toh is one of the traditional environment friendly construction materials used as a construction and plastering material. Hwang-toh has many advantages as construction material due to its high heat storage capacity, auto-purification, antibiotic ability, and infrared ray emission characteristics. But, currently it has not been developed into construction material and used in modern construction due to its low strength and dry shrinkage cracking prone characteristics. According to the recent researches and study results, Hwang-toh can be used as a natural pozzolanic material like fly-ash or pozzolan. In this study, mechanical properties and structural flexure behavior experiments of slag, recycled PET fiber, and Hwang-toh added concrete are carried out. The test results showed that drying shrinkage of concrete mixed with Hwang-toh has lower compressive strength and elastic modulus than those of control cement concrete specimen, but it has the similar flexural behavior in reinforced concrete beams.

  • This study is to develop equations that consider the elastic modulus ratio of FRP bar and steel reinforcement, shear span to depth ratio, and flexural reinforcement ratio of FRP bar, to determine concrete shear strength of FRP reinforced concrete beams without shear reinforcement. As experimental parameters, 2 types of FRP bar, 3 types of shear span to depth ratio, and 3 types of flexural reinforcement were used. Experimental results for two of shear span to depth ratio were quoted from previous study to evaluate effect of shear span to depth ratio in more detail. Shear strength correction factors needed for evaluating concrete shear strength were proposed from regression analysis using above experimental results. Equations suggested from this study and other codes were examined and compared with 31 experimental results available in the literature. From this comparison, it could be known that the equation suggested from this study gives the most approaching result to experimental results.

  • Parabolic arch ribs are widely used in practical. In case of circular arch ribs. Inelastic in-plane buckling behaviors were investigated by Trahair(1996). Recently Yong-lin Pi & Bradford(2004) investigated about in-plane design equation for circular arch ribs. In $1970{\sim}1980$. In-plane buckling strength about parabolic arch ribs were studied by some japan researchers (Sinke, Kuranishi). Study results of Sinke & kuranishi are only valid for rise-span ratio $0.1{\sim}0.2$. In this paper. The researchers investigated about in-plane inelastic buckling behaviors of parabolic arch ribs having rise-span ratio from 0.1 to 0.4. From the results. When the rise-span ratio increase, flexural moments increase and influence of axial force to in-plane buckling strength decrease. Finally, buckling curves for parabolic arch ribs subjected distributed loading along the axis were suggested.

  • This paper deals with free vibrations of the Timoshenko beam supported by two elastomeric bearings at two far ends. The ordinary differential equation governing free vibrations of such beam is derived, in which both effects of rotatory inertia and shear deformation are included as the Timoshenko beam theory. Also, boundary conditions of the free end are derived based on the Timoshenko beam theory. The ordinary differential equation is solved by the numerical methods for calculating natural frequencies and mode shapes. Both effects of the rotatory inertia and shear deformation on natural frequencies are extensively discussed. Also, relationships between natural frequencies and slenderness ratio, foundation modulus and bearing length are presented. Typical mode shapes of bending moment and shear force as well as deflection are given in figures which show the positions of maximum amplitudes and nodal points.

  • In this study, eco-friendly hybrid composite boards were manufactured from green tea and wood fibers for application as interior materials with various functionalities of green tea and strong strength properties of wood fibers. In this relation, the effect of green tea content on the static bending strength performances of these green tea and wood fibers composite boards were investigated. Static bending strengths of hybrid composite boards were lower than those of control boards and decreased with the increase of green tea content. Also, the strength performances appeared to be somewhat different by resin type used for board manufacture. The hybrid composite boards manufactured from $E_1$ grade urea resin adhesive, which has higher molar ratio of formaldehyde to urea than that of $E_0$ grade one, were 1.08~1.53 times higher in bending modulus of elasticity (MOE) and 1.19~1.82 higher in modulus of rupture (MOR) than that manufactured from $E_0$ grade. And, the differences of MOE and MOR between hybrid composite boards manufactured from $E_0$ grade and $E_0$ grade urea resin adhesive increased with the increase of green tea content. In the case of hybrid composite boards manufactured from $E_1$ grade urea resin adhesive, the MOR was within 0.94~1.03 times the commercial medium density fiberboard. Thus, it was thought that eco-friendly hybrid composite boards with various functionalities and strong strength performances could be manufactured from green tea and wood fibers.
