Partial-EHL Analysis of Wheel Bearing for a Vehicle (자동차용 휠 베어링의 부분탄성유체윤활 해석)

  • Most machine element, such as gears and bearings, are operated in the mixed lubrication region. Contact between two asperities has an effect on machine life by increasing local pressure. To estimate fatigue life exactly, asperity contact should be considered as a factor of fatigue life because this happening produce friction, abrasion and make flash temperature. In this paper, asperity contact is considered as a result of film breakdown when lubricant pressure is not enough to separate two asperities. Contact pressure is calculated to asperity overlap region and added to lubricant pressure. For this model, numerical procedure is introduced and the result on surface roughness and velocity for wheel bearing is presented. Results of EHL analysis for wheel bearing show that asperity contact is occurred at the edge ofEHL conjunction where has a insufficient lubricant pressure to separate two surface.

인청동의 내마모성에 관한 연구

  • 현재 엘리베이터용 worm gear의 wheel로써 가장 많이 사용되고 있는 것은 인청동이다. 일반적으로 청동에 인의 함량이 0.05% - 0.5% 정도 잔류하는 인청동은 용탕의 유동성이 좋아지고, 합금의 강도, 경도가 증가하며 내마모성, 탄성이 증가한다. 또한 P는 극소량 Cu 중에 고용하나 그 외에는 경하고 취약한 $Cu_3P$상으로 존재하고, P의 함유에 따라 Sn의 고용도가 저하하므로 주조 조직중에 $\delta$상($Cu_{31}Sn_8$)이 증가하여 Sn을 증가한 때와 같이 경도가 커지는 효과가 있다. 이같이 기지상 중에 간단한 3원 공정부 ($\alpha + \delta + Cu_3P$)상이 산재하여 있어 이것이 마찰상대면을 지탱하여 내마모 역할을 하기 때문에 인청동이 내마모 재료로써 많이 쓰이고 있는 것이다.

EHL Analysis of the Ball Joint Contact in a Reciprocating Compressor (왕복동형 압축기 볼 조인트 접촉의 탄성유체윤활 해석)

  • In this study, a multigrid multi-integration method has been used to solve the steady-state, elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) point contact problem of a ball joint mechanism used in small reciprocating compressors. Pressure and film thickness profiles have been calculated at minimum and maximum Moes M parameter conditions during one revolution of crankshaft. The effects of various lubricant viscosities, loads, ball velocities, elastic modulli, and radii of curvature on the calculated pressure distribution and film thicknesses have been investigated. The results indicate that the viscosity of lubricant, the sliding velocity of ball, and the reduced radius of curvature have considerable effects on the minimum and central film thicknesses. Solutions obtained with the multigrid analysis are compared with results calculated according to the Hamrock & Dowson relations for the minimum and central film thicknesses.

Friction Effects on the Performance of Double-Bumped Air Foil Bearings (이중범프포일 공기베어링의 성능에 미치는 마찰효과)

  • This paper deals with friction effects on the performance of double-bumped AFBs. The stiffness and damping coefficients of the double bump vary depending on the external load and its friction coefficient. The double bump can be either in the single or double active region depending on vertical deflection. The equivalent stiffness and damping coefficients of the bump system are derived from the vertical and horizontal deflection of the bump, including the friction effect. A static and dynamic performance analysis is carried out by using the finite difference method and the perturbation technique. The results of the performance analysis for a double-bumped AFB are compared with those obtained for a single-bumped AFB. This paper successfully proves that a double bumped AFB has higher load capacity, stiffness, and damping than a single-bumped AFB in a heavily loaded condition.

  • In many practical lubricated contacts such as a rough concentrated contact on the sliding of nominally flat surfaces, the fluid may be of molecular (nanometer) scale owing to the asperity interactions on the surfaces. Under this condition, there is insufficient lubricant on the concentrated contact spot to maintain a realistic continuum. Rheological behavior for this kind of concentrated contact has been studied extensively to know whether the application of viscous fluid model is appropriate. The interaction of two rough surfaces is simplified as perfectly flat-rough surfaces contact under certain conditions by "composite topography" and for a nanometer scale fluid film, three kinds of rheological fluid behavior are analyzed in elastohydrodynamic asperity point contact.t contact.

Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Line Contacts Incorporating Bair & Winer's Limiting Shear Stress Rheological Model (한계전단응력형태의 Bair & Winer 리올로지 모델을 사용한 선접촉 탄성유체윤활해석)

  • The Bair & Winer's limiting shear stress rheological model is incorporated into the Reynolds equation to successfully predict the traction and film thickness for an isothermal line contact using the primary rheological properties. The modified WLF viscosity model and Barus viscosity model are also adapted for the realistic prediction of EHD tractional behavior. The influences of the limiting shear stress and slide-roll ratio on the pressure spike, film thickness, distribution of shear stress and nonlinear variation of traction are examined. A good agreement between the disc machine experiments and numerical traction prediction has been established. The film thickness due to non-Newtonian effects does not deviate significantly from the fdm thicknesss with Newtonian lubricant.

Dynamic Elastohydrodynamic Film Thickness in Rocker-Arm Valve Train System (로커암 밸브 트레인의 동적 탄성유체윤활 유막 연구)

  • Many computational researches have been performed about EHL film thickness in the contact between cam and follower in the engine valve train system. However, those computations do not explain the characteristics of dynamic film thickness which means squeeze film effect. Without the consideration of transient term in the Reynold's equation, the predicted film thickness from steady state condition has large difference from the actual film thickness. In this study, we have investigated the kinematic and dynamic simulations of rocker-arm valve train system. From the dynamic simulation, the applied load and the entraining velocity of the lubricant between cam and follower are obtained and with these values the dynamic film thickness is computed by Newton-Raphson method and compared with the steady state film thickness.

Study on the Measurement Technology of Fluid Film Thickness with Nanometer Scale by Dichromatic Incident Light (Dichromatic 투사광선에 따른 나노 미터 해상도의 점접촉 유막 두께 측정 연구)

  • Many technologies are applied to the measurement of elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) film thickness. In particular, optical in-situ interferometric method has many advantages in making the actual contact behaviors realized with the experimental apparatus. Careful selection of incident lights greatly enhances the fringe resolution up to nanometer scale by using image processing technology. In this work, it is found that dichromatic incident light can provide much finer resolution of EHL film thickness than monochromatic incident light, because it has much more variables of color components to be discriminated among the wavelengths of colors according the variations of EHL film thickness. Some simulated interferometric images are shown how the film thickness is resolutionized in nanometer scale

Elasto-hydrodynamic Lubrication Analysis for Biomimetic Riblet Surface like Shark Skin (상어표피 모사 리블렛 구조의 탄성유체윤활 해석)

  • For the characteristic assessment of biomimetic shark skin structure pattern for engineering applications, we conducted the elastic hydrodynamic lubrication analysis for the shark skin surface pattern. The shark skin surfaces with roughness are generated numerically in the similar size with real shark skin scales. For the spherical contact on the generated shark skin surface with two different flow directions which are transversal and longitudinal, 3-dimensional elasto-hydrodynamic lubraction analysis are carried out. The result of the longitudinal flow which are similar with the flow of shark skin shows more beneficial effects with lower pressure and less sensitive effect with surface roughness.

  • 레이저 텍스쳐와 미케니칼 텍스쳐 컴퓨터 하드디스크의 마찰과 마코 매카니즘이 Contact Start/Stop test 실행후의 특성들에 대해 연구되었다. 다양한 분석적이고 기계적인 테스트 기술들이 이용되었다. 형상, 조도, 화학적 조성, 기계적 성질, CSS 로부터 기인된 코팅의 마찰특성들에 대해 그 변화들을 조사하였다. 즉, AFM(Atomic Force Microscopy), Nano-Indentation, Nano-Scratch, TOF-SIMS(Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy), AES(Auger Electronic Spectroscopy)등이 이 연구에 적용되었다. 레이저 텍스쳐 범프의 표면조도와 미케니칼 텍스쳐 지역의 표면조도는 각각 대략적으로 4nm 와 7nm 감소되었다. 탄성계수와 경도값은 CSS test후에 증가하였고 가장 바깥쪽의 코팅층의 변형강화가 생겨났다. 자성층과 Ni-P 층 사이에 점착성의 문제가 확인되었다. TOF-SIMS 분석은 C 와 $C_2F_5$의 세기에 있어서 감소를 드러냈고 이것은 코팅 표면에 윤활제 요소의 마모를 확실시 할수 있는 결과로 나타났다.
