  • Sclerotinia rot was occurred on the leaf and stem of Peucedanum japonicum Thunb. in greenhouse field of Pohang city of Gyeongbuk province in Korea. The typical symptom of the disease was light brown spot and tipburn on infected leaves. The colony of the isolated fungus was white to light gray in color. Asci were cylindrical shape and 75-240×5.9-17.3 ㎛ in size. Apothecia were cup-shaped with numerous asci and 0.5-0.9 cm in size. Ascospores were aseptate and ellipsoid in shape, and 8.4-10.7×4.8-5.8 ㎛ in size. Sclerotia formed on the plants and potato dextrose agar medium were globose to irregular in shape and black in color. Partial sequencing of rDNA of this isolate showed that it was 100% consistent with that of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. It was confirmed that the same lesion was formed by reinoculating this pathogen on a healthy P. japonicum Thunb. and the same strain was isolated. This is the first report on the Sclerotinia rot of P. japonicum Thunb. caused by S. sclerotiorum in Korea.

  • The world's largest nucleon decay experiment facility is constructed at a depth of approximately 1,000 meters, in the Kamio Mine, Japan. The excavated cavern is consisted of a cylinder of 42.4 m high and a semi elliptical dome of 15.2 m high, with a bottom diameter of 40 m. The total excavation volume is approximately $69,000\;m^3$. Because of the character as a large cavern excavation in deep underground, there is many unknown factors in rock mechanics. Based on the results of rock test and numerical analysis, the monitoring of rock mass behavior accompanying progress of construction was performed by various instruments installed in the rock mass surrounding the cavern. The monitoring data was used in the study of measures for cavern stability.

  • Far-ultraviolet IMaging Spectrograph(FIMS) is the main payload of the first Korean scientific satellite, KAISTSTA-4, which will be launched in 2002. The optical system of FIMS consists of parabolic cylinder mirror, slit, ellipsoidal reflection grating, and MCP to get spatial information as well as spectral information. Allowed ranges of manufacturing and positioning error are derived for each optical components to achieve the astronomical goals. In the procedure, graphical simplification is dedicated to understand sensitivity table and to derive range and precision of manipulation for each optical component. The result shows that precision of ${\mu}m$ for linear and of 2' for angular manipulation fulfills optical requirements.

  • Laser diode is used as a crucial part for minimization of terrestrial 3D Laser Scanner. But it has certain limitations such as oval beam shape and inevitable astigmatism. In order to realize a parallel light with beam divergence below 1 mrad, These problems of laser diode can be solved through beam shaping by Pinhole and Aperture. Finally, this study could materialize a collimated beam with 0.3 mrad beam divergence angle and 3mm diameter, that performance and checked by using real manufacture.

  • This study helps out-size consumers purchase ready-made clothes and improve fitness by classifying the lower bodies of abdomen-obese adult males in their 20s and older; in addition, it creates a size system based on each size interval of obesity type. The criteria for the 559 male subjects surveyed in this study were over $25kg/m^2$ of BMI, over 90 cm of waist, and over 0.85 waist hip ratio. The results are as follows. First, the higher the age group, the higher the degree of abdominal obesity in each age group. The degree of obesity then decreases somewhat as their age increases; however, the risk of abdominal obesity also increases. Second, 3 clusters were categorized by cluster analysis, into abdominal obesity, larger oval-type, trapezoid-type and small cylinder-type. Third, the size system establishment according to lower-body types resulted in basic body sizes and reference body sizes being different according to types even in commonly-appeared size names in the sections of respective types. The above research findings show it is necessary to understand obesity types according to waist and hip sizes that represent basic sizes and to design patterns in consideration of the characteristics of obese body shapes when lower-half body clothes are designed among obesity groups.

  • This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of the lower-body shape of middle-aged males with abdominal obesity by type and consider dimensional distribution to present a suit-pants size. The criteria were having a waist circumference greater than 90 cm and a waist-to-hip ratio(WHR) greater than 0.90; a total of 566 middle-aged males were surveyed. The findings revealed that, first, compared to standard lower-body types, the average body size of abdomenobese middle-aged males was significantly larger, especially in the horizontal area than in the vertical ares. Second, through a cluster analysis, a total of three categories of abdominal obesity were defined: small oval, large cylinder, and trapezoid type. The coverage rates of each type were 93.8%, 75.9%, and 93.0%, respectively. Finally, the suit-pants size system established according to lower-body types indicated the basic body size and reference body size were different for each type and also for the KS K 0050 male adult's garments size system. According to the definition of abdominal obesity, the types of abdominal obesity and the dimensions of each area are different, even if they belong to the same obesity group, suggesting that it is necessary to develop a pattern based on the analysis of obesity types.

  • A sclerotinia rot of Water cress (Oenanthe javanica) occurred in the commerical farmers field at Garye-myon, Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, Korea, 2002. The typical symptoms appeared on leaves and stems. At first, the infected leaves or stems turned dark green later become watery soft rotted; white fluffy mycelia grew from the lesion, later formed black sclerotia. Sclerotia on the infected plants and PDA medium were globose to cylindrical or irregular in shape and 1.0~10.7 ${\times}$1.0~7.6 mm in size. Cup-shaped aphothecia with numerous asci were formed from sclerotinia and the size were 0.4~1.6 cm in diameter. Asci with 8 spores were cylindrical and 74~236 ${\times}$ 4.2~24.8 m in size. Ascospores of one cell were hyaline, ellipsoid to ovoid in shape, and 8.3~12.4 ${\times}$ 3.6~7.2 m in size. The optimum temperature for mycelial growth was $25^{\circ}C$ , and sclerotinia forma-tion was between 15~$20^{\circ}C$. On the basis of mycological characteristics and pathogenecity test to host plants, the fungus was identified as Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. This is the first report of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum caused sclerotinia rot on Oenanthe javanica caused by in Korea.
