  • Image segmentation is one of the important processes in the image information extraction for computer vision systems. The fuzzy clustering methods have been extensively used in the image segmentation because it extracts feature information of the region. Most of fuzzy clustering methods have used the Fuzzy C-means(FCM) algorithm. This algorithm can be misclassified about the different size of cluster because the degree of membership depends on highly the distance between data and the centroids of the clusters. This paper proposes a fuzzy clustering algorithm using the Average Intracluster Distance that classifies data uniformly without regard to the size of data sets. The Average Intracluster Distance takes an average of the vector set belong to each cluster and increases in exact proportion to its size and density.   • In this paper, we propose a modified FCM (MFCM) algorithm to solve the problems of the FCM algorithm and the fuzzy clustering algorithm using an average intracluster distance (FCAID). The MFCM algorithm grants the regular grade of membership in the small size of cluster. And it clears up the convergence problem of objective function because its objective function is designed according to the grade of membership of it, verified, and used for clustering data. So, it can solve the problem of the FCM algorithm in different size of cluster and the FCAID algorithm in the convergence problem of objective function. To verify the MFCM algorithm, we compared with the result of the FCM and the FCAID algorithm in data clustering. From the experimental results, the MFCM algorithm has a good performance compared with others by classification entropy.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the objective impact in accuracy and reliability with tendency depend on training samples by using the high-resolution images. Supervised classification was performed based on multi-spectral images which made by each satellite and aerial images for considering all of bands' characteristics. The highest accuracy was 84.7% with satellite image(3*3) and 83% with aerial image(5*5) at the accuracy verification phase. Also, the overall accuracy with the consideration of Kappa coefficient were 0.84 for satellite images and 0.82 for aerial images. In all of the images, the smaller training sample was, the higher accuracy showed. Therefore, tree species classification accuracy was tended to rely on training sample size.

  • To examine the seed morphology in Korean Orobanchaceae, seeds of 5 species including 1 variety in five genera and one related taxon, Boschniakia himalaica Hook. f. & Thomson in Hook. f. from the Himalaya (7 taxa in total) were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Two different seed types are recognized depending on three characters (e.g, .the seed size, seed coat structure and seed number per fruit). - Type I: size less than 1mm, seed coat structure reticulate and seed number per fruit more than ca. 1,000; Type II: size more than 1 mm, exotesta irregularly crested and seed number per fruit less than 1,000 (Lathraea japonicu Miq.). In Type I, three subtypes of exotesta internal surface pattern can also be classified; (1) Subtype Ia: reticulate - include irregularly striate (Ia') and deeply reticulate (Ia"), (2) Subtype Ib: foveolate, (3) Subtype Ic: smooth. Systematics application of the seed morphological data for the Korean Orobanchaceae is also briefly discussed.

  • 본 논문에서는 위상차 현미경 영상 내 U87 세포의 정확한 형태학적 분류를 위한 이진 분류기 구축 방법을 제안한다. 본 방법은 Fourier descriptor 기반 세포형상 표현을 SVM 이진분류기 구축에 사용함으로써 분류 대상인 원추형과 원형세포에 대해 영상 내 세포의 위치와 회전, 크기의 변화에 대해 강인한 분류성능을 제공한다. 본 실험을 통해 polynomial 커널에서 학습된 SVM 분류기가 linear, RBF, sigmoid 에 비교하여 가장 정확한 분류 성능을 보임을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 논문상 기준인 두 종류의 세포 형태 분류기를 기반 프레임워크로 삼아 좀더 다양한 세포 형태를 분류할 수 있도록 개선된다면 악성뇌종양의 전이억제치료에 효과적인 전이행동분석에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Document Image Layout Analysis Using Image Filters and Constrained Conditions (이미지 필터와 제한조건을 이용한 문서영상 구조분석)

  • Document image layout analysis contains the process to segment document image into detailed regions and the process to classify the segmented regions into text, picture, table or etc. In the region classification process, the size of a region, the density of black pixels, and the complexity of pixel distribution are the bases of region classification. But in case of picture, the ranges of these bases are so wide that it's difficult to decide the classification threshold between picture and others. As a result, the picture has a higher region classification error than others. In this paper, we propose document image layout analysis method which has a better performance for the picture and text region classification than that of previous methods including commercial softwares. In the picture and text region classification, median filter is used in order to reduce the influence of the size of a region, the density of black pixels, and the complexity of pixel distribution. Futhermore the classification error is corrected by the use of region expanding filter and constrained conditions.

A Systematic Study of Elsholtzia Willd. (Lamiaceae) in Korea (한국산 향유속(Elsholtzia Willd., 꿀풀과)의 분류학적 연구)

  • Examined were the vegetative and reproductive characters such as external morphology, anatomy (leaf petiole, blade and stem), pollen and nutlet for the taxonomic revision of Elsholtzia in Korea. The inflorescence of all studied taxa of Elsholtzia in Korea is secund and 0.5-10 cm long. Leaves are ovate or nearly and $0.2-10{\times}0.2-6.0cm$. The shapes of inflorescence and leaves are very useful taxonomic characters. The stomata types are anomocytic and diacytic. The morphology of nutlet is ovoid and pitted in surface pattern of exocarp. All studied taxa are myxocarpy. The pollen grains are of medium size and subprolate in shape, and have typical bi-reticulate exine surface. Four species are recognized for Korean Elsholtzia by the identification key and descriptions in this study.

  • 1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ 이하의 환경 나노입자는 대표적인 대기오염물질로 알려져 있고, 대기환경뿐만 아니라 호흡기 장애나 암을 유발시키는 등 인체에도 나쁜 영향을 미친다. 그러므로, 공기 중에 부유하는 환경 나노입자의 측정 및 평가는 매우 중요하다. 최근에는 대기 에어로졸의 입경별 질량농도분포 측정에 다단 임팩터가 널리 사용되고 있으며, 신뢰할 수 있는 데이터를 얻기 위해서는 임팩터의 입자채취 특성을 정확히 파악해야 한다.(지준호 등, 2001) 이러한 임팩터는 입자의 관성을 이용하여 입자크기를 분류하므로 주로 크기가 1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ 이상인 조대입자의 분류에 사용되었으나, 최근 1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ 이하의 나노입자에 대한 관심이 높아짐에 따라 저압이나 미세 오리피스를 사용하여 미세입자를 분류할 수 있는 임팩터가 개발되어 널리 사용되고 있다.   • In this paper, pyramidal VQ image coding by DCT classifier based on HVS is studied. The proposed DCT classifier based on HVS is that the transform subblocks of the image are mlultiplied by MTF which is a sort of band pass filter and sorted by the magnitude of their ac energy levels and classifeid into three classes such as low, middle and high variance class by the threshold and then edges are detected in comparison of the energy sum of ac transform coefficients corresponding to the different edge directions.
