Implementation of the Realtime Learning Evaluation System and Interaction for Smart Learning (스마트러닝을 위한 실시간 학습평가 및 상호작용 시스템 구현)

  • We developed a system which supports the functions of real-time evaluation and feedback for smart learning. The system is consisted of an application for tablet PC and smart phone and the server, and the client exchanges data with the server through wireless communication. Whereby, the proposed system enabled realtime interaction and feedback between learner and teacher or between learners. As a result, the instruction for each learner's level is available using the system, and then it could enhance the level of academic achievement and learning interest.

  • Distance learning systems that teacher and learner(s) are located at remote have been in progress in a way that directly transfer the video and audio. To get the interest of learners and effectiveness of education or to overcome the poor network environment, various methods utilizing computer graphics in the distance learning system have been attempted. This paper describes a design and implementation of a distance learning system using 3D animation control technology based on Kinect and network game technology. Distance learning system designed and implemented in this paper is a good example of combining education and game technology. And I expect to be used at various educational contents in the future.

The Effects of Chemistry Class Using Computer-Based Science Inquiry Program on Positive Experiences about Science, Science Core Competency, and Academic Achievement (컴퓨터 기반 과학 탐구 프로그램을 활용한 화학 수업이 과학 긍정경험, 과학과 핵심역량 및 학업성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of learning using computer-based science inquiry program. To this end, the three lessons computer-based science inquiry were developed in domain of material's properties. The developed program was put into K middle school located in Seoul and the effects were verified. For the experimental group, the three lessons computer-based science inquiry related to the separation of mixture were introduced, and for the comparison group, the contents presented in the textbook were introduced as a teacher-centered teaching method. To verify the effects of the program, 2-way ANCOVA was performed on positive experiences about science and science core competency, and 2-way ANOVA was performed on academic achievement. As a result of the study, there were significant differences between the two groups in positive experiernces about science and scientific core competencies and academic achievement (p<.05), and group*gender interaction effect was only significant in academic achievement (p<.05). From the results of this study, we could see the possibility of using a computer-based science inquiry program as a chemistry teaching method that enables sustainable scientific inquiry.

An Analysis on effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning in Web 2.0 Environment (웹 2.0 기반의 문제중심학습의 효과)

  • This paper explores effectiveness of integrating Problem-Based Learning with Web 2.0 technologies in Computer subject matter education for improving quality of lessons and adapting of social needs for pre-service teachers. Students have studied about computer subject matter for 4 times. The process of leaning have recorded by Web 2.0 tools that is one of the cloud services. Also the students have written reflection journals about experiences of PBL process and results. The PBL process and reflection journals have been analyzed by qualitative data analysis. Conclusions are drawn as to potential for the use of Web 2.0 tools for PBL in computer subject matter. The results of the analyses showed the following: 1) Increasing the understanding of the computer subject matter education, 2) enhancing students' competence in using ICT potentially, 3) cultivating teaching and learning strategies on Web 2.0 environment and 4) enhancing competence of future teaching activities through experiencing e-portfolio as a performance-assessment tool.

  • In this paper, we introduce an analysis system for answer dataset by using a data mining method. We analyze students' answer data collected from a test including multiple choice question items, and find associations between the items. Analysis of evaluation results based on our system will not only provide correct information on students' achievement levels but also provides a basis for modifying weaknesses of the evaluation procedures, question items, or teaching/learning procedures. Furthermore, it will enable us to improve the quality of question items for future use so that we can secure itemsets of high quality.

Analysis of Research Trends and Learners' Preference for Subject Area of SW Education Content (SW 교육 콘텐츠의 주제 영역에 대한 연구 동향과 학습자 선호 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze research trends and the learners' preference for subject area of SW education content. First, we analyzed trends in the subject areas of various SW education contents in recent research literature, textbooks, and textbooks. Based on this, we defined six subject areas as storytelling, game, media art, educational learning contents, simulation. Also, we analyzed the case of college students based on the reason of SW implementation theme selection, selection method, and preference theme. As a result, the students were mainly influenced by their interests and teachers in the reason of topic selection, and they showed higher preference in game and storytelling subject area. We hope that this research will be reflected in balanced SW education contents design according to learner level in the future.

  • In this study, we have designed and established a formative evaluation system which provides the web-based corrective feedback in the current situation that the importance of feedback as well as the formative evaluation is getting highlighted in the course of learning and instruction. This system is composed of three types of corrective feedback. The first one is the informations providing feedback by stage. It provides the explanations or the correct answers-related informations for the wrong answered questions by stage and directly. The second one is the error corrective feedback, which provides the informations about the reasons of the errors on each wrong answered question so that the learner can correct his errors. Lastly, the corrective feedback by the accumulated marks shows the learner's total marks and their wrong answered questions to enable the learner to learn for themselves. We analyzed how these three corrective feedback effects on the learning achievement after applying them to learners, and testified the type of the most effective corrective feedback in enhancing the degree of learning achievement.

  • In this paper a web-based real-time education system, which is able to support education through multimedia, is suggested for the expansion of learner's creative ability in the school. This system is designed so that it can support three things: 1) a real time interaction between instructors and learners, 2) individual learning through such an interaction, and 3) a coercive distribution of display by instructions for preventing the deviation of learners from learning. Also, this system, which UML is applied to, makes efficient interaction possible through the module for the real-time exchange and management of messages even in the multi-user environment. Through this system, not only the simulation by learners can be made for experiments and practices, but also Questions and respondence can be supported on the procedure of experiments and the analysis of their results. This system is built on constructivism, and aimed at helping the learning progress and knowledge formation of learners.

Study on the Teaching/Learning Methodology in WBI (웹 기반 학습에서의 교수-학습 방법에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we develope a WBI(Web Base Instruction) program to do the student oriented learning using WWW and analyze the result. The 127 students who took part in the experiment were divided into two groups, an experimental group of 85 subjects and a comparative group of 42 subjects. This experiment was performed for four periods, and a formative test was conducted to measure achievement for two groups. The average and the standard deviation of scores for the experimental group are 84.9 and 16.82 respectively, and the comparative group 77.5 and 14.39. Experimental results shows that the academic achievement for the experimental group is more significant than that of the comparative group at the 0.0024(P$\le$0.05)of the result "t-test" under the 91~95$\%$ confidence interval of the level of significance. This fact says that practicing the WBI programming has an effect on the improvement of the students' academic achievement.hievement.

  • The purpose of the study was to explore the potential of the Social Network Analysis as an analytical tool for scientific investigation of learner-learner, or learner-tutor interaction within an e-Learning environment. Theoretical and methodological implication of the Social Network Analysis had been discussed. Following theoretical analysis, an exploratory empirical study was conducted to test statistical correlation between traditional performance measures such as achievement and team contribution index, and the centrality measure, one of the many quantitative measures the Social Network Analysis provides. Results indicate the centrality measure was correlated with the higher order learning performance and peer-evaluated contribution indices. An interpretation of the results and their implication to instructional design theory and practices were provided along with some suggestions for future research.
