  • An aerial multi-looking camera system equips itself with five separate cameras which enables acquiring one vertical image and four oblique images at the same time. This provides diverse information about the site compared to aerial photographs vertically. The geometric relationship of oblique cameras and a vertical camera can be modelled by 6 exterior orientation parameters. Once the relationship between the vertical camera and each oblique camera is determined, the exterior orientation parameters of the oblique images can be calculated by the exterior orientation parameters of the vertical image. In order to examine the exterior orientation of both a vertical camera and each oblique cameras in the multi-looking camera relatively, calibration targets were installed in a lab and 14 images were taken from three image stations by tilting and rotating a non-metric digital camera. The interior orientation parameters of the camera and the exterior orientation parameters of the images were estimated. The exterior orientation parameters of the oblique image with respect to the vertical image were calculated relatively by the exterior orientation parameters of the images and error propagation of the orientation angles and the position of the projection center was examined.

  • This paper proposes method for determining exterior orientation parameters (EOPs) from the RPC mathematical camera model of the satellite image. SPOT satellite stereo pair is pre-tested using the proposed method. As results that, geopositioning errors are similar with those of the original EOPs. Differences between EOPs determined from the RPC and original EOPs were small. IKONOS Geo-level stereo pair is tested by the proposed method. Results of this method are compared with those of the RPC block adjustment method which have been verified in reported studies. Consequently, the proposed method showed accuracy similar to the RPC block adjustment method. The digital elevation models (DEMs) of sample area acquired by the two method almost did not have a difference.

  • A novel method to register images onto 3D data, such as 3D point cloud, 3D vectors, and 3D surfaces, is proposed. The proposed method estimates the exterior orientation of a camera with respective to the 3D data though fitting pairs of the normal vectors of two planes passing a focal point and 2D and 3D lines extracted from an image and the 3D data, respectively. The fitting condition is that the angle between each pair of the normal vectors has to be zero. This condition can be represented as a numerical formula using the inner product of the normal vectors. This paper demonstrates the proposed method can estimate the exterior orientation for the image registration as simulation tests.

  • To determine 3D(three-dimensional) positions using a stereo-camera in close-range photogrammetry, camera calibration to determine not only the interior orientation parameters of each camera but also the relative orientation parameters between the cameras must be preceded. As time passes after performing camera calibration, in the case of non-metric cameras, the interior and relative orientation parameters may change due to internal instability or external factors. In this study, to evaluate the stability of the stereo-camera, not only the stability of two single cameras and a stereo-camera were analyzed, but also the three-dimensional position accuracy was evaluated using checkpoints. As a result of evaluating the stability of two single cameras through three camera calibration experiments over four months, the root mean square error was ±0.001mm, and the root mean square error of the stereo-camera was ±0.012mm ~ ±0.025mm, respectively. In addition, as the results of distance accuracy using the checkpoint were ±1mm, the interior and relative orientation parameters of the stereo-camera were considered stable over that period.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare algorithms of single photo resection, which determines the exterior orientation parameters used in fields such as photogrammetry, computer vision, robotics, etc. To this end, the algorithms were compared by generating experimental data by simulating terrain based on a camera used in aerial and close-range photogrammetry. Through experiments on aerial photographic camera that was taken almost vertically, it was possible to determine the exterior orientation parameters using three ground control points, but the Procrustes algorithm was sensitive to the configuration of the ground control points. Even in experiments with a close-range amateur camera where the attitude angles of the camera change significantly, the algorithm was sensitive to the configuration of the ground control points, and the other algorithms required at least six ground control points. Through experiments with two types of cameras, it was found that cosine lawbased spatial resection shows performance similar to that of a traditional photogrammetry algorithm because the number of iterations is short and no explicit initial values are required.

  • Recently, multispectral cameras are being actively utilized in various application fields such as agriculture, forest management, coastal environment monitoring, and so on, particularly onboard UAV's. Resultant multispectral images are typically georeferenced primarily based on the onboard GPS (Global Positioning System) and IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit)or accurate positional information of the pixels, or could be integrated with ground control points that are directly measured on the ground. However, due to the high cost of establishing GCP's prior to the georeferencing or for inaccessible areas, it is often required to derive the positions without such reference information. This study aims to provide a means to improve the georeferencing performance of a multispectral camera images without involving such ground reference points, but instead with the simultaneously onboard high resolution RGB camera. The exterior orientation parameters of the drone camera are first estimated through the bundle adjustment, and compared with the reference values derived with the GCP's. The results showed that the incorporation of the images from a high resolution RGB camera greatly improved both the exterior orientation estimation and the georeferencing of the multispectral camera. Additionally, an evaluation performed on the direction estimation from a ground point to the sensor showed that inclusion of RGB images can reduce the angle errors more by one order.

  • In this paper, a camera modeling method that utilizes ephemeris data and imaging geometry is presented. The proposed method constructs a mathematical model only with parameters that are contained in the leader file and does not require any ground control points for model construction. Control points are only needed to eliminate geolocation error of the model that is originated from errors in the parameters that are used in model construction. With few (one or two) of control points, RMS error of less than pixel size can be obtained and control points are not necessarily uniformly distributed over the entire scene. This advantage is crucial in large project and will enable to reduce project cost dramatically.

  • Investigation is given to the detailed procedure of a computer assisted automatic correction for scanning errors of the digital images of close-range photographs scanned by the CCD camera scanner. After determination of the exterior orientation parameters, photo coordinates of the all pixels were calculated using collinearity equation. For the generation of geometric corrected image from the photo coordinates of the all pixels, inverse-weighted-distance average method was used. And the accuracy of the resulting new image was checked comparing its image coordinates with there corresponding ground coordinates for the check points.

  • This study is to measure 3d deformation of railroad-bridge of steel structure using the non-metric high-resolution digital camera. Measuring the deformation is to be utilized relative orientation using the coplanarity for reduction of the field survey and efficiency of the work. The results are compared with deformation by exterior orientation parameters, which are computed from 3d measurement of control points by the Total-station. Then accuracy of the utilized method will be verified.
