Fast Light Source Estimation Technique for Effective Synthesis of Mixed Reality Scene (효과적인 혼합현실 장면 생성을 위한 고속의 광원 추정 기법)

  • One of the fundamental elements in developing mixed reality applications is to effectively analyze and apply the environmental lighting information to image synthesis. In particular, interactive applications require to process dynamically varying lighting sources in real-time, reflecting them properly in rendering results. Previous related works are not often appropriate for this because they are usually designed to synthesize photorealistic images, generating too many, often exponentially increasing, light sources or having too heavy a computational complexity. In this paper, we present a fast light source estimation technique that aims to search for primary light sources on the fly from a sequence of video images taken by a camera equipped with a fisheye lens. In contrast to previous methods, our technique can adust the number of found light sources approximately to the size that a user specifies. Thus, it can be effectively used in Phong-illumination-model-based direct illumination or soft shadow generation through light sampling over area lights.

A Study on Developing Intersection Dilemma Zone Evaluation Model (교차로 딜레마 구간 위험도 평가 모델에 관한 연구)

  • This study focuses on development of a risk level evaluation model for the intersection dilemma zone based on vehicle speed distribution approaching the intersection. The study results show that dilemma zone exists for all approaches selected for the study because the values of amber time have not been properly set, and that re-optimized values significantly reduce the dilemma zone risk level. It is also found that when normal distribution is assumed for vehicle approach speed the risk values similar to those for actual speed distributions can be obtained. When the risk level is found to be high, the amber time must be adjusted to reduce the length of the dilemma zone, or speed calming measures must be introduced so that vehicle speed be maintained under the speed value used when determining the amber time.

  • Augmented Reality (AR) enables the enhanced realism and interaction by providing the overlaid digital information on the user's view of the physical world. In this paper, we propose an AR-based ship design visualization system for presenting ship 3D model in smart phones or table PCs. The proposed system compute corner points and feature points by contour finding method and harris corner detector, and build a ship-design drawing database. By using SURF algorithm, key feature points are extracted from ship-design drawing image which is obtained by mobile camera. Then ship-design drawing image is recognized by matching the feature points stored in DB and extracted key feature points. 3D ship structures are visualized by overlaying the ship-design drawing image on the smart phone or table PC's screen. Compared to conventional 2D ship-design, proposed system helps to easily understand the structures of the ship and reduce the business design period. Thus, Enhanced competitiveness of business is expected.

  • Recently, it is important to process multimedia data efficiently. Especially, in case of retrieval of multimedia information, technique of user interface and retrieval technique are necessary. This paper proposes a new technique which detects cuts effectively in compressed image information by MPEG. A cut is a turning point of scenes. The cut-detection is the basic work and the first-step for video indexing and retrieval. Existing methods have a weak point that they detect wrong cuts according to change of a screen such as fast motion of an object, movement of a camera and a flash. Because they compare between previous frame and present frame. The proposed technique detects shots at first using DC(Direct Current) coefficient of DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform). The database is composed of these detected shots. Features are extracted by HMMD color model and edge histogram descriptor(EHD) among the MPEG-7 visual descriptors. And detections are performed in sequence by the proposed matching technique. Through this experiments, an improved video segmentation system is implemented that it performs more quickly and precisely than existing techniques have.

  • Recently, the technologies related to autonomous drive has studying the goal for safe operation and prevent accidents of vehicles. There is radar and camera technologies has used to detect obstacles in these autonomous vehicle research. Now a day, the method for using LiDAR sensor has considering to detect nearby objects and accurately measure the separation distance in the autonomous navigation. It is calculates the distance by recognizing the time differences between the reflected beams and it allows precise distance measurements. But it also has the disadvantage that the recognition rate of object in the atmospheric environment can be reduced. In this paper, point cloud data by triangular functions and Line Regression model are used to implement measurement algorithm, that has improved detecting objects in real time and reduce the error of measuring separation distances based on improved reliability of raw data from LiDAR sensor. It has verified that the range of object detection errors can be improved by using the Python imaging library.

Rain Detection and Removal Algorithm using Motion-Compensated Non-local Means Filter for Video Sequences (동영상을 위한 움직임 보상 기반 Non-Local Means 필터를 이용한 우적 검출 및 제거 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes a rain detection and removal algorithm that is robust against camera motion in video sequences. In detection part, the proposed algorithm initially detects possible rain streaks by using intensity properties and spatial properties. Then, the rain streak candidates are selected based on Gaussian distribution model. In removal part, a non-rain block matching algorithm is performed between adjacent frames to find similar blocks to the block that has rain pixels. If the similar blocks to the block are obtained, the rain region of the block is reconstructed by non-local means (NLM) filter using the similar neighbors. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the previous works in terms of subjective visual quality of de-rained video sequences.

  • 오늘날 시장에 유통되는 버섯은 대부분 환경이 조절되는 시설 내부에서 재배된다. 버섯은 다른 식물과 달리 버섯의 종류, 품종 등에 따라 요구되는 환경이 매우 다르다. 특히 대부분의 버섯은 버섯이 생육되는 공간의 온도, 수분, 이산화탄소, 조도 등의 관리가 필수적이다. 버섯의 단위면적당 생산량을 극대화하기 위해서는 이들 버섯이 필요로 하는 환경을 버섯의 생육특성에 따라 적합하게 유지해 주어야만 한다. 현재 대부분의 버섯재배사에는 이들 환경을 컨트롤하는 장치가 설치되어 있고, 이들 시스템의 환경 설정은 농업인이 현장에서 버섯의 상태를 확인 한 후 그때그때 경험에 의해 채득한 정보를 기반으로 환경설정을 하고 있는 실정이다. 이렇다 보니 버섯을 재배하는 기간에는 농업인이 재배사 내부의 환경을 관리하기 위해서 항상 버섯재배사에 머물러야 하고, 재배사의 환경관리 때문에 원거리 또는 장기 출타가 어려운 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 기존에 사람이 버섯재배 현장에서 컨트롤하던 환경관리를 원격에서 컴퓨터 또는 모바일로 구현할 수 있는 시스템을 개발하였다. 시스템에서 모니터링 및 제어하는 환경은 온도, 습도, 이산화탄소, 배기팬 및 입기팬의 가동 등 버섯재배 환경관리에 필요한 모든 요소를 모니터링 및 관리할 수 있도록 하였다. 이들 관리 요소는 인터넷이 연결된 컴퓨터에 접속하여 버섯재배사의 환경을 실시간으로 모니터링 하고 필요에 따라 제어를 할 수 있도록 하였다. 또한 컴퓨터에서 볼 수 있는 환경을 스마트폰을 통해서도 볼 수 있고 또한 제어할 수 있도록 하였다. 그리고 버섯배지를 입상 한 후부터 수확시기까지의 관리 환경을 데이터베이스로 만들어 농민이 버섯배지를 입상하고 데이터베이스와 연동한 제어가 되도록 설정하면 버섯재배사 내부의 환경은 데이터베이스의 정보를 읽어 들여 버섯의 생육단계에 따라 자동으로 내부환경이 제어되도록 하였다. 또한 농업인이 원격에서 버섯재배사 내부 버섯의 생육상황을 모니터링 할 수 있도록 재배사 상부에 CCD 카메라를 달아 실시간으로 버섯의 생육상활을 모니터링 할 수 있도록 구성하였다. 이와 같은 시스템을 사용하면 버섯재배 경험이 없는 농업인도 경험자와 같은 재배관리가 가능하고 원격에서 재배사 내부환경을 모니터링하고 제어 할 수 있기 때문에 농업인이 재배사에 매여 있지않아도 될 것으로 판단된다.

  • Cellular network evolution and development of multi-function cellular phones introduce new mobile business mode. Cellular operators provide mobile internet services using the mobile browser such as ME and WAP and the mobile multimedia platform such as WIPI, J2ME, and BREW. New mobile applications are developed using mobile platforms provided by cellular operators as cellular phones having multimedia solutions such as camera, MP3, MPEG, 3D game engine, DMB, PAN such as bluetooth, IrDA, W-LAN, and location information using GPS are developed. Content providers have problems of redevelopment of a mobile application for different mobile platforms. In this paper, we propose a conversion solution for interoperability of applications developed on different mobile platforms of WIPI and BREW. We analyze APIs of WIPI and BREW and develop conversion solutions.

K-Retinex Algorithm for Fast Back-Light Compensation (역광 사진의 빠른 보정을 위한 Retinex 알고리즘의 성능 개선)

  • This paper presents an enhanced algorithm for compensating the visual quality in back-light image. Current cameras do not represent all details of scene into human's eye. Saturation and underexposure are common problems in back-light image. Retinex algorithm, derived from Land's theory on human visual perception is known to be effective in enhancing the contrast. However, its weaknesses are long processing time and low contrast of bright area in back-light scene because of compensating the details of dark area. In this paper, K-Retinex algorithm is proposed to reduce the processing time and enhance the contrast in both dark and bright area. To show the superiority of proposed algorithm, we compare the processing time, local standard deviation and contrast per pixel of each area above.

An optomechanical study of large mirrors for satellites (위성용 대구경 반사경의 광 기계변형 연구)

  • Optical payloads for earth-observation satellites become bigger as the required resolution becomes finer. For example, the diameter of the primary mirror of IKONOS, which has ground sampling distances of 1m/4m in panchromatic/multi spectral bands, is about 700mm. As the size of optical payload becomes bigger, the light-weighting of the mirrors becomes more significant. This paper presents the FEM results of the following four mirror types of 300 m diameter under gravity release and temperature changes: flat back mirror, single arch mirror, double arch mirror, and honeycomb sandwich mirror. Furthermore, this paper extends the FEM results to larger mirrors up to the diameter of 1m based on a general scaling law and Valenete\`s equation.
