A study on fatigue properties of plasma carburized low carbon Cr-Mo steel (플라즈마 침탄한 저탄소 Cr-Mo강의 피로특성에 관한 연구)

  • The carburizing behavior and fatigue properties of the plasma carburized low carbon Cr-Mo steel(0.176C-1.014Cr-0.387Mo) have been investigated. The effective case depth in plasma carburized steel increased up to 50% in comparison with that of gas carburizing, and this case depth increased with the increasing surface carbon content. With increasing time in plasma carburizing, the surface carbon content increased but its increasing rate decreased. Fatigue properties were studied in terms of microstructure, case depth, retained austenite and residual stress near the surface. The fatigue limit of the plasma carburized steel was higher than that of gas carburized one. The initiation of microcracks and initial crack propagation were retarded due to a relatively little surface and internal oxidation layer in plasma carburized steel. Fractography showed the crack initiated at the surface, and transgranular fracture at surface layer was more predominant in plasma carburized steel compared to that of gas carburized steel.

  • Vacuum carburizing is supposed to be the superior process to the gas carburizing. However, the vacuum carburizing has the stage in which hydrocarbon gas is supplied into the furnace to be pyrolysis, and consequently the stable heat treatment is hard to achieve due to the soot from the hydrocarbon pyrolysis. Recently, many studies have been made which utilize acetylene gas to overcome this defects. In this paper, the carburizing and the diffusion periods have been selected based on the Harris experimental formula, and the mechanical properties of the vacuum carburized specimen have been compared with those of the gas carburized SCM415H specimen to identify the feasibility of the $CO_2$ free vacuum carburizing process. The result showed that the vacuum carburized materials used have no oxidization of the grain boundaries, and show the 29.8% higher effective hardness depth and the acceptable tensile strength.

  • 스테인리스강을 침탄 또는 질화처리 하면 내식성이 크게 떨어진다. 하지만 처리 온도를 충분히 낮게 하면 내식성의 저하 없이 표면 경도를 증가시킬 수 있다. 침탄처리 후 질화 처리를 연속적으로 수행하면, 두꺼운 경화층을 가지고, 침탄처리한 표면보다 높은 경도를 가질 수 있다. 이 논문에서는 침탄처리 후 질화 처리시, Ar을 주입하여 질화층 형성에 주는 영향을 조사 하였다. Ar의 양이 20%보다 낮은 경우 석출물이 거의 형성되지 않았으며, Ar의 양이 증가할수록 표면경도도 증가하였다.

Diagnosis of Carburized Degradation in Cracking Tube by Ultrasonic Wave (초음파에 의한 열분해관의 침탄열화도 진단)

  • The ultrasonic method, which is well known as non-destructive test method, is widely used to evaluate the material damage caused by degradation practically. However, this method is just used for measuring the crack size and the thickness loss of tube. The purpose of this study is to investigate the applicability of the ultrasonic technique for the evaluation of carburized material and to suggest the correlations between the ultrasonic characteristics and carburized degradation. The miniaturized specimens($40{\times}20{\times}6.3mm$) are adopted from the HK-40 (25Cr-20Ni-0.4C) centrifugal cast tube after carburization treatment. Carburization was carried at $1200^{\circ}C$ by the pack method. The results of ultrasonic test present that the longitudinal wave velocity increased with the increase of carburized depth. The correlation between the longitudinal wave velocity and carburization was changed with the density and Young's modulus. Therefore, the average velocity in the materials carburized for 336 hours and the unused one were 5,840 m/s and 5,755 m/s at 5 MHz, respectively. With the obtained results from this study, it can be recognized that the technique using the ultrasonic velocity property is very useful method to evaluate the degree of carburized material non-destructively.

  • This research was conducted to analyze the effects of temperature on coking characteristics of kerosene. The kerosene was heated to 600 K, 700 K, and 800 K, and the cooled samples were collected. The used copper tubes were replaced according to the temperature conditions. The liquid and copper specimens were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and scanning electron microscopy equipped with an energy dispersive x-ray spectrometer, respectively. The results of the analysis confirmed that a carbon deposit was formed from the coking of fuel on the inner surface of the copper specimen at a relatively high temperature (800 K) of the copper tube.

  • 현재 활용되고 있는 침탄질화기술과 QT + 저온 플라즈마 침질탄화 기술로 소재의 표면특성을 향상시켜 상대적인 비교를 위해 미세조직, 경도, XRD, GDS 및 Wear Test를 실시하였다. 비교결과 확산층에서의 경도는 침탄처리한 시편이 상대적으로 높았지만, 표면경도 및 Wear Test의 경우 QT+플라즈마 침질탄화처리한 시편이 더 좋은 결과를 보였다.

  • 일반적으로 기계구조물에서는 비교적 응력확대계수 K의 해석이 용이한 판 두께를 관통하는 관통크랙보다는 표면에 존재하는 결함에서 발생, 전파하는 표면 크랙이 대부분이다. 표면은 내부보다 소성변형에 대한 저항이 작고, 대기에 직접 접해 있으며, 평활재에 있어서의 인장, 압축이외의 응력은 일반적으로 표면에서 최대가 되는 등의 이유로 내부보다 쉽게 피로재해를 받는다. 침탄질화 열처리를 하는 중요한 목적이 재료 표면에 있어서 경화능과 피로강도의 향상이므로 침탄질화 처리재의 표면 크랙에 관한 연구가 절실히 요구됨은 당연하다.

  • Gas침탄질화처리 후 20Cr-2Ni-4A, 25Mn-Ti-B-Re, 20Cr-Mn-Ti 3가지 다성분강에서의 Ms온도를 계산하는 방법이 개발되어 왔으며, 결과적으로 각각의 gas 침탄질화층에 있는 잔류 austenite의 양이 계산될 수 있다. 이렇게 계산된 결과는 전형적인 실험 결과와 좋은 일치를 보이며, 그 예로서 En 354 강에서 침탄층을 통한 Ms 온도 분포가 계산되어진다.
