A 5-year-old male Chihuahua with oral discomfort due to the presence of a maxillary acanthomatous epulis was referred to the acupuncture service at the Veterinary Medical Center of the University of Florida. For the patient, acupuncture treatments were performed for 11 sessions, at 1 month intervals with Chinese herbal medicine. The acupuncture points and Chinese herbal medicine used were selected based on TCM principles. The selected acupoints were Zusanli(ST36), Fenglong(ST40), Gongsun(SP4), Sanyinjiao(SP6), Pishu(BL20), Weishu(BL21), Taichang(LIV3), and Baihui(GV20). In addition, the Chinese herbal formulas Nei Xiao Wan and Si Jun Zi Tang were chosen. After one year of acupuncture and administration of Chinese herbal medicine, the acanthomatous epulis was remarkably decreased in size. It is considered that the use of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine would be useful treatments of canine acanthomatous epulis.
Thr rickets or osteomalacia, that was induced by nonendocrine osseous or soft tissue tumor, is extremely rare disease and fourteen patients has been reported since 1947. The real nature of this disease is unknown, but postulated that unknown phosphaturic subtance which was elaborated from the tumor affect the renal tubule and produce hypophosphatemia and failure of calcification of osseous tissue. This case presented is that of 41-year-old man who suffered from severe generalized aching pain, severe muscular dystrophy, and shortening of the stature 4 years prior hospitalization. The causal coexisting tumor is walnut sized peripheral giant cell granuloma on the upper gingiva. After surgical removal of the tumor, patient's biochemical findings of the serum and urine were returned to the normal limits 12 days later, and clinical symptoms were marked relieved at 6 weeks later. The dental radiograms which were obtained 4 months later revealed remarkable bone regeneration and newly formed alveolar lamina dura.
Plasmacytoma is one of the malignant neoplasm that originate in immunoglobulin-producing plasma cell, and occurrence in gingiva is known to be rare. About 7% of all patients with plasma cell malignancies present with solitary lesions in bone or soft tissues. In 30% to 40% of patients, the disease progresses to mulitiple myeloma on long-term follow-up. the incidence of progression to multiple myeloma is higher in patients with a bone lesion as compared with an extramedullary lesion. Several studies have shown a relatively favorable course for both these groups of patients, but many long-term studies have demonstrated the distinct difference in ultimate prognosis between patients with solitary lesions in bone and those with extramedullary lesions. The primary objective in the past has been to suppress the immune system to permit allotransplantation. But immunosuppressant also increases the incidence of malignant neoplasms in patients after allograft transplantation. We treated a 15-year patient with plasmacytoma on gingiva who had received kindny transplantation & immunosuppressant therapy. We excised this lesion & performed radiotherapy and had a favorable result.

The hemangioma, a benign proliferation of blood vessel, is the most common tumor of infancy and childhood. In many instances, the lesion probably represents a hamartoma or malformation rather than a true neoplasm. In the oral cavity, common sites are lips, followed by tongue, buccal mucosa and palate. Clinical characteristics appear as a flat or raised reddish-blue lesion and are generally solitary. They are classified on the basis of their histological appearance into capillary, mixed, cavernous or a sclerosing variety. A 6-year-old male of this case was referred to the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Chonnam National University with a chief complaint of swelling lesion on gingiva. The strawberry appearance mass was detected by clinical examination on attached gingiva at the upper left primary lateral incisor and canine. Surgical excision and biopsy were carried out for histological examination and the lesion was diagnosed with a capillary hemangioma. The risk of recurrence after this therapy is rare, and there is no malignant transformation. Despite their benign origins and behaviour, hemangiomas in the region of oral cavity are always clinically important to the dental profession because of bleeding tendency.

The soft tissue tumors that occur commonly in newborn infants include palatal and gingival cyst of the newborn, congenital epulis, hemangioma, teratoma, pyogenic granuloma, and irritation fibroma. Such soft tissue tumors in the alveolar ridge of newborns are usually treated by surgical excision. If untreated, they can cause airway obstruction and breathing difficulty due to aspiration. They also cause discomfort during oral feeding. If nasal feeding is tried, since vomitting is impossible, there is a risk of aspiration pneumonia. In this case, a newborn infant visited our hospital with soft tissue tumor as chief complaint, and the infant was treated by surgical excision. It appeared to be similar to pyogenic granuloma and irritation fibroma upon histologic exam. However, it was different from those diseases since multinucleated giant cells were observed and it was congenital. The pathologic process of this neoplasm is not clear. This case is reported, since it is difficult to classify it as a specific disease.

Burkitt lymphoma (BL) is an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin's B-cell lymphoma found primarily in the pediatric population. In the oral cavity, this tumor can grow rapidly and often brings about facial swelling or development of an exophytic mass involving the jaws. A 5-year-old boy was referred for swelling and pain in the left mandibular area. The patient showed diffuse swelling on the left side of the mandible and firm-moderate tenderness upon palpation. An intraoral examination showed moderate mobility and sensitivity to percussion on the left primary first and second molars, without severe caries. A radiographic examination revealed complete loss of the lamina dura on the left primary second molar and permanent first molar. There was a radiolucent osteolytic lesion and destruction of the cortical bone of the left mandibular body. Based on the clinical, radiographic, and immunohistochemical findings, the patient was diagnosed with BL, and was referred to a pediatrician for systemic evaluation and intensive chemotherapy. Even before the completion of chemotherapy, the swelling resolved and the displaced teeth were relocated to a normal position. This patient showed a good prognosis due to prompt diagnosis and intensive chemotherapy. Early diagnosis and referral for treatment can prevent the development of BL.

Burkitt's lymphoma is a malignant tumor originated from B lymphocyte and a type of non-hodgkin lymphoma. It is clinically classified by endemic, sporadic and immune deficient forms. In the past, it had poor prognosis but in recent years survival rate is 50~80% treated by intensive chemotherapeutic regimens. Mostly it is a lesion of the jaws. Clinical symptoms are severe tooth mobility, displacement, gingival redness and swelling. This case is about a patient with aggressively progressing Burkitt's lymphoma of the jaws. Initial diagnosis was done in dental hospital and it has shown satisfactory outcome by prompt and appropriate treatment.
A mass was detected in the oral cavity from a 18-year-old female miniature poodle dog. Grossly, the mass was soft to hard, red to purple, and $1.5{\times}1.5{\times}1cm$ in size. Histopathologically, the mass was composed of hyperplastic gingival epithelium, well-vascularized stroma, closely packed pleomorphic cells, and numerous giant cells with multiple nuclei and abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm. Immunohistochemically, tumor cells were positive for alkaline phosphatase and cytokeratin 7, but not positive for CD68 unlike in human. The mass was diagnosed to peripheral giant cell granuloma in oral cavity through typical clinical and histopathological features.
A 16-year-old, spayed female, Maltese dog weighing 4.3 kg was presented with a 2-week history of yellowish nose-and oral-discharge, anorexia and lethargy. In physical examination, indefinite ulcerative mass about $3{\times}3$ cm in size in the left sublingual region, severe gingivoperiodontitis, halitosis, moderate dental calculus, fever and swelling of mandible soft tissue were noted. In radiographic view, periodontitis and bone lysis findings on the left rostral part of maxilla and mandible were observed. In complete blood count and blood chemistry test, thrombocytosis, increased levels of serum $NH_3$, AST and ALP were obtained. Urinalysis revealed hematuria and proteinuria. In histological examination, squamous cell carcinoma was diagnosed. No surgery was performed, but combined treatment with carboplatin and piroxicam was initiated. Five days after initiation of medication, because of insistent vomiting, piroxicam was substituted to meloxicam. Although the therapeutic efficacy of meloxicam could not be known; administration of meloxicam might be less potential to gastrointestinal side-effects than piroxicam. The dog totally received 3 times of carboplatin infusion. Five days after third infusion of carboplatin, the dog was hospitalized with severe lethargy, vomiting and bloody diarrhea. In examination, severe renal failure signs were noted, and the dog was euthanized.
