Effects of oral myofunctional exercise on the oral health in masticatory dysfunction (저작기능장애자의 구강근기능훈련이 구강위생에 미치는 효과)

  • 본 연구는 저작기능장애자 56명을 대상으로 구강안면프로그램을 시행함으로 인해 이로 인한 구강위생효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 그 결과 구강안면프로그램을 이용한 집단과 대조군이 치면세균막지수, 구강건강행동지수의 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 향후 교육프로그램을 구강보건교육의 동기부여를 위한 도구로 활용가치가 있을 것으로 사료된다.

The Influence of Qualifications and Experiences in the Employment of Dental Hygiene Students (치위생학과 졸업예정자의 취업스펙이 취업경쟁력에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • To advance the competitiveness of dental hygienist students, the concept of 'employment competitiveness index' was introduced. By utilizing the index, the preparedness of employment and awareness of employment was studied, to enhance the understandings of students' career and preparations for employment. Both hypothesis 1-basic contents of a student's resume or so-called "specifications" and employment competitiveness index have positive correlation-and hypothesis 2-the 'inspirational factors' and employment competitiveness index have positive correlation-were accepted. Among the 'basic factors', attractiveness and foreign language scored the least while understanding of employers, certificates, and job experiences scored the least among the inspirational factors category. Using this study, various organizations such as universities will be able to provide better guidelines regarding employment or career. In conclusion, this study aims to provide advanced, effective and competitive guidelines for dental hygienist curriculum planning, developing non-curriculum courses, special lectures, and providing advice regarding employment.

Trend analysis of research in the journal of Korean society dental hygiene from 2001 to 2015 (한국치위생학회지 게재논문(창간호~2015년)의 연구동향 분석)

  • Objectives: The purpose of study is to investigate trends in dental hygiene research published in the Journal of Korean Society Dental Hygiene. Methods:Total of 992 researches were published between 2001 to 2015 were reviewed using analysis criteria. Results: 23.7% of the researches were supported financially. The most frequent research topics were oral health (40.9%). 3 to 5 researchers per research (38.5%) was most common and 84.1% of principal researchers were professors. 29 researchers were approved by IRB (2011 to 2015). As for the type of research, 87.1% of quantitative studies adapted survey and 9.5% adapted experiment. Convenient sampling was used in 85.6% of the researches. 32.7% of studies searched information in school. Interventions of dental material were the most in pre experimental design (19.2%) and Interventions of activation of oral health program were the most in quasi experimental design (37.5%). Conclusions: The findings of this study suggested the recent trends and the direction in dental hygiene research.

Effect of Low Molecular Chitosan on the Surface Properties and Oral Bacteria Adhesion of Dental Cement (저분자 키토산이 치과용시멘트의 표면특성과 구강세균 부착에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, low molecular weight chitosan (LC) was added to dental cement liquid at 0, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 wt% by weight for surface properties and oral bacteria adhesive of dental cement. The evaluated by net setting time and surface properties of surface energy on the surface roughness. The degree of oral bacterial adhesion was assessed using two strains of oral bacteria, S. mutans and E.coli. The results showed that the setting time at the LC0.5 group increased no statistically difference was observed (p<0.05). The surface roughness statically significant LC2.0 group and oral bacteria adhesion experiment results in contrast to the control group LC0, LC-added experimental group showed a somewhat lower adherent surface statistically significant difference was observed (p<0.05). It seems that this LC proved that surface properties and oral bacteria adhesion effect was demonstrated. Therefore, it was suggest that the additional effects of LC and research on a wide range of substances.

Application of a Project-Based Learning on Community Dental Hygiene (프로젝트 기반 지역사회치위생학 현장실습 수업적용 사례)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the applicability of project - based learning as a teaching method for 'Dental Hygiene Practice' in the community dental hygiene department at G city S university. The subjects were 30 students in the fourth grade in 2018. Data collection period was from March 12 to June 27, and mean and standard deviation were compared using SPSS 20.0 program. The results of the analysis showed that the score of the team with high team performance was high ($3.91{\pm}0.82$), the students were required to practice ($4.10{\pm}0.88$), and the feedback from the professor ($3.73{\pm}0.86$) Satisfaction was high. It was determined that the application of project - based learning classes in the 'Community Dental Hygienic Field Practice' course was appropriate for the class.

A Convergence Study of Association between Periodontitis and Obesity by The Number of Pregnancy from Korean National Health and Nutrition Survey (국민건강영양조사를 통한 임신횟수에 따른 비만과 치주염의 연관성에 관한 융합연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between obesity and periodontitis by the number of pregnancy using the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(2010-2015). Periodontitis measures the community periodontal index, and body mass index was used for the obesity. Socioeconomic variables and health-related behaviors were investigated. Periodontitis and obesity were higher in women with a high pregnancy frequency after controlling for confounding variables. In conclusion, periodontitis is closely related to obesity, and the association is somewhat higher as the number of pregnancies increases. Comprehensive management of obesity and periodontitis is effective in developing health promotion program for women in future, and this data will be used as basic data for development of women's health promotion program.

Reliability and Validity of the Korean Version of Broad Conceptualization of Beauty Scale (한글판 미의 광범위한 개념 척도(K-BCBS)의 신뢰도 및 타당도)

  • BCBS (Broad Conceptualization of Beauty Scale) is a measurement tool designed to evaluate the standards of an individual's inner beauty. In this study, reliability and feasibility were verified for 100 female college students using the final Korean version BCBS 9 questions that were formed through the adaptation process. As a result of checking the internal consistency to verify the reliability of Korean version BCBS, it showed high reliability with Cronbach's 𝜶 0.878, subjective beauty 0.874, physical beauty 0.808 and psychological beauty 0.880. As a result of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis to verify feasibility of Korean version BCBS, feasibility was secured by showing significant results in all items. Therefore, through this study, the Korean version BCBS was proved to be a useful measurement tool that comprehensively evaluates the concept of women's broad scale beauty, and using this as basic data, it is believed that it can be used for professional development and research on internalized beauty for female college students.

A Convergence Study of Subjective Perception of Some Dental Hygiene Major Students (일부 치위생 전공 학생들에 대한 주관적 인식의 융합적 연구)

  • This study was conducted to find out the factors influencing the subjective perception of some students majoring in dental hygiene. An online survey was conducted on 292 enrolled students, and the data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. As a result of multiple regression analysis of the factors influencing subjective perception, the factors that significantly influence were positively influenced by admission according to general satisfaction, subject satisfaction, and aptitude. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the subjective perception of enrolled students through improvement of various factors. To this end, it is considered necessary to raise positive awareness and provide customized employment guidance by establishing various education and counseling support programs suitable for the subjects through continuous research in the future.

Study on Current Curriculum Analysis of Clinical Dental Hygiene for Dental Hygiene Students in Korea (국내 치위생(학)과 임상치위생학 교육과정 운영현황 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data to standardize the clinical dental hygiene curriculum, based on analysis of current clinical dental hygiene curricula in Korea. We emailed questionnaires to 12 schools to investigate clinical dental hygiene curricula, from February to March, 2017. We analyzed the clinical dental hygiene curricula in 5 schools with a 3-year program and in 7 schools with a 4-year program. The questionnaire comprised nine items on topics relating to clinical dental hygiene, and four items relating to the dental hygiene process and oral prophylaxis. The questionnaire included details regarding the subject name, the grade/semester/credit system, course content and class hours, the number of senior professors, and the number of patients available for dental hygiene clinical training purposes. In total, there were 96 topics listed in the curricula relating to clinical dental hygiene training, and topics varied between the schools. There was an average of 20.4 topic credits, and more credits and hours were allocated to the 4-year program than to the 3-year program. On average, the ratio of students to professors was 21.4:1. Course content included infection control, concepts for dental hygiene processes, dental hygiene assessment, intervention and evaluation, case studies, and periodontal instrumentation. An average of 2 hours per patient was spent on dental hygiene practice, with an average of 1.9 visits. On average, student clinical training involved 19 patients and 26.6 patients in the 3-year and 4-year programs, respectively. The average participation time per student per topic was 38.0 hours and 53.1 hours, in the 3-year and 4-year programs, respectively. Standardizing the clinical dental hygiene curricula in Korea will require consensus guidelines on topics, the number of classes required to achieve core competencies as a dental hygienist, and theory and practice time.

Current Status of Clinical Dental Hygiene Education Based on Dental Hygiene Process of Care (치위생과정에 근거를 둔 임상치위생학의 교육 실태)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the educational status of dental hygiene process of care and to provide foundation for introducing curriculums focused on it. Questionnaire (14 questions) on educational status of clinical dental hygiene based on dental hygiene process of care was distributed in 50 dental hygiene schools with full classes. Research was performed with structured questionnaires on the basis of previous literatures, and interview and email survey was conducted. Collected data were analyzed with Frequency analysis, Descriptive statistics, and Chi-square test using SPSS 12.0, and the results were as follows. The average student to clinical dental hygiene faculty ratio of 22 to one regardless of year of curriculum. Sixty two point five percent of dental hygiene school reported having a curriculum about comprehensive dental hygiene process. Regarding the distribution of lecture and practical curriculums, they were less focused on dental hygiene diagnosis (68.8%), planning (65.6%) and evaluation (68.8%) than on assessment and implementation. Just over half (56.7%) reported having education of dental hygiene process of care during the course of curriculum. In conclusion, it is most desirable to provide integrated education based on dental hygiene process of care by reinforcing dental hygiene diagnosis, planning, and evaluation step.
