Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of dental anomalies in outpatient clinics. Methods: The subjects of this study were 3,133 patients who visited the clinic between January 2009 and June 2011. The dental records and panoramic films of the patients and detection of supernumerary, missing, and impacted teeth, transposition, and peg lateralis were reviewed. The results were analyzed according to gender and types and locations of dental anomalies. Results: Among the patients, 362 had dental anomalies, with a prevalence rate of 11.55%. Congenital missing teeth (5.71%) ranked first in the categories, and impacted teeth (3.09%) ranked second. The percentage of patients having supernumerary teeth, peg lateralis, and dislocated teeth were 1.79%, 1.66%, and 0.45%, respectively. Conclusions: Congenital missing teeth and impacted teeth are, respectively, the first and second most common dental anomalies in Korean dental patients.
This study was Dental health determinants of elderly people. For this purpose, a questionnaire was done for 396 elderly people of 60 or more years old who have visited Seogwipo city public health center(branch) in Jejudo from May 27th to June 5th 2013 after they heard the intention of that investigation. Result of the most answers were 'normal' for the question asking the subjective status of teeth health of whom having more than 20 natural teeth as 73.3%; the most answers of whom with less than 19 natural teeth were 'bad' as 41.4%, which showed difference(p<0.05). The factors influencing the subjective teeth health were 4.3times higher in cases of women than men. The higher educational(high school or more)had they, the more monthly average income(2 million won or more) did they have, the higher was their subjective teeth health status(p<0.01). It is more important than anything that they reserve more than 20 natural teeth until they get old to keep and improve their oral and body health. In addition to that, the oral health project or oral health program to perform country-wide programs for free, consistent and systematic oral health examination and education should be planned.
The purpose of this study was to present the causes and their mechanisms of eruption failure of teeth and to investigate the treatment modalities. There are so many reports about eruption failure, but most of them are dealing with local mechanical interferences. But, we have patients suffered from eruption failure of another causes. Many developmental failures show eruption problems of teeth, although in some cases, the primary failure of eruption (failure of the eruption mechanism itself) can be the primary cause. We have to know about the causes, differences, and the treatment modalities for those abnormalities.
This study aims to find out the correlation between the number of snack intake frequency by the young Korean and the experience of dental caries by nationwide level, using data of Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2007. participants whose age among 12 to 18 years-old were analyzed for this study. Of 373 total participants in this analysis, 200 were male and 173 were female. The Multiple Logistic Regression Analysis was used to estimate the association between food intake between meals and experience of dental caries. Data were weight-adjusted. The results were evidently found that those who eat between meals more frequently are likely to be linked more closely to the dental caries, in terms of the correlation between property of demography and the experience of disease (OR:2.1, CI:1.1-4.0). Thus, It is to raise the awareness of effect on dental health, regarding a kind of food consumed, an appropriate nutritional education or dietary consultation is required regularly at school.
The study was intended to investigate the factors affecting dental caries in adults. To that end, adults aged 19 years and older among 10,113 subjects who completed the health-related questionnaire, medical examination and nutrition surveys in the first year (2013) of the 6th Korea National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey, and 4,843 subjects categorized as patients with permanent teeth caries were included in the final analysis. The prevalence of dental caries in line with socio-economic aspects was found to be higher in men than in women. In view of education, the prevalence of dental caries was high in high school graduates, middle school graduates, college graduates and other advanced degree holders in the order named. Low monthly income earners showed the highest prevalence of dental caries. As for health-related lifestyles, the prevalence of dental caries was higher in smokers than in non-smokers. Obese subjects showed a little higher prevalence of dental caries compared to people of normal weight. Also, the prevalence was higher in those who failed to get oral examination than otherwise. Frequent daily toothbrushing and use of dental floss and interdental brush significantly decreased the prevalence of dental caries. In the logistic regression analysis with the presence or absence of dental caries employed as a dependent variable, gender, age, income level, smoking, oral examination and use of dental floss were found to serve as independent variables affecting dental caries. Therefore, Korean adults' socio-economic factors and lifestyles were proved to affect dental caries, which warrants some dental health programs and action plans designed to help lead healthy lifestyles whilst preventing dental caries and improving dental health in adults.

The purpose of this study was to examine dental complications and to evaluate the effects of initial treatment age, treatment modalities, and treatment duration on the disorder after radiation and chemotherapy in pediatric cancer patients. For 93 children with clinical and radiographic data, the number of teeth, the morphology of teeth, the shape of the roots, and development status of the dentition were evaluated. Dental development disorders were found in 61.3% of the children. The mostly found abnormality was root deformity with the prevalence of 31.2%. In children submitted to the therapy before the age of 6, the number of missing teeth (p = 0.029) and microdontia (p = 0.003) were greater compared to the children who started to receive the treatment after the age of 6. The combination of radiation and chemotherapy showed significantly greater incidences of missing teeth (p = 0.030), microdontia (p = 0.046), and root deformity (p = 0.009) when compared with the sole application of chemotherapy. When the children were submitted to anticancer therapy for 18 months or longer duration, greater number of missing teeth (p = 0.032), microdontia (p = 0.011), root deformity (p = 0.025), and total number of teeth affected (p = 0.036) were observed compared with duration less than 18 months. The number of dental abnormalities increased when the children were treated at earlier ages, with combination of radiation and chemotherapy, and for longer period of time.
This paper aimed to study on the relevance of mental health and oral health. The subjects were recruited total 3,261 elderly of over 40 years old, using the Sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES). All the collected data were analyzed by chi-square test, t-test, and logistic regression using SPSS 23.0 version. Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship of sleeping time or stress and the number of remaining teeth, and 95% confidence intervals were computed. Sleeping time odds ratio(OR) of the number of remaining teeth was 1.52 (95% confidence interval: 1.074-2.135) and Stress odds ratio(OR) was 2.39 (95% confidence interval: 1.855-3.090), but there is no statistically significant difference after adjusted age, gender and other variables.
