Subjective Mismatch Determinants and Wage Effect of Youth Employees (청년취업자의 주관적 미스매치 결정요인 및 임금효과 분석)

  • This study uses the youth panel survey (YP2007 2th ~ 9th) data of the Korea Employment Information Service to examine the phenomenon of subjective mismatch arising from the youth labor market and analyzed the determinants and wage effects of subjective mismatch. Overall, the analysis showed that the over-education and over-technology of both educational background and technical skill level in the Miss Match significantly decreased, while the lack of education and technology increased rather gradually. Next, the analysis of the determinants of downward employment(Excess of education and technology) showed that males were less likely to be downwardly employed(Excess of education and technology) than females, and in the status of workers, the probability of downward employment of regular and non-wage workers was lower than that of temporary/daily workers. Finally, as a result of estimating the wage effect of the mismatch based on the pooled OLS model and the Panel Fixed Effect model, the mismatch which has the greatest effect on the wage was found to be excessive education, and it has been estimated that youth employees who are over-educated have an average 6.7% lower wages than those who are not. After controlling for the unobserved individual characteristics, they were found to receive a lower wage of 3.2%, and it is estimated that 2.9% for the technical excess mismatch and 2.3% for the major mismatch receive lower wages than the reference group.

Inequality-Reducing Effect of Household Formation and Its Changes (가구 구성의 불평등 완화 효과와 그 변화)

  • This paper estimates the effect of household size and its changes on income inequality. Household formation is an important inequality-reducing mechanism through income pooling and collective consumption. The increase in small households, reflecting lower fertility rate and the increase in both nuclear and old families, has weakened the inequality-reducing effect of household formation. In contrast, additional workers in households and their income have strengthened the inequality-reducing effect of household formation. Given the increasing trend of old families, these results suggest for a balanced policy package that promotes employment and does not discourage co-habitation in order to maintain the inequality-reducing effect of household formation.

ICT서비스의 사회경제적 파급효과

  • 본고에서는 ICT서비스가 사회경제적으로 미치는 파급효과를 분석하기 위하여 ICT서비스를 IT제조업, 통신 및 방송 서비스업, 컴퓨터관련 서비스업으로 재분류하고 2005년의 산업연관표를 이용하여 파급효과를 분석하였다. 그 결과 생산유발계수에서는 민간소비와 정부소비지출에 있어서 기간통신서비스가 가장 높은 효과를 보였으며, IT산업이 제조업분야 보다 서비스 분야에서 높은 부가가치를 창출하고 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 부가가치 유발효과는 민간 및 정부 소비지출 측면에서 통신 및 방송서비스, S/W 및 컴퓨터관련 서비스 부문이 높게 나타났다. 수입유발효과는 정보통신기기 부품 등의 수입유발이 컸으며, 서비스관련 사업은 수입유발이 낮게 나타났다. 취업유발과 관련되는 노동유발효과는 제조업이 가장 높게 나타났으며, 서비스업 측면에서는 S/W 및 컴퓨터 관련 서비스업에서 소비나 투자수요와 관련하여 높은 취업유발효과들 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 생산유발과 고용유발 측면에서 IT제조업 분야의 투자가 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

  • Based on the network, recruitment, education services, talent testing and human resources management etc. integrated services are expanded, and efforting to raise the market share of job information site. Job information site is an alternative finding job and recruiting environment, helping job seekers to conduct self-directed researching and applying for a job online. Directly or indirectly influential factors upon value of job information site are on the rise. Not only Korea but also China has already recognized the importance of these influential factors on job information site. However, the effective rate of implementing job information site is relatively lower among Chinese job market than Korea. This study suggests that there are differences of cultural background between Korea and China, and they were at different internet infrastructure, such differences impact on different job seekers.

  • 세계화 추세의 가속, 급속한 기술진보 및 정보화의 확산 등은 국제간의 분업구조 뿐만 아니라 국내의 산업구조 및 취업구조를 급격히 변화시키고 있다. 국내 취업구조의 변화는 산업간 직업간 취업비중을 모두 변화시키고 있어 고용의 양적 측면은 물론이고 질적 측면에서도 큰 변화가 예상된다. 그러므로 중장기적인 노동력수요 예측은 향후 인력양성의 방향과 체계를 결정하는 데 중요한 지표가 될 뿐만 아니라 노동시장 정책에 있어서도 반드시 필요한 자료가 되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 향후 노동력에 대한 중장기 수요를 일반균형적인 접근을 통하여 산업별 직업별로 예측하고 이 예측결과에 따른 향후 노동시장 및 인력정책의 방향을 제시하는 데 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 연구들이 사용한 방법의 이론적 약점을 보완하면서 실증 결과의 예측성을 높일 수 있는 개선된 방법을 사용하였다. 산업별 취업자를 전망하는데 있어 기존 연구결과들은 주로 노동시장의 단일방정식만을 추정함으로써 생산요소의 수요가 비탄력적이지 않음에도 불구하고 생산요소간의 대체가능성을 무시하고 있으며, 인력수요에 중요한 결정 요인인 기술변화를 고려하지 못하고 있거나, 취업계수의 변화를 통해 기술진보의 효과를 고려한다고 하여도 기술진보가 생산요소간에 비중립적(factor non-neutral technology changes)으로 일어날 경우 요소간 대체가능성을 간과하고있다. 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위해 본 연구에서는 산업별 취업자 전망에서 노동시장의 단일방정식 추정이 아닌 일반균형에 입각한 경제 모형을 사용하였다. 또한 직종별 취업자 전망을 위해서는 일반적으로 이용되는 필요 인력량에 대한 고정계수(fixed coefficient manpower requirement)를 추정할 때 이중비례행렬모형(二重比例行列模型)을 이용하여, 산업구조의 변화로 인한 직업별 인력수요 변화가 충분히 고려되도록 하였다. 전망의 결과에 따르면 향후 우리 경제는 지식기반경제(knowledge-based economy)로 이행하고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 우선 산업구조면에서 지식집약적산업으로의 구조조정이 일어나게 되고 이에 따라 산업별 취업구조에서도 고기술산업의 취업준비중이 급속히 증가하게 된다. 직업별 취업분포에 있어서도 전문기술직 행정관리직 등의 고숙련 사무직의 비중은 크게 증가하는 반면 생산관련직과 농림어업직의 비중은 감소하게 된다. 이처럼 경제가 지식집약화되어 감에 따라 고학력자에 대한 수요는 지속적으로 증가하지만 현재 적절한 인력양성과 공급이 이루어지지 않고 있어 향후 기술이나 기능에 따른 수급부일정(需給不一政)(skill mismatch)현상이 매우 심해질 것으로 보인다. 따라서 앞으로의 인력정책에서 가장 주안점을 두어야 할 부분은 첨단기술산업과 관련된 인력의 양성에 있다고 하겠다.

Influence on College Students' Depression of Anxiety, Unemployment Stress, and Self-esteem - Moderating Effect of Resilience - (대학생의 불안, 취업스트레스 및 자아존중감이 우울에 미치는 영향 -회복탄력성의 조절효과-)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the levels of depression of the college students, and correlation of depression and anxiety, unemployment stress, self-esteem, and finally to explore the moderating effect of resilience between those variables. The participants of the survey were 298 college students. The data were analyzed with t-test, ANOVA test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and moderated multiple regression by SPSS Win 18.0. The major findings were as follow; students appear to have more depression when they are female, in 1st, 2nd, 4th grades than 3rd grade, and in a low economical status. Students' depression had a positive correlation with anxiety and unemployment stress, and had a negative correlation with self-esteem, resilience. In moderated multiple regression analysis, self-esteem and anxiety were influenced by resilience such as self-control ability. Therefore, the intervention strategies for decreasing depression of college students should include development of resilience, especially self-control ability in specific, besides control of the anxiety and unemployment stress.

The Effect of Female Faculties on Female Students' Employment (대학교수의 여성 비율이 여학생의 취업에 미치는 영향)

  • According to the role model effect, gender of faculty plays an important role in students' employment. This paper investigates the effect of female faculties on female college students' employment in Korea. The fixed effect estimation results show that the percentage of female faculty has no statistically significant effect on female students' employment rate, although the 1%p increase of female faculty appears to be related with the employment rate of female students by 0.102%p in estimation using pooled OLS estimation. We have the almost same results even with dividing female students by major fields. These results can be interpreted the students' employment rate may be influenced by many other factors, such as personal characteristics, abilities, and family background besides faculty gender. We find that there is no empirical evidence of statistically significant effect of the faculty gender on the employment rate of female students.

  • This study was conducted to verify the effectiveness of the university's extracurricular program of convergence majors on lifelong education for the disabled on the performance of restaurant employment skills for high school students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The research method consisted of a case study procedure for three intellectual and developmental disability high school students, specifically using a single subject research technique. The study found that high school students with intellectual and developmental disabilities effectively acquired and maintained restaurant employment skills through extracurricular program on convergence majors of lifelong education for the disabled. In conclusion, the university's extracurricular program on convergence major of lifelong education for the disabled was analyzed to be effective in adapting to adult life and self-reliance, including restaurant employment skills of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Effect of Burden of Caring Unmarried Adult Children on Depression of Employed Women: Mediating Effects of Couple Communication and Job Satisfaction (취업 여성의 미혼 성인자녀 돌봄 부담이 우울에 미치는 영향 : 부부의사소통과 일 만족도의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the effect of burden of caring unmarried adult children on depression of employed women and to verify the mediating effects of couple communication and job satisfaction. For the purpose, the data from the fourth year Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families on 586 employed women with baby boomer husbands and unmarried adult children were analyzed by using structure equation modeling. The found results are as follows. First, burden of caring unmarried adult children of employed women had a positive effect on their depression, while it had a negative effect on couple communication and job satisfaction. Second, couple communication of employed women influenced negatively on their depression and had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between burden of caring unmarried adult children and depression. Third, the effect of burden of caring unmarried adult children on depression of employed women was partly mediated by their job satisfaction. Further, the practical programs to enhance couple communication and job satisfaction, as well to reduce depression, were presented.

The Impacts of Education and Non-Labor Income on Employment Among the Elderly: An Estimation with a Panel Logit Model to Address the Problem of Endogenous Predictors (교육수준과 비근로소득이 고령자 취업에 미치는 영향: 내생성을 고려한 패널로짓 모형 추정)

  • As Korean society grows rapidly older, a systematic analysis of the determinants of labor supply behavior among the elderly becomes a prerequisite for designing more effective senior employment policies and income security regime for the elderly. Literatures review shows that a majority of previous researches have been ignoring the problem of "endogenous predictor" especially when it comes to the estimation of the effects of the two key variables, education and non-labor income, on labor supply decisions among older people. They have failed to take into consideration the unobserved heterogeneities which might affect both labor supply decisions of the elderly and their levels of education and non-labor income, which means, according to some econometric literatures, that the estimated coefficients of the two predictors can be inconsistent. The paper tries to redress the endogeneity problem by employing a panel logit model with data from the 1st. to 4th. wave of the KLoSA(Korean Longitudinal Survey of Ageing) to estimate the effects of key predictors on the probability of getting jobs among older people(ages of 60 or older). Both a random effects and a fixed effects model reaffirms that non-labor income has a negative effect on the chances of being employed. And a random effects model shows that the effect of education is also negative, as has frequently been reported by previous studies. That means the effects of education and non-labor income on elderly employment remain negative after the effect of unobserved heterogeneities is controled for and the problem of endogenous predictors is redressed through an appropriate panel data analysis. These findings mean, in turn, that when Korean baby-boomers, who had acquired an unprecedentedly higher level of education and were expected to enjoy ever-larger amount of non-labor income than their preceding generations, retires in near future, their incentives to work will become much weaker and the lack of labor-force and the burden of financing increased public pension expenditure will become more troublesome. The paper concludes with recommending some policy initiatives helpful to solve these expected problems.
