Classification of Security Checklist Items based on Machine Learning to Manage Security Checklists Efficiently (보안 점검 목록을 효율적으로 관리하기 위한 머신러닝 기반의 보안 점검 항목 분류)

  • NIST in the United States has developed SCAP, a protocol that enables automated inspection and management of security vulnerability using existing standards such as CVE and CPE. SCAP operates by creating a checklist using the XCCDF and OVAL languages and running the prepared checklist with the SCAP tool such as the SCAP Workbench made by OpenSCAP to return the check result. SCAP checklist files for various operating systems are shared through the NCP community, and the checklist files include ID, title, description, and inspection method for each item. However, since the inspection items are simply listed in the order in which they are written, so it is necessary to classify and manage the items by type so that the security manager can systematically manage them using the SCAP checklist file. In this study, we propose a method of extracting the description of each inspection item from the SCAP checklist file written in OVAL language, classifying the categories through a machine learning model, and outputting the SCAP check results for each classified item.

A Study for Rule Integration in Vulnerability Assessment and Intrusion Detection using Meaning Based Vulnerability Identification Method (의미기반 취약점 식별자 부여 기법을 사용한 취약점 점검 및 공격 탐지 규칙 통합 방법 연구)

  • This paper presents vulnerability identification method based on meaning which is making use of the concept of atomic vulnerability. Also, we are making use of decomposition and specialization processes which were used in DEVS/SES to get identifiers. This vulnerability representation method is useful for managing and removing vulnerability in organized way. It is helpful to make a relation between vulnerability assessing and intrusion detection rules in lower level. The relation enables security manager to response more quickly and conveniently. Especially, this paper shows a mapping between Nessus plugins and Snort rules using meaning based vulnerability identification method and lists usages based on three goals that security officer keeps in mind about vulnerability. The contribution of this work is in suggestion of meaning based vulnerability identification method and showing the cases of its usage for the rule integration of vulnerability assessment and intrusion detection.

  • The damage is increasing due to many encroachment accidents caused by increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks. Many institutions and businesses lack early response to invest a lot of resources in the infrastructure for incident detection. The initial response of an intrusion is to identify the route of attack, and many cyber attacks are targeted at software vulnerabilities. Therefore, analyzing the artifacts of a Windows system against software vulnerabilities and classifying the analyzed data can be utilized for rapid initial response. Therefore, the remaining artifacts upon entry of attacks by software are classified, and artifact grouping is presented for use in analysis of encroachment accidents.

  • RFID 시스템은 현재 교통카드나 전자여권 등 우리 실생활의 여러 분야에서 쓰이고 있는 기술이다. 그러나 RFID 시스템은 시스템 자원들이 한정되어 있어 현재 네트워크에서 쓰이는 암호 알고리즘을 적용하기 힘들고, 시스템이 개방되어 있는 구조를 가지고 있기 때문에 공격자들의 위협을 받고 있다. 본 논문에서는 RFID 시스템의 개념과 작동원리를 설명하고, RFID 시스템의 보안상 취약점을 공격 유형에 따라 분류한다. 그 후, 각 취약점에 대응되는 대응 방안에 대해서 알아보고, 이들을 분류하고 비교, 분석한다. 이 분석 결과를 통하여 RFID 시스템의 새로운 보안 기법의 연구 방향을 제시한다.

An Empirical Analysis about the usefulness of Internal Control Information on Corporate Soundness Assessment (기업건전성평가에 미치는 내부통제정보의 유용성에 관한 실증분석 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide an efficient internal control system formation incentives for company and to confirm empirically usefulness of the internal accounting control system for financial institutions by analyzing whether the internal control vulnerabilities of companies related significantly to the classification and assessment of soundness of financial institutions. Empirical analysis covered KOSPI, KOSDAQ listed companies and unlisted companies with more than 100 billion won of assets which have trading performance with "K" financial institution from 2008 until 2013. Whereas non-internal control vulnerability reporting companies by the internal control of financial reporting received average credit rating of BBB on average, reporting companies received CCC rating. And statistically significantly, non-reporting companies are classified as "normal" and reporting companies are classified as "precautionary loan" when it comes to asset quality classification rating. Therefore, reported information of internal control vulnerability reduced the credibility of the financial data, which causes low credit ratings for companies and suggests financial institutions save additional allowance for asset insolvency prevention and require high interest rates. It is a major contribution of this study that vulnerability reporting of internal control in accordance with the internal control of financial reporting can be used as information significant for the evaluation of financial institutions on corporate soundness.

  • The OSGi platform is a Java-based component platform that is being widely used from environments for the application development to enterprise software. The OSGi platform provides dynamic and transparent installation for open environments. However, it open new attacks so that many researches try to solve OSGi vulnerability. Security flaws in OSGi platform are categorized two parts: the JVM and the OSGi platform itself. We focus on vulnerability by OSGi platform itself, particularly service injection. We identify the service injection attack and suggest secure mechanisms to prevent the attack. Those mechanisms are implemented, providing a few modification to the Knopflerfish OSGi implementation and are evaluated through comparing with existing mechanisms.

  • Cyber attacks have rapidly increased by exploiting the underlying vulnerabilities in the target software. However, identifying and correcting these vulnerabilities are extremely difficult and time consuming tasks. To address these problems efficiently, we propose a systematic methodology for security vulnerability assessment process on binary code in the paper. Specifically, we first classified the existing vulnerabilities based on whether the target software run in a Web environment and features of the software. Based on the classification, we determined the list and scope of the vulnerabilities. As our future research direction, we need to further refine and validate our methodology.

  • Industrial control systems (ICS) are increasingly targeted by security incidents as attackers' knowledge of ICS characteristics grows and their connectivity to information technology expands. Vulnerabilities related to ICS are growing rapidly, but patching all vulnerabilities in a timely manner is challenging. The common vulnerability assessment system used to patch vulnerabilities has limitations as it does not consider weaponization after discovery. To address this, this study defines criteria for classifying attacker skill levels based on open information including operating technology and vulnerability information in ICS. The study also proposes a method to evaluate vulnerability severity that reflects actual risk and urgency by incorporating the corresponding attribute in the existing severity score calculation. Case studies based on actual accidents involving vulnerabilities were conducted to confirm the effectiveness of the evaluation method in the ICS environment.

  • The main contents of this paper is to develope effective measures for Internet Web service attack, classifying vulnerability of Web Service by network layer and host unit and researching classification method by attack range of type of services. Using this paper, we can accumulate analyzed Web service attack information which is key information of promote Web security strengthening business, and basis of relevant security research for detect and response Web site attack which can contribute to activation information security industry.

Categorizing C Secure Coding Rules for a Design Guideline of a New Language (새로운 언어 설계의 지침을 위한 C 시큐어 코딩 규칙 분류)

  • 현대 사회에서 정보보안은 무엇보다 중요한 요소로 자리 잡고 있다. 시큐어 코딩은 정보보안 기법의 하나로 보안 취약점을 원천적으로 차단하여 보안 비용을 획기적으로 줄이는 방법이다. 하지만 기존 시큐어 코딩 가이드는 C나 Java와 같은 특정 언어에 대한 가이드만 제공하고 있다. 이 논문에서는 다양한 언어에서도 기존의 시큐어 코딩 가이드를 활용할 수 있도록 언어적 특징을 기반으로 시큐어 코딩 가이드를 재분류하고자 한다. 이를 위해 이 논문에서는 많은 언어의 기반이 되는 C 언어의 시큐어 코딩 가이드 중 안전행정부에서 발표한 C 시큐어 코딩 가이드를 이용하여 재분류 작업을 수행하였다. 그 결과 총 58개의 취약점 중 언어와 관련이 있는 취약점은 19개로 약 33%가 프로그래밍 언어와 관련 있는 것을 확인하였다. 또한, 제안 방법의 내용 중 언어적 특성쪽의 취약성을 모두 해결할 수 있도록 문법을 설계한다면 C 언어보다 보안성이 높은 언어를 설계할 수 있다.
