Comparison of performance of cooling tower with various shape of packings (충전재 형상에 따른 냉각탑 성능비교에 관한 연구)

  • Since the performance of cooling tower is strongly dependent on the thermal performance of the packing, the evaluations of heat transfer rate and fan power from various packing have attracted intense interest. In the present study, two new packings have been devised and their performances have been compared with those of two existing packings to find better shape characteristic. It is found that one of the existing packings, which showed high heat transfer rate and medium fan power due to zig -zag flow passages and highly irregular surfaces, should be adapted.

A study on the counter-flow cooling tower performance analysis using NTU-method (NTU법을 이용한 대향류형 냉각탑의 성능해석에 관한 연구)

  • The thermal performance of cooling towers is affected by the temperature of inlet water, wet bulb temperature of entering air add water-air flow rate. In this study, the effects of these variables are simulated using NTU-method and experimentally investigated for the counter-flow cooling towers. The simulation program to evaluate these variables which affect the performance of cooling tower was developed. The maximum errors between the results of simulations and experiments were 3.8% under the standard design conditions and 5.4% under the other conditions. The performance was increased up to 46~50% as the water loading was increased from $6.8m^3$/$hr\cdot m^2$ to $15.9m^3$/$hr\cdot m^2$. The range was reduced up to 56~42% when the wet bulb temperature of the entering air was increased from $22^{\circ}C\; to\; 29^{\circ}C.$

A Study on the Compaction and Permeability According to the Mixture Ratio of Pond Ash and Bentonite for Liner Material (매립지 차수재로써 매립회-벤토나이트 혼합비에 따른 다짐 및 투수특성에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, industrial by-products are exponentially growing because energy consumption is increasing due to rapid industrial development and improved living standards. The purpose of this study is to determine the proper mixing ratio to meet the liner conditions(must be less than $1{\times}10^{-7}$cm/sec), using pond ash and bentonite as liner. As the result of the compaction test, depending on the increase mixing ratio of bentonite, the maximum dry unit weight was decreased but the optimum moisture content was tended to be increased at the compaction curve. As the result of the permeability test, depending on the increase mixing ratio of bentonite, the coefficient of permeability showed tendency to be decreased in the form of index and the tendency was caused by the hydration reactions filling the void of the pond ash. When the mixing ratio of bentonite was approximately over 15%, it was satisfied with the land fill liner conditions. In other words, it is necessary to consider other mixtures containing the cement or another material in the economical aspect for application of the pond ash.
