A Fundamental Study on Advanced VTS System through Statistic Analyzing Traffic Accidents in VTS area (해양사고 통계분석을 통한 VTS 개선방안에 관한 기초연구)

  • Although it is expected to provide fundamental data for advanced VTS system by analyzing traffic accidents in VTS area, there is no quantitative analysis to find it.. In this research, it is examined and analyzed marine casualties records(1999-2004), data of Port-MIS and data of each VTS center. The results of this research are as below. 1) It is necessary to reduce traffic accident and to improve VTS operating system. 2) It is discovered for statistical discrepancy between vessels controlled by VTS and vessels not controlled by VTS in accident cause, visibility, perception distance and cause of late perception in collision accidents 3) It is necessary for VTS assistance to be positive and to made in ample time consecutively. 4) As the result of traffic accident prediction model, it is necessary to develop a system improving VTS operators' ability to identify dangerous ships.

  • Land fire receives additional extinguishing methods easily by professional extinguisher. But because of isolation and independence from land when sailing on the sea, ships are difficult to get special help from land. Generally, the death ratio by suffocation is higher than the death rate by flame and to reduce suffocation death ratio, fast evacuation is required. This paper aims to improve survival ratio at ship fires by soot density reduction. This study examines soot density and visibility using FDS. And also examines evacuation time by Pathfinder. The FDS(Fire Dynamic Simulator) is a 3 zone model(Field Model) analysis tool and the patherfinder is a useful analysis tool for evacuation. This research examined about evacuation time using the current regulations of the ship's corridor width and exit width first. And then studied evacuation time again when ship's structure was changed according to the method that is proposed in this paper. And finally compared the results each other.

A Study on the Failure Factors of Popular Use of International Domain Names (IDNs): Focusing on the International Standardization Process (다국어도메인의 대중화 실패 요인 탐색: 국제표준화 과정 분석을 통하여)

  • This research analyzes the international standardization process by observing the international communication sources in order to understand the reason of its current poor use. Using the 'organizing theory' frame, we observe the initial discourse on the need of internationalized domain names in ICANN and the process of negotiation for technical choice of layers. Lastly, we take Korean domain names as a case study in order to understand the conflict and the cooperation of different stakeholders. We summarize the factors of failure of IDN as follows. First, the need of IDN in the beginning was raised around non-English speaking countries, in Asia and Middle East, with the discourse on 'digital divide solution and cultural value' ICANN rather pursues the 'technical stability of Internet Infrastructure', which made its standardization take as long as 10 years. As a result, a variety of standards and services are proposed in the marketplace, which engendered inefficient competition and domain name-related disputes such as cybersquatting, technical instability and confusion of users. In addition, the government agencies fail to present the appropriate policies adjusting multiple interests of different stakeholders.

Two Version Latch Technique for Metadata Management of Documents in Digital Library (전자 도서관에서 문서의 메타데이타 관리를 위한 2 버전 래치 기법)

  • Recently, a major issue in the research of metadata is the standardization of metadata format. The new extension capability of metadata in the standardization requires some changes - storing and managing dynamic data consistently. In this paper, we define the characteristics of new metadata and propose a concurrency control called Two Version Latch (2VL). 2VL uses a latch and maintains two versions. Maintaining two versions using latch minimizes conflicts between read operation and write operation. The removal of unnecessary lock holding minimizes refresh latency. Therefore, this algorithm presents fast response time and recent data retrieval in read operation execution. As a result of the performance evaluation, the 2VL algorithm is shown to be better than other algorithms in metadata management system.

Partitioned Contention Access Mechanism to Enhance the Performance of IEEE 802.15.4 MAC Layer (IEEE 802.15.4 MAC 계층의 성능 향상을 위한 분할 경합 접근 방식)

  • In IEEE 802.15.4 beacon-enabled mode, performance decreases as the number of devices competing in the contention access period(CAP) increases. In this letter, we propose partitioned contention access mechanism(PCAM) to compensate performance degradation. In PCAM, the PAN coordinator divides CAP into two sub-periods and activity of devices is delimited in their assigned sub-periods. Since PCAM reduces the number of devices which compete at the same time by half, collision probability between transmitted frames can be reduced. In addition, devices can save their power consumption because PCAM shorten the duration that devices stay in active state into half. We perform simulations to compare the performance of PCAM with that of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. From the result, PCAM yields better performance than IEEE 802.15.4 standard.

Effect of Hydraulic Pressure on Bubble Dissolution Rate of Ejector Type Microbubble Generator (수압이 자흡식 마이크로버블 발생장치의 산소 용해율에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was performed to estimate bubble dissolution rate by change of hydraulic pressure according to increase of water depth. Experimental results showed that airflow rate was decreased by increase of hydraulic pressure. Because the force which acts on outlet of nozzle was increased by increase of hydraulic pressure. Mass-transfer coefficient decreased with decreasing airflow rate and increasing effective volume due to increase of hydraulic pressure as water depth increased. On the contrary, as the water depth increased, the bubble dissolution rate was increased because longer residence time of microbubble which was generated by ejector type microbubble generator. However it was thought that if water depth for capacity of ejector type microbubble generator is excessively increasing, bubble dissolution rate would be reduced due to low airflow rate and mass-transfer coefficient. Therefore, it is importance to consider the water depth when operating ejector type microbubble generator.

고전압 펄스 시스템 '천둥'을 이용한 N2, SF6 혼합기체에서의 전기.광학적 분석

  • 수 Tera Watt급의 가속기 및 펄스파워 시스템은 다수의 스위치를 사용하고 있으며, 이와 같은 가속기 및 시스템의 성능은 기체방전 스위치의 성능에 직접적으로 관련되어 있다. 일반적으로 이와 같은 기체방전, 액체방전 고출력 스위치는 다목적으로 많은 연구와 개발에 응용되고 있다. 예를 들어 천둥 펄스전자빔 발생장치는 12개의 Marx gap 및 3개의 100 kV 펄스충전 전기트리거 gap을 가지고 있다. 기체 방전 또는 액체 방전 펄스 충전 갭 스위치의 음극에 펄스 고전압이 인가되면 이로 인하여 음극에서 전자빔이 발생한다. 내부에는 전자빔이 양극과 충돌하는 순간 양극표면에 플라스마가 형성된다. 이와 같은 플라스마 sheath는 축 방향 이극관 안에서 양극 충전 에서 음극으로 팽창하면서 전파하며, 또한 거의 동시에 음극표면에도 플라스마가 형성되어 음극에서 양극으로도 팽창하여 전파하게 된다. 이와 같은 펄스충전 고출력 갭 스위치 안에서 발생되는 방전 플라스마의 특성에 관한 갭 breakdown 과정에 대한 특성연구를 한다. 고출력 스위치의 특성 조건으로는 방전전압, 방전시간, jitter 등이 있다. 본 연구에서는 최대전압 600 KV, 최대전류 88 KA, 펄스 폭 60 ns의 특성을 가지는 고전압 펄스 시스템 '천둥'을 이용하여 방전 챔버에 고전압 펄스를 인가하고 N2와 SF6 혼합기체 종류와 압력에 따른 현상을 전기, 광학적으로 연구하였다. 전극은 구리텅스텐 합금재질의 표준전극을 사용하였고, 전극 간격은 20 mm로 고정하였다. 방전 챔버 압력을 100 torr에서 4 기압까지 변화시켜가며 실험을 진행하였고, N2에 대한 SF6의 혼합비율을 0%~100%까지 변화시키며 실험을 진행하였다. 실험결과 방전전압은 압력이 증가함에 따라 증가하다가 2 기압 이상에서는 완만히 증가하는 경향을 보였고, SF6 혼합비율은 0~10%까지 급격히 증가하고, 그 이상의 혼합비율에서는 완만히 증가하였다. 전자온도는 SF6 혼합비율이 0~10%일 때 급격히 증가하여 이후에는 포화되는 경향을 보였고, 압력에 따라서는 큰 경향성을 보이지 않았다.

The Effect of Media on the Removal Efficiency and Filtration Performance in the Submerged Membrane-Coupled Sequencing Batch Reactor with Media (담체가 첨가된 침지형 막결합 연속회분식 반응기에서 제거효율과 여과성능에 대한 담체의 효과)

  • In the submerged membrane-coupled sequencing batch reactor (MSBR) with sponge type media, the effect of media on the removal efficiency and filtration performance were investigated. Dosages of the media in the MSBR were set of 5%, 10%, and 20% based on working volume of reactor. As a control system, the MSBR without media was also operated. The experimental results showed that there was also no difference observed in the removal efficiencies of COD, T-N, and T-P irrespective of the dosages of the media. But TMP (transmembrane pressure) of the MSBR with media increased slowly during the operation time, while that of the MSBR without media increased rapidly at the initial operation. This result was thought that the collisions between flat membrane and moving media gave shear forces which decreased the cake layer on the surface of flat type membrane. Consequently, this study showed that filtration performance of the MSBR with media was greatly enhanced compared with that of the MSBR without media. The MSBR with media suggested in this study can be a good candidate for the wastewater treatment.

Multiple Access Scheme Using Modified Hermite Polynomial Pulse and Ternary code for Out-Body WBAN (신체 외부 통신에서 MHP 펄스와 터너리 코드를 이용한 다중접속 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a multiple access scheme using MHP(Modified Hermite Polynomial) pulse and ternary code for high-data and low-data rate for Out-body WBAN(Wireless Body Area Network). To satisfy the requirement of WBAN system, UWB-IR has been considered as a promising candidate for Out-body WBAN. The proposed multiple access scheme, using orthogonal MHP pulse and ternary code sets, reduces multi-user interference and distinguishes user signal from multi-user signals. We propose two algorithms for synchronous and asynchronous WBAN system. The symbol is constructed by MHP pulses and time hopping duration to reduce multi-user interference in the synchronous WBAN system. The symbol also is constructed by ternary code to avoid collision between pulse trains in the asynchronous WBAN system. The results of the proposed multiple access scheme show a clear improvement of BER.

Material modeling of the temperature rise at high-strain-rate deformation (고변형률 변형하에서 재료 내부의 온도상승 계산을 위한 재료 모델링)

  • High velocity impacts are accompanied with large deformations, which generate a large amount of heat due to plastic works, resulting in a significant temperature rise of the material. Because the elevated temperature affects the dynamic properties of materials, it is important to predict the temperature rise during high-stram-rate deformations. Both existing vacancies and excess vacancies are credited to the stored energy, yet it is difficult to distinguish one from another in contribution to the stored energy using macroscopic level materials models. In this study, an atomistic material model for fee materials such as copper is set up to calculate the stored energy using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. It is concluded that excess vacancies play an important role for the stored energy during a high-strain-rate deformation.
