Development of Structural Analysis System of Bow Flare Structure(2) - Prediction of Wave Impact Load Area - (선수 구조부 구조해석 시스템 개발(2) - 파랑충격하중 면적의 추정 -)

  • Empirical design is still used to avoid a structural damage because impact phenomenon and structural behaviour due to wave impact load can not examined accurately. The damage due to wave impact load is largely affected by impact pressure impulse and impact load area. The objective of this study is, as the second step, to develop an efficient scantling program of bow flare structure, and to predict its impact load area by comparing maximum dented deformations at center of idealized panel structure model of bow flare structure of 300k DWT VLCC using LS/DYNA3D code, which will be used for its verification of dynamic structural analysis, as the next step. Through this study, the impact load area was estimated as $1.5s{\times}1.5s$ stiffener space(s) in the case of panel with stiffeners and as $2.5s{\times}2.5s$, with stringers, under impact pressure curve with peak height 6.5MPa, tail height 1.0MPa, and duration time 5.0msec.

Identification of Dynamic Characteristics and Numerical Analysis of Ceiling System Considering Collision Adjacent Structures (천장시스템의 동특성 식별 및 인접 구조물과의 충돌을 고려한 동적응답해석)

  • In the Pohang Earthquake in 2017, considerable damage to non-structural elements, such as ceiling systems, exterior finishes, and curtain walls, was reported; thus, the seismic designs of non-structural elements are important. In this study, the modal characteristics of a ceiling system were investigated through the impact hammer test. The frequency and damping ratio according to the length of the hanger bolt were identified. In addition, collision experiments were conducted to obtain the impact duration for exactly considering the impact effects of the ceiling against a wall or other adjacent elements. Based on the identified dynamics and impact duration of the ceiling system, the seismic responses of the ceiling system were obtained numerically in case of collision. Numerical simulation results show that the impact load tends to increase with the clearance between the ceiling and adjacent elements, and is not correlated with the length of the hanger bolt.

  • The impact programmer for impact test was designed and the impact analysis was conducted. The effects of the material and geometric parameters on the impact force and pulse shape were investigated. The impact characteristics were examined by experimental and finite element method. The impact test was conducted with free drop impact tester. The ABAQUS/Explicit 5.5 version was used for finite element analysis. The geometric parameters of the conical and dome type impact programmer were analyzed. The polyurethane impact programmers were fabricated and tested. The effects of the hardness and thickness of the impact programmer were studied. The peak acceleration and time duration of impact programmer have close correlation with the hardness, impact energy and thickness of the impactor. The experiment was good agreement with analytical predictions. The impact pulse shape generated with polyurethane impact programmer was half sine shape. The maximum impact force was proportional to impact energy. The impact acceleration was decreased with thickness of impact programmer. The maximum impact time duration level was about 2 msec.

An Analysis on Ice Load Signals Measured from Repetitive Ramming in Heavy Ice Condition (두꺼운 해빙에 대한 충격쇄빙 시 빙하중 신호 분석)

  • To navigate in ice-covered waters, the ice-breaking process is required. The ice-breaking mode depends on material properties of sea ice and ice conditions. The ice-breaking mode is classified into ramming and continuous ice-breaking. The ramming is effective on large ice features, such as thick ice ridge and icebergs, and the continuous ice-breaking is on level ice. In general, the impact time duration of crushing or bending on ice sheets is from 0.2 to 1.0 second. However, impact duration in ramming will be increased. The Korean ice-breaking research vessel ARAON conducted her research voyage in the Antarctic sea during the winter of 2012. The IBRV ARAON measured strain in ramming and continuous ice-breaking. Strain gauge signals were recorded during the planned ice-breaking performance and the unplanned ice transits in heavy ice conditions. The aim of this study is to investigate the ice load signals measured in ramming processes under the heavy ice condition. Based on the time history of the signals, a raising time, a half-decaying time and time duration were investigated and compared with the previous study which was suggested the five profiles of the ice load signals.

Experimental Study on Underwater Transient Noise Generated by Water-Entry Impact (입수 충격 수중 순간 소음에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • To study the water-entry impact noise, on-board experiment using a small launcher firing various objects was performed in the Yellow Sea. As the launcher fires a cylindrical object from the ship vertically, generated noise is measured with a hydrophone on the starboard of Chung-hae, Marine surveyor. Three types of cylindrical objects, which have noses of flat-faced, conical, and hemisphere, were used during the experiment. The measured noise exhibits a time-dependency which can be divided into three phases: (1) initial impact phase, (2) open cavity flow phase, (3) cavity collapse and bubble oscillation phase. In most cases, the waveform of bubble oscillation phase is dominant rather than that of initial impact phase. Pinch-off time, where a cavity begins to collapse, occurs at 0.18 ~ 0.2 second and the average lasting time of bubble was 0.9 ~ 1.3 second. The energy of water-entry impact noise is focused in the frequency region lower than 100 Hz, and the generated noise is influenced by the nose shapes, object mass, and launching velocity. As a result, energy spectral density on the bubble frequency is higher in the order of flat-faced, conical, hemisphere nose, and the increase of initial energy raises the energy spectral density on the bubble frequency in the cylinder body of same shape. Finally, we compare the measurements with the simulated signals and spectrum based on the bubble explosion physics, and obtain satisfactory agreements between them.

  • The impact forces of the highly nonlinear waves are one of the important factors in designing the ocean structures. The impact forces are very difficult to analyze numerically and experimentally because they are impulsive in magnitude and occur instantaneously. In this study the numerical program based on N.S. equations are used to investigate the impact forces of steep waves where the waves are gene rated by the wave maker in the numerical wave basin. The arbitrary steep waves are generated by the superposition of waves of single frequency and the impact forces on vertical cylinder are simulated on the multiblock grids. V.O.F. and the local height function methods are used to track the free surfaces. To validate the numerical analysis the numerical results are compared with the experimental ones and the acceptable agreements are found. It is thought that more studies on the simulations of the incoming breaking waves and the impact forces on the vertical cylinder should be made to obtain the useful results to be applied in the offshore design.

  • An experimental study of the transonic flows over NACA and double wedge airfoils was conducted with a shock tube. The configuration of test section with a slotted wall and chamber was designed and tested to minimize wall and reflected shock wave effects and use the shock tube as simple and less costly wind tunnel generating the relatively high Reynolds numbers transonic flow. Transonic airfoil flows at hot gas Mach numbers of 0.80~0.84, Reynolds number of about $1.2{\times}10^6$ on airfoil chord length and angles of attack of $0^{\circ}$ and $2^{\circ}$ were visualized with the shadowgraph method. The shock wave profiles on the airfoils were compared with the corresponding results from the conventional transonic wind tunnel tests. The experimental results showed that present shock tube exhibited the proper performance characteristics as transonic wind tunnel for tested Mach number range and airfoils.

A survey on installation and management of automated external defibrillators (자동심장충격기 설치현황 및 관리 실태 조사)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the status of the installation, maintenance and management of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) in all mandatory institutions and buildings of the providence to be equipped with AEDs. The study was conducted from November 20, 2017 to December 20, 2017, during which time 169 AED units were surveyed. The collected data was analyzed by frequency analysis and the percentage was determined using the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. A total of 168 units (99.41%) of AEDs were installed inside. Additionally, 47 units (27.80%) were available 24 hours a day, and 44 units (26.00%) were available outside business hours of the institution. Moreover, 87 units (51.43%) of the responsible managers received rescue and first aid training. Evaluation of the management status of the AEDs revealed two (1.20%) that had problems with their battery state of charge battery charge and seven (4.10%) for which the AED pads were past the expiration date. A management system for the manager of AEDs should be established and a regular training program for their systematic maintenance should be developed and applied. It is also suggested that awareness of the necessity of continuous management be raised through reinforcement of laws and legal system reorganization.

  • This paper explains environmental tests of vessel-launched missiles, verifying if a fully assembled missile performs properly from disturbance on delivery by vehicles or naval vessels. We also have operated vibration tests by ground and naval transportation as well as shock tests by naval transportation before firing. The environmental tests have adopted Military Standard Specification and confirmed missile's reliability by performance tests, followed by missile's development. However, this significant testing which have meaning was dong by the missile's body and not with parts.

  • The damages due to wave impact loads are largely affected by impact pressure impulse and impact load area. The objective of this study is, as the third step, to perform dynamic structural analysis of bow flare structure of 300,000 DWT VLCC using LS/DYNA3D code, and to verify its dynamic structural behaviors. The impact load areas of stiffener space $1.5s{\times}1.5s$ and $2.5s{\times}2.5s$ are applied to bow flare structure part with relatively flexible stiffeners, and with stiff members such as stringers, webs etc., respectively, under the wave impact load with peak height 6.5MPa, tail 1.0MPa, and duration time 5.0msec. Through the dynamic structural analysis in this study, it might be thought that the structural strength of bow flare structure is generally sufficient for these wave impact load and areas, except that large damages were found at bow flare structure area with flexible wide span stiffeners.
