A study on the identification of underwater propeller singing phenomenon (수중 프로펠러 명음 현상의 규명에 관한 연구)

  • This paper is a study on the generation mechanism of propeller singing based on the cavitation tunnel test, underwater impact test, finite element analysis and computational flow analysis for the model propeller. A wire screen mesh, a propeller and a rudder were installed to simulate ship stern flow, and occurrence and disappearance of propeller singing phenomenon were measured by hydrophone and accelerometer. The natural frequencies of propeller blades were predicted through finite element analysis and verified by contact and non-contact impact tests. The flow velocity and effective angle of attack for each section of the propeller blades were calculated using RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) equation-based computational fluid analysis. Using the high resolution analysis based on detached eddy simulation, the vortex shedding frequency calculation was performed. The numerical predicted vortex shedding frequency was confirmed to be consistent with the singing frequency and blade natural frequency measured by the model test.

The Effect of Dynamic Property of Absorbing Sheet on the Amplification of Heavy Weight Floor Impact Noise (완충재의 동특성에 따른 중량충격음 증폭에 관한 해석적 연구)

  • Previous experimental results performed by many researchers for a couple of decades in South Korea have shown that an absorbing sheet inserted in a conventional floating slab system for thermal insulation or vibration absorption may amplify the vibration of the slab system at specific frequency ranges depending on the material properties of the sheet. The amplified vibration, consequently, results in the heavy weight floor impact noise exceeding the sound level limit for an apartment house, 50 dB. In this study, the amplification mechanism is examined through numerical analysis and a new slab system is proposed to reduce the amplification and control the noise. The new slab system consists of studs connecting the base slab and upper concrete finishing yielding the dramatically increased stiffness of the slab. The numerical simulation is performed to investigate the effect of the slab system with studs on the vibration and noise control. The results show that the performance of the slab is sensitive to the number and location of studs, and the heavy weight floor impact noise can be reduced up to 6~7 dB compared to the conventional slab system at the optimal stud location.

Simulation Study of Capacitively Coupled Oxygen Plasma with Plasma Chemistry including Detailed Electron Impact Reactions (전자충격반응을 포함하는 플라즈마 화학반응을 고려한 용량결합형 산소플라즈마의 전산모사 연구)

  • Two dimensional simulation results of a capacitively coupled oxygen plasma in a cylindrical reactor geometry are presented. Detailed electron impact reaction rates, which strongly depend on electron energy, are computed from collision cross sections of electrons with $O_2$ and O. Through the coupling of a three moment plasma model with a neutral chemistry/transport model are predicted spatiotemporal distributions of both charged species (electron, $O_2{^+}$, $O^+$, $O_2{^-}$, and $O^-$) and neutral species including ground states ($O_2$ and O) and metastables, known to play important roles in oxygen plasma, such as $O_2(a^1{\Delta}_g)$, $O_2(b^1{{\Sigma}_g}^+)$, $O(^1D)$, and $O(^1S)$. The simulation results clearly verify the existence of a double layer near sheath boundaries in the electronegative plasma.

Mechanical Modeling of Pen Drop Test for Protection of Ultra-Thin Glass Layer (초박형 유리층 보호를 위한 펜 낙하 시험의 기계적 모델링)

  • Ultra-thin glass (UTG) has been widely used in foldable display as a cover window for the protection of display and has a great potential for rollable display and various flexible electronics. The foldable display is under impact loading by bending and touch pen and exposed to other external impact loads such as drop while people are using it. These external impact loads can cause cracks or fracture to UTG because it is very thin under 100 ㎛ as well as brittle. Cracking and fracture lead to severe reliability problems for foldable smartphone. Thus, this study constructs finite element analysis (FEA) model for the pen drop test which can measure the impact resistance of UTG and conducts mechanical modeling to improve the reliability of UTG under impact loading. When a protective layer is placed to an upper layer or lower layer of UTG layer, stress mechanism which is applied to the UTG layer by pen drop is analyzed and an optimized structure is suggested for reliability improvement of UTG layer. Furthermore, maximum principal stress values applied at the UTG layer are analyzed according to pen drop height to obtain maximum pen drop height based on the strength of UTG.

  • Unlike industrial manipulators, the manipulators mounted on the service robots are interacting with humans in various aspects. Therefore, safety has been the important design issue. Many compliant robot arm designs have been introduced for safety. It is known that passive compliance method has faster response and higher reliability than active ones. In this paper, a new safe mechanism based on passive compliance has been proposed. Passive mechanical elements, specifically transmission angle of the 4-bar linkage, springs and shock absorbing modules are incorporated into this safe mechanism. This mechanism works only when the robot arm exerts contact force much more than the human pain tolerance. Validity of the safe mechanism is verified by simulations and experiments. In this research, it is shown that the manipulator using this mechanism provides higher performance and safety than those using other passive compliance mechanisms.

Numerical Study of Sound Generation Mechanism by a Blast Wave (폭발파에 의한 음향파 생성 메커니즘의 수치적 연구)

  • The goal of this paper is to investigate the generation characteristics of the main impulsive noise sources generated by the supersonic flow discharging from a muzzle. For this, this paper investigates two fundamental mechanisms to sound generation in shocked flows: shock motion and shock deformation. Shock motion is modeled numerically by examining the interaction of a sound wave with a shock. The numerical approach is validated by comparison with results obtained by linear theory for a small disturbance case. Shock deformations are modeled numerically by examining the interaction of a vortex ring with a blast wave. A numerical approach of a dispersion-relation-preserving(DRP) scheme is used to investigate the sound generation and propagation by their interactions in near-field.

Analysis of Multi-Chained and Multiple Contact Characteristics of Foot Mechanisms in Aspect of Impulse Absorption (다수 체인과 다중 접촉 성격을 지닌 발 메커니즘에 대한 충격량 흡수 기반 해석)

  • Foot mechanisms play the role of interface between the main body of robotic systems and the ground. Biomimetic design of the foot mechanism is proposed in the paper. Specifically, multi-chained and multiple contact characteristics of general foot mechanisms are analyzed and their advantages are highlighted in terms of impulse. Using Newton-Euler based closed-form external and internal impulse models, characteristics of multiple contact cases are investigated through landing simulation of an articulated leg model with three kinds of foot. It is shown that in comparison to single chain and less articulated linkage system, multi-chain and articulated linkage system has superior characteristic in terms of impulse absorption as well as stability after collision. The effectiveness of the simulation result is verified through comparison to the simulation result of a commercialized software.

  • 우주선, 항공기, 수송차량 등은 기능은 집적 다양화 그리고 성능의 고도와 됨에 따라 에너지 효율성을 위해 구조부재의 경량화가 중요성은 증가되고 있다. 경량화 구조부재 재료 중에는 알루미늄 합금, 세라믹, 복합재료 등이 개발되어 우주선, 항공기, 수송차량 구조부재에 적용하기 위한 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 이들 중, 20세기 초 알루미늄합금이 초 경량화 구조부재로서 많이 이용되었다. 본 논문에서는 경량화 재료 중 이방성을 가지는 복합재료를 구조부재에 적용하였다. 그러나 구조부재에 적용되기 위한 이방성 복합 재료는 강한 충격 이후 취성의 특징 때문에 하중과 흡수에너지가 급속히 감소하는 단점을 가지고 있다. 그래서 이방성 복합재료의 각 층간을 완전히 접합하여 성질이 매우 우수한 부재를 제작할 수 있는 Autoclave 성형법으로 제작하였다. 이방성 복합재료 중 CFRP를 설계 메커니즘 변수에 따라 Autoclave 성형을 하고 하중과 흡수에너지가 높음 평가하기 위해 굽힘실험을 하였다.

  • Carbon/epoxy는 기존의 금속재료에 비해 피로강도 및 기계적 특성이 매우 우수하다. 따라서 최근 튜브형태의 Carbon/epoxy 활용방안이 부각되고 있다. 그러나 Carbon/epoxy는 탄소재료의 특성상 고압, 충격 및 부식에 매우 취약하다. 또한, 장기간 고압피로 및 크리프에 노출될 경우, 금속재료에서는 관찰할 수 없는 층간분리(delamination)가 발생된다. 이러한 층간분리는 섬유방향과 평행하게 진전될 때 급격한 파손을 야기하므로 층간분리에 대한 메커니즘을 이해하고 그 방지책을 강구하는 것은 매우 중요하다.(중략)

도로안전시설용 시선유도봉의 신뢰성 평가법 개발

  • 도로안전시설용 시선유도봉은 통상 도로에 설치되어 운전자의 시선을 유도하고 차선을 분리하는 용도로 사용된다. 이러한 시선유도봉은 주로 도로상에 설치되기 때문에 차량과 부딪히는 경우가 자주 발생하므로 제품의 내구성이 특히 요구된다. 종래의 시선유도봉에 대한 평가방법은 제품의 일부를 채취하여 재료의 기본 품질 성능만을 평가하였다. 그러나 현장의 도로관리를 담당하고 있는 수요기관에서는 빈번한 사고와 민원으로 인해 제품의 평가방법에 대한 문제 제기를 하였고, 완제품 상태로 신뢰성을 평가할 수 있는 방법 개발을 요구하였다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 시선유도봉의 주요 고장 요인이 되는 차량 충돌에 의한 재질 파손, 바퀴 압축에 의한 회복 불능, 제품 표면에 부착되는 반사시트의 박리 및 변색에 대한 고장 메커니즘 분석하고, 이러한 고장을 재현할 수 있는 신뢰성 평가법을 개발하고자 하였다. 주요 고장 메커니즘 분석을 위해 국내.외 평가 기준을 조사하였으며, 특히 미국 AASHTO's (American Association of State Highway and Transportaion Officials)의 NTPEP (National Transportation Products Evaluation Program)에서 수행하고 있는 내구성 평가 방법에 대한 사례 조사를 통해 국내 적용을 검토해 보았다. 또한 서울시설관리공단의 협조로 가장 주요한 고장의 요인으로 꼽히는 차량 충돌 시험을 올림픽대로 내 조각공원에서 실시하였다. 그 결과 시험실에서 고장을 재현할 수 있는 신뢰성 평가 장비 개발의 필요성이 부각되었으며, 차량 충돌과 바퀴 압축을 모사할 수 있는 신뢰성 평가 장비를 제작하였다. 시선유도봉의 신뢰성 평가는 기본적인 품질성능평가 이외에 신규로 개발된 충격시험(고온, 저온, 반사지)과 굴곡압축시험, 반사지와 재질의 내후성 시험을 실시하였다. 또한 국내 9개사(社) 10개 제품에 대한 신뢰성 비교평가를 실시한 결과, 제품의 내구성에 중요 척도가 되는 신뢰성 평가 기준을 설정할 수 있었고, 합리적인 제품의 가격 수준과 품질 수준에 대한 신뢰성 가이드를 제공할 수 있었다.
