This paper establishes a modeling and simulation procedure for structural response and reliability of a cylindrical array sensor on submarines under the shock generated by underwater explosion. The structural reliability of SONAR is important because the submarine could get out of combat ability by the structural damage of the SONAR upon explosion. A cylindrical array sensor was first modeled using the finite element method. Modal analysis was then performed for the check of the reliability of the modeling. The shock resistance simulations were performed for the responses to the structural shock waves and for the responses to the directly applied underwater shock waves, according to BV-043 and MIL-STD-901D, respectively. The stresses of the structure were evaluated with von-Mises scheme. Vulnerable regions were exposed through mapping the maximum stress to the structural model. Maximum stress of the SONAR was compared with the yield stress of the material to examine the structural reliability.

The proposed method in this paper. termed the substructural reanalysis technique, utilizes the computational merits of the component mode synthesis technique and of reanalysis technique for the design sensitivities of the dynamic characteristics of substructurally combined structure. It is shown that the dynamic characteristics of the entire structure can be obtained by synthesizing the substructural eigensolution and the characteristics of the eigensolution for the design variables of the modifiable substructure. In this paper , the characteristics of the eigenvalue problems obtained by this proposed method are compared to exact eigensolution in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency. and the advantage of this proposed method as compared to the direct application of the whole structure and experimental results is demonstrated through examples of numerical calculation for the dynamic characteristics (natural frequencies and mode shapes) of a flexible vibration of thin cylinderical shell with branch shell under 2-end fixed positions, boundary condition. Thin cylinderical shell of overall length 1280mm, external diameter 360mm, thickness 3mm with branch shell is made of mild steel. The load condition for dynamic response in this paper is impulsive load of which magnitude is 10kgf, which have short duration of 0.1 sec. and time interval applied to calculate. $\Delta$T is 1.0$\times$10 super(-4) seconds.
The conventional method for assessment of liquefaction potential proposed by Seed and Idriss has been widely used in most countries because of simplicity of tests. Even though various data such as stress, strain, stress path, and excess pore water pressure can be obtained from the dynamic test, especially, two simple experimental data such as the maximum deviatoric stress and the number of cycles at liquefaction have been used in the conventional assessment. In this study, a new detailed assessment for liquefaction potential to reflect both characteristics of real earthquake motion and dynamic soil resistance is proposed and verified. In the assessment, the safety factor of the liquefaction potential at a given depth of a site can be obtained by the ratio of a resistible cumulative plastic shear strain determined through the performance of the conventional cyclic test and a driving cumulative plastic shear strain calculated from the shear strain time history through the ground response analysis. The last point to cumulate the driving plastic shear strain to initiate soil liquefaction is important for this assessment. From the result of cyclic triaxial test using real earthquake motions, it was concluded that liquefaction under the impact-type earthquake loads would initiate as soon as a peak loading signal was reached. The driving cumulative plastic shear strain, therefore, can be determined by adding all plastic shear strains obtained from the ground response analysis up to the peak point. Through the verification of the proposed assessment, it can be concluded that the proposed assessment for liquefaction potential can be a progressive method to reflect both characteristics of the unique soil resistance and earthquake parameters such as peak earthquake signal, significant duration time, earthquake loading type, and magnitude.

In recent years, the type of bridge where cables such as suspension bridge and cable-stayed bridge are the main factors in the construction of long-range bridges has been soaring. The effects of cables on these structures are very large, and for structural analysis, it is necessary to study the cable and the structural changes according to the mode characteristics of the cables. In particular, cables are directly connected to camber adjustment, which conveys load effects on girders to tower, and are important components in the overall structure, and since the initial tension on the construction is compared with the tension over time, this study was conducted to help identify the condition of the bridge's aging and abnormalities. Therefore, in this study, the characteristics of the mode from the mode analysis through the impact hammer to the mass of the cable and the change in the length of the cable are analyzed.
In this study, a prototype abutment was constructed to establish a safety assessment technique of pier and a series of non-destructive tests using impact load. The surcharge load was loaded from 0 tonf to 2.5 tonf on the prototype abutment, and maximum surcharge load was up to 25 tonf. To analyze the behavior of the piers according to the direction of impact, a total of three types of analysis were performed: the direction of the pier, the direction perpendicular to the pier, and the outer direction of the pier. The height of the impact was also tested at each top and bottom. The measuring instrument used an accelerometer to measure the acceleration response when impacted. Based on the series of experimental results, specific values were calculated according to the direction of an impact and the surcharge load using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). In addition, the phase difference was used to analyze the pier from the primary 1st mode to the 4th mode.

The purpose of this study is to provide the cause and countermeasure for track problems in the high speed railways due to the irregularly increasing dynamic wheel loads running over the speed range of 300 km/h. It has long been recognised that the track problems encountered on high speed railways are associated mainly with vertical dynamic loads which are related to the unsprung mass of vehicles and track irregularities. In addition to these parameters for the estimation of the dynamic wheel load variation, however, the dynamic characteristics of track structures are discussed in this paper with reference to mathematical modelling of the tracks and vehicle. From the results of the more detailed analyses, the effects of track stiffness and damping characteristics are considered to be significant for reducing the dynamic wheel loads. To make this point clear and appraise the overall performance of the track components, the theoretical analysis on the dynamic behavior of the tracks and wheel set impact tests on several track structures are performed. The experimental results from different track components are compared with each other. The track stiffness and damping characteristics are also presented quantatively.

Unlike NATM tunnels, Shield TBM tunnels have split linings. Therefore, the stress distribution of the lining is different even if the lining is under the same load. Representative methods for analyzing the stress generated in lining in Shield TBM tunnels include Non-joint Mode that does not consider connections and a 2-ring beam-spring model that considers ring-to-ring joints and segment connections. This study is an analysis method by Break-joint Mode. However, we do not consider the structural role of segment lining connections. The effectiveness of the modeling is verified by analyzing behavioral characteristics against vibration loads by modeling with segment connection interfaces to which vertical stiffness and shear stiffness, which are friction components, are applied. Unlike the Non-joint mode, where the greatest stress occurs on the crown for static loads such as earth pressure, the stress distribution caused by contact between segment lining and friction stiffness produced the smallest stress in the crown key segment where segment connections were concentrated. The stress distribution was clearly distinguished based on segment connections. The results of static analysis by earth pressure, etc., produced up to seven times the stress generated in Non-joint mode compared to the stress generated by Break-joint Mode. This result is consistent with the stress distribution pattern of the 2-ring beam-spring model. However, as for the stress value for the train vibration load, the stress of Break-joint Mode was greater than that of Non-joint mode. This is a different result from the static mechanics concept that a segment ring consisting of a combination of short members is integrated in the circumferential direction, resulting in a smaller stress than Non-joint mode with a relatively longer member length.

FBG sensors are capable of measuring the strain of structures easily and more durably than electric resistance gauges. Thus, many researches are dedicated to the application for the response monitoring or non-destructive evaluation of structures using FBG sensors. Additionally, the measured strains at the top and bottom of a cross-section can be transformed into the curvature of the section, which can be used to calculate its vertical displacement. Hence, this study aims to measure the dynamic strain signals of a steel section simply supported beam and to estimate the dynamic displacement from the strain signals, after which the estimated displacement is com pared with the measured displacement. The dynamic characteristics (natural frequency, damping ratio and mode shape) of the beam are predicted from both the estimated and measured displacement signals, and from the strain time history of the FBG sensors. The predicted properties are compared with those of an analytical model of the beam. The estimated displacement. However, the predicted dynamic properties from both the estimated displacements and the measured strains are well-correlated with those from the measured displacement. It is therefore appreciated that the estimation of the dynamic properties of FBG sensor signals is reasonable. Especially, the strain signal of the FBG sensor was amplified at a higher-frequency region in comparison with the displacement estimation with higher-mode properties.

The hydrodynamics and the liquid flow characteristics were investigated in an internal circulation airlift reactor with a single nozzle as a gas distributor. In an air-water system, the gas holdup in the individual flow zone and the impulse-response curve of tracer were measured at various gas velocities and reactor heights. Experimental results showed that for the higher gas velocity(>about 8 cm/s), the flow behavior of bubbles in the riser was turbulent flow due to strong bubble coalescences and the axial height of dispersion zone of large bubbles having uniform sizes in the downcomer was decreased with increasing gas velocity. And mean gas holdups in the individual flow zone and the reactor were increased with increasing gas velocities and were decreased with increasing heights of the top section of the reactor and it was decreased with increasing the height of the top section and gas velocity. Flow characteristics of liquid in the riser and the downcomer was tend to access to plug flow and the overall flow behavior of liquid was mainly varied with the size of the top section which it was assumed to be perfect mixing zone. In these conditions, liquid circulation velocities were increased with increasing gas velocities and they were higher than those by using other gas distributors.
Gas and liquid flow characteristics were investigated in an internal circulation airlift reactor using a single nozzle for a gas distributor. In three reactors with different diameters of the downcomer and heights of the riser, the gas holdup in the individual flow zone and the impulseresponse curve of tracer for an air-water system were measured for various gas velocities and reactor heights. Experimental results showed that the flow behavior of bubbles in the riser was the slug flow due to strong coalescences of bubbles and that the bubble flow pattern in the downcomer was the transition bubble flow for the smaller diameter of the downcomer, however, it was the homogeneous bubble flow for the larger one. And mean gas holdups in the individual flow zone and the reactor were greatly increased with decreasing the diameter of the downcomer for the equal ratio of height of the top section to that of the riser. Also, the mixing time was much effected by the height of the top section of reactor and for the equal ratio of height of top section to that of the riser, it was increased with increasing the diameter of the downcomer and the height of the riser. Flow characteristics of liquid were mainly varied with the bubble flow pattern in the downcomer and the size of the top section of reactor. And circulation velocities of liquid in the riser were increased with increasing gas velocities and the size of the top section of reactor, and for the equal ratio of height of top section to that of the riser, they were increased with increasing the diameter of the downcomer and the height of the riser.
