Circularly Polarized Spidron Fractal Antenna with a Conducting Reflector (반사판이 있는 스피드론 프랙탈 원형 편파 안테나)

  • In this paper, design of a microstrip-fed, Spidron fractal-shaped slot antenna with circular polarization is represented. The ground plane of the designed antenna has a slot that comprises seven right-angled triangle next to each other in a low. A reflector is placed at the bottom on microstrip feeding line to enhance the antenna gain. The optimized design was conducted by varying a length of the first right-angled triangle, location of feeding line, space between a substrate and a reflector. The proposed antenna was fabricated on a Taconic-RF35 substrate. The entire dimension of the fabricated antenna is $40{\times}40{\times}18.6mm^3$ and the reflector is 18.6 mm away from the ground plane. The measured gain of the fabricated antenna is 6.7 dBi at 4.3 GHz. The measured bandwidths of -10 dB reflection and 3 dB axial ratio are 41 % and 7.4 %, respectively.

Analysis of Hydrostatic Bulging of a Rectangular Diaphragm by Using the Energy Method (에너지법에 의한 직사각형 격막의 정수압벌징 해석)

  • The present study is concerned with the analysis of three-dimensional sheet metal forming process by the upper-bound method. For the analysis a systematic approach is necessary for the expression of geometric configuration of the deforming workpiece. In the present paper geometric configuration is constructed by three unit surfaces which are defined by sweeping the vertical section curves and boundary curve. The principal components of strain increment during the process is calculated directly from the change of geometric configuration for an arbitrary triangular element. The corresponding solution is found through optimization of the total energy consumption with respect to some parameters assumed in the velocity field and geometric profile. In order to verify the effectiveness of the present method, hydrostatic bulging of a rectangular disphragm is analyzed and the computation by the present method for the geometric shape renders the good result. From the comparison of the present results with the existing experimental results and elastic-plastic finite element solutions, good agreements have been obtained for the pressure curves, polar membrane strains and pressure distributions. The present method can thus be further applied to the analysis of other three-dimensional sheet metal forming processes.

Bandwidth Broadening for the GPS Microstrip Patch Antenna (GPS용 마이크로스트립 패치안테나의 광대역화)

  • Enhanced bandwidths of the GPS microstrip patch antennas applied by a Wilkinson power divider and a quadrature hybrid were compared. The square patch was designed, and fed by the two port probes for the circuit application. The Wilkinson power divider and quadrature hybrid circuit were designed, and applied to the patch antenna. The designed patch and two circuits were implemented on the FR4 board, and combined together. The measurement of the bandwidth within a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of 2: 1 were 36.5% (1,200~1,775 MHz) in the case of the Wilkinson power divider and 29.84% (1,230~1,700 MHz) in the case of the quadrature hybrid. Axial ratios (AR) in 3dB were 17.14% bandwidth (1,360~1,630 MHz) and 15.87% bandwidth (1,400~1,650 MHz), respectively. The application of the Wilkinson power divider is wider than that of the quadrature hybrid. The peak gains in the anechoic chamber at the GPS center frequency were measured as 2.84 dBi and 2.75 dBi, respectively.

Compact Quadruple Inverted-F Antenna(QIFA) with Circular Polarization for GPS Receiver (원형 편파를 가지는 GPS 수신용 소형 4중 Inverted-F 안테나 연구)

  • Compact quadruple inverted-f antenna(QIFA) with circular polarization for GPS receiver is proposed. Radiation efficiency is decreased when 4-port antenna is smaller. A new matching method is proposed by considering both a return loss at one port and mutual coupling between ports to increase radiation efficiency. Experimental results show that the proposed QIFA has a 3-dB beamwidth of more than 120 degrees and a front-to-back ratio of more than 15 dB. Also, the QIFA has the peak gain of -2.5 dBic and the axial ratio under 0.5 dB.

  • In this paper, quadruple polarized antenna system with a reconfigurable feeding network is presented. The proposed antenna system consists of the reconfigurable feeding network for fourth polarization such as vertical/horizontal linear polarization and right-handed/left-handed circular polarizations or 45 degree tilted vertical/horizontal linear polarization and patch antenna to receive the signals with various polarizations. In order to receive a signal in any direction, the proposed antenna is designed by electrical switches for reconfigurable polarization. The insertion loss of the designed feeding network in the proposed antenna system is approximately 1.2 dB. The measured 3 dB axial bandwidth and gain of the proposed antenna are about 2 % and 4 dBi(c).

  • Recently, hydrogen energy has been in the spotlight as an alternative to diminishing fossil fuels and as a potential solution to environmental pollution. The development of hydrogen-fueled vehicles and the demands for improved fuel efficiencies have resulted in the need to increase the volume of the hydrogen pressure vessels. Pressure vessels having an elliptical bottom, as opposed to one that is hemispherical, allow for a greater capacity. However, there are insufficient studies on the feasibility of the forming process required for an elliptical bottom. In this study, the liner capacity is calculated according to the ratios of the major to the minor axes of the elliptical bottom part in a hydrogen pressure vessel. Structural safety is verified through finite element analyses, and the results are compared to the theoretical results. The feasibility of the proposed elliptical shape of the pressure vessel bottom, while filled to maximum capacity, is validated through forming analysis.

Bandwidth Enhancement for the GPS Patch Antenna Using the Quadrature Hybrid Chip Circuit (90도 하이브리드 칩 회로를 이용한 GPS용 패치안테나의 광대역화)

  • In this paper, two ports feeding a microstrip patch antenna using a quadrature hybrid circuit was proposed to enhance the bandwidth for the global positioning system(GPS). The square patch was designed, and the probe feeding was applied. The quadrature hybrid chip circuit for two-port feeding was designed, and output ports that have a 90-degree phase difference feed to the patch antenna. The designed patch and quadrature hybrid circuit were implemented on an FR4 board, and were combined. The measurement of the bandwidth within a voltage standing wave ratio(VSWR) of 2: 1 and axial ratio(AR) in 3dB were 29 %BW(1,230~1,700 MHz) and 15.87 %BW(1,400~1,650 MHz), respectively. The peak gain at the GPS center frequency was measured at 2.75 dBi in an anechoic chamber.

Reconfigurable Polarization Patch Antenna with Y-Shaped Feed (Y형태의 급전 구조를 이용한 편파 변환 재구성 패치 안테나)

  • In this paper, a reconfigurable polarization patch antenna that uses a Y-shaped feed is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a square patch, a Y-shaped feeding structure, a PIN diode, and a bias circuit for diode operation. The structural symmetry/asymmetry of the feeding structure is determined by the on/off operation of the PIN diode that inserted into the side of one of the lines of the Y-shaped feeding structure. For the proposed reconfigurable antenna, the two microstrip lines of the feeding structure have the same length when the PIN diode operates in the on state, and the antenna exhibits linear polarization(LP). On the other hand, when the PIN diode operates in the off state, the length of one side line of the feeding structure is relatively shorter than that of the other line. Therefore, the antenna exhibits circular polarization(CP). From the measurement results, it is found that the proposed antenna exhibits good impedance matching and axial ratio. In addition, polarization switching can be easily achieved in the same operating band.

  • Self-reinforced silicon carbide was prepared by hot pressing and the control of starting phases of raw materials and its microstructural characteristics was investigated. The specimens with self-reinforced microstructure were obtained from the compacts with mixed compositions of ${\alpha}$-and ${\beta}$-SiC powders. Self-reinforced microstructure which is composed of large dispersed grains with rod-like shape and matrix with small equiaxed grains was formed by the transformation to the ${\alpha}$-SiC with 4H polytype for ${\beta}$-SiC and anisotropic grain growth during the heat treatment. Of all speimens the values of volume fraction maximum length and aspect ratio for large grains with rode-like types were the highest at the specimen with 50 vol% ${\beta}$-SiC in the starting SiC powder and therefore this specimen showed the highest fracture toughness due to the crack deflection by rod-like grains during crack propagation.

  • Recently, environmental sustainability of the transitional explosives and propellants is an issue of growing importance in energetic materials. For examples, ammonium perchlorate(AP) as an solid propellants oxidizer could create a poisonous gas and atmospheric pollutions, such as HCl. Among the several oxidizers, hydrazinium nitroformate(HNF) is an effective candidate substance for eco-friendly oxidizer, which has high density, pressure index, and less smog generating property during combustion for the thrust control system. This study was controlled the size distribution and shapes through various conditions. Length and diameter ratio(L/D) of crystals has below 1 : 3, and the particle size was two types of $200{\mu}m$ and $50{\mu}m$.
