  • Water pollution induced by animal waste is one of the major problems in managing stream water quality. In this presentation, water quality of leachate from manure compost was analyzed by pot experiments, using a rainfall simulator. Based on the limited experiment conditions, the average concentrations of COD, SS, TKN, TP were up to 2000mg/L, 24g/L, 107mg/L, 50mg/L, respectively. The higher concentrations were generally observed when the amount of manure compost was greater and rainfall intensity was lower.

  • 일본에서도 친환경에 대한 중요성이 대두되면서 축산농가의 가장 큰 문제로 지적되고 있는 '축분처리와 악취'문제를 해결하고자 다양한 노력이 이루어지고 있다. 따라서 본고는 '계분처리'와 관련하여 일본 사이다마현(기옥현)(埼玉縣)에서 산란계양계장을 경영하는 (농)세이메이농장(대표이사 시마다 마사유끼(도전정행)(嶋田正行)에서 일종의 퇴비화촉진제를 이용, 계분 처리실태를 소개함으로써 농가에 도움을 주고자 계명신문 6월 5일자에 소개된 내용을 발췌, 번역하여 소개한 것이다. 참고로 내용을 통해 퇴비화촉진제가 거명이 되는데, 이는 제품을 소개코자 한 것이 아니라 사례를 소개한 것이므로 참고했으면 한다.

우리 나라 가축분뇨의 처리기술 현황

  • 현재의 가축분뇨처리 형태와 축종별 적용대상은 표 3과 같이 분류되며, 축분 퇴비화 뇨오수 정화방식의 고액분리 형태에서 분뇨혼합물의 동시처리 즉, 깔감축사(소, 돼지), 슬러리 발효 퇴비화를 통한 무방류 시스템으로 변화되는 추세이다. 이러한 현상은 최근의 방류수질 규제강화에 따른 무방류화 저비용 단순화를 지향하고 있으며, 무방류화의 가장 큰 걸림돌은 톱밥과 같은 수분조절재 부족이라 할 수 있다. 현재 이용되고 있는 주요 시스템별 개선안은 다음과 같다. $\square$ 주요 처리 시스템 적용의 문제제기 $\circ$ 축분발효시설 - 톱밥 등 부자재 무이용을 위한 축분의 예비 건조시설 이용 - 교반식 발효기의 악취확산방지를 위하여 밀폐형 하우스 및 강제환기 장치 설치에 의한 악취 포집 및 탈취 - 중소규모 발효시설 개발 $\circ$ 화력건조 - 예비건조를 통한 톱밥, 연료비용 절감 - 악취방치 장치부착 의무화 $\circ$ 활성오니 정화시설 - 시설 운전관리 단순화 - 1차 고액분리를 통한 유입수 오염부하량 감소 및 균일화 $\circ$ 깔감축사 - 경제적으로 흡수를 극대화할 수 있는 수분조절재의 조합비 결정 및 혼합물을 깔감으로 재이용 기술개발 $\circ$ 슬러리 발효퇴비화 시설 - 톱밥 등 수분조절재 사용량 절감기술 - 증발량 극대화 기술개발 및 소요에너지 최소화기술개발 우리나라는 사계절이 뚜렷하여 외기상에 따라 편차가 심하며, 고밀도 사육 및 지역적 편중성, 경지면적 협소, 고비용 시장구조 등의 축산환경을 고려한다면 근원적으로 가축분뇨문제 해결한다는 것은 결코 쉬운 일이 아니다. 이는 저공해 사료개발에서부터 분뇨가 발생단계에서 분리, 수거할 수 있는 수거시설, 고효율 분뇨처리시스템의 정립, 액비 및 퇴비의 가공, 토양환원되었을 때 작물생장장애, 액비, 퇴비의 유통, 가축분뇨처리 정책 및 규제법 등의 각 분야에서 복합적 노력이 필요하다.

The Efficacy Assessment and Manufacture of Kitchen Garden Soil Using Livestock Manure for an Urban Agriculture (가축분뇨를 활용한 도시텃밭 재배용토 제조 및 효능성 평가)

  • In this study, manufacture of kitchen garden soil and its application on the growth of Lettuce has been performed. The optimal ratio of various raw materials for pH, total nitrogen, phosphate, cations, and salt content was found to be 49 : 35 : 10 : 5 : 1(w/w) in peatmoss, livestock manure, cocopeat, zeolite, and microbial fertilizer, respectively. In the growth experiment using Lettuce, the manufactured soil obtained 21% & 20% increase in leaf length and width, 17% increase in chlorophyll, and 22% in biomass, compared to the control.

Effect on Livestock Manure Composting by the Enriched Microbial Population (미생물에 의한 축산 폐기물 퇴비화에 미치는 영향)

  • Several kinds of thermophilic, aerobic microorganisms (Bacillus genus), metal leaching microorganisms (Thiobacillus, T. ferooxidans), and other nondegradable chemical-degrading microorganisms (Pseudomonas genus) were utilized to study the effect on composting livestock manure. Under the Carbon-Nitrogen ratio (C/N) of 35∼40 and water content of 50∼65% conditions, the composting in the cycling drum reactor showed slower composting and lower temperature increase than that of the manual reactor. Element analysis after composting indicated relatively high levels of mineral contents with the substitutional effect of chemical fertilizer. Metal analysis before and after composting showed lower As in all, Cr in pig, Pb in cow, Hg in chicken, and Cu in cow manure compost than the regulation values. Compost maturity was ascertained by the several maturity tests. Salmonella and E. cozi detection test by SS or EMB agar plate confirmed the safety from the pathogenic microorganisms. The results suggest that the inoculation of metal and some other chemical degrading microorganisms during composting might decrease metal contamination and increase composting rate.

  • The study on design criteria of solid-liquid separator for dairy farms was done by testing various screens, presses, and RPMs of screw auger with remodeled screw-press type pig-manure separator. The moisture content of separated solid increase from 68.3% to 74.2% as auger rotating speed increased from 9.8 to 29.2 RPM at 34.8 kPa of pressure and 1.0 mm of slit wedge wire screen condition. The moisture contents of separated solid were 72~77%, work efficiencies were 16~18 kg/min at 1.0 mm of slit wedge wire screen. The efficiency was higher than one at 0.5 mm of slit wedge wire screen, which was used to separate for pig manure. The best work efficiency was 18 kg/min at 42.5 kPa, 1.0 mm slit screen. The separated solid moisture content was 75% at this condition.

Variation in Nitrate Contamination of Shallow Groundwater in a Farmland in Gyeonggi-do, Korea (경기도 지역 농경지의 천부 지하수 내 질산염 오염특성과 변화)

  • Hydrogeochemistry of groundwater was studied in order to identify the influence of cow manure, distributed to a farmland as organic fertilizer, on nitrate concentrations in shallow groundwater and its spatio-temporal variations. From monitoring wells, water levels were measured using automatic data loggers, and water samples collected and analyzed in Feb., April, June and Oct. 2007. The average electric conductivity and concentration of nitrate in the groundwater show the highest levels in April and decline in subsequent sampling times. Decreases in dissolved oxygen(DO) and nitrate concentrations from April to Oct. and corresponding increases in $HCO_3$ concentrations indicate denitrification processes by microorganisms. Spatial variation of nitrate concentration appeared to be affected by the redox conditions of groundwater controlled by geochemical reactions of Mn, Fe and DOC contents.

Management Plans of Livestock Excretions from Field Scrutiny in Yeongsan Stream Basin (영산천 유역의 현장정밀조사에 기초한 가축분뇨 관리 방안)

  • A field scrutiny related to livestock excretions in Yeongsan stream basin was performed in this study. This result was used to verify the accuracy of nationwide survey result (formal document) for pollution sources by comparing them, and a management plan of livestock excretions was also suggested based on their comparison in this study. The major differences between them were 17.7% in the number of stock farms, 39.6% in the population of milk cows and 41.6% in the treatment method of pig excretions. The biggest difference to the pig case, which is currently the most problem in livestock excretions treatment, could be because of the cause that most of the farmlands, including orchard grove, used as individual treatment site for excretions played role as a dump site to reduce the cost for consignment treatment. Meanwhile, the 67% of compost heaps was illegally left alone in field without the rain shelter and could flow in the stream if it is raining.

Economic and Environmental Sustainability Assessment of Livestock Manure Gasification for Fuel Gas Production (축분 가스화를 통한 연료가스 생산 공정의 경제적, 환경적 지속가능성 평가)

  • This research evaluates the sustainability of gasifying livestock manure to produce fuel gas from an economic and carbon emission perspective. The entire process, including gasification, fuel gas purification, and pipeline installation to transport the produced fuel gas to the demanding industrial complex, is analyzed for realistic feasibility. The study is conducted using an ASPEN PLUS simulation with experimental data. The results of the economic and CO2 life cycle assessments confirm that the fuel gas produced from livestock manure is competitive with natural gas despite having a lower calorific value. When used as a fuel with a high hydrogen content, the fuel gas emits less CO2 per calorific value, making it more environmentally friendly. A scenario analysis is also performed to determine the expected economics, with price competitiveness being influenced by several factors. Although a significant decrease in natural gas prices could reduce the price competitiveness of the proposed process, it can still be supported by government policies. The cash flow analysis also confirms the economic viability of the process.
