Comparative thickening and dewatering characteristics of municipal wastewater sludge were investigated in terms of separated and combined treatment of primary and secondary BNR sludge. Also, various conditioning methods such as cation polymer addition, steam and ultrasonication treatment were examined to improve dewaterability of sludge. The dewaterability was measured by using specific resistant test, wedge zone simulator and centrifuge. The result of the sludge thickening test revealed that separated thickening was better in terms of solids recovery and supernatant quality. Particularly, the thickening of primary sludge with high solids (about 3.5% TS) showed very poor solid separation. The addition of cation polymer showed better conditioning characteristic for dewatering and the optimal polymer dosage was 0.26% for primary sludge, 0.43% for secondary sludge and 0.38% for combined sludge. Contrary to the result of the thickening, the dewatering test revealed that dewatering of the combined sludge is better than that of separated sludge, representing better solids separation and filtrate quality. The polymer addition was essential to improve dewaterability in filter (belt) press type dewatering but it was inefficient for the dewatering of secondary sludge only. The centrifuge type dewatering showed better performance and the dewaterability was slightly improved when the polymer was added. Based on the results of this research a sustainable sludge treatment process, particularly in terms of the recycle water quality and solids recovery, was proposed.

This study was conducted to reduce benzo(a)pyrene in sesame oil by addition of several kinds of absorbents (active carbon, diatomaceous earth, kaolin, acid clay, perlite, and silicate). Sesame oil containing 4.1 ppb benzo(a)pyrene was stirred with 0.2% (w/w) several kinds of adsorbents at $40^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. Active carbon resulted in the highest reduction of benzo(a)pyrene in sesame oil among the investigated adsorbents, and decolorization was observed only by using silicate. Reduction of benzo(a)pyrene was optimized by controlling amount the of active carbon, stirring time, and stirring temperature. Futher, 4.1 ppb benzo(a)pyrene in sesame oil was reduced by up to 0.91 ppb by adding 0.5% (w/w) active carbon and stirring for 30 min at $70^{\circ}C$. Optimized conditions were applied to sesame oil (2.14~4.11 ppb) purchased from a Gyeonggi traditional market, and benzo(a)pyrene in sesame oil was reduced by up 0.43~0.86 ppb.
This study was conducted to investigate the biochemical properties of isolated bacteria, low temperature tolerant methane-producing clostridia which were selected for using them as inoculum to anaerobic fermentation of agricultural and livestock wastes at low temperature. The results were; 1. Low temperature tolerant methane-producing clostridia were isolated from the samples which showed the high methanogenesis rate by enrichment culture at low temperature in cellulose medium. These clostridia, Clostridium botulinum SRC-64, Clostridium scatologens SRC-91 and Clostridium tyrobutyricum SRC-100, were isolated from swampy sediment at latitude $56.9^{\circ}N$, lake sediment IV at latitude $55.0^{\circ}N$, and tidal land soil II at latitude $37.0^{\circ}N$, respectively. The optimum growth temperature for these isolates was $37^{\circ}C$ and the minimum, around $10^{\circ}C$. They all had detectable amount of $F_{420}$, specific coenzyme of methanogens. 2. As anaerobic fermentation products of glucose SRC-64 produced $H_2$, acetic, isovaleric and caproic acid, SRC-91 produced $H_2$, propionic, butyric, valeric, and caproic acid, and SRC-100 produced only acetic and propionic acid. The isolates were produced $CH_4$ ranged from 2.6 to 8.68 n moles/ml for 2 days at $13^{\circ}C$.

This study was carried out to determine the optimum conditions for making soybean curd(or tofu) from defatted soybean flour.. Heating soymilk above $80^{\circ}C$ for at least $5{\sim}10\;min$ was necessary for soybean protein to form aggregates during subsequent coagulation process with glucono-${\delta}$-lactone(GDL). For maximum yield of tofu, with water content of approximately 80%, extra addition of 20 g of oil and 5 g of GDL per 425 g of soybean flour was needed. Maintaining soymilk temperature around $75^{\circ}C$ for 5 min was necessary when GDL was used as the coagulant.
The maximum residue limits of pyrimisulfan is set as 0.05 mg/kg in rice in 2011, so very reliable and sensitive analytical method for pyrimisulfan residues is required for ensuring the food safety of pyrimisulfan residues in agricultural products. In this study, a rapid and sensitive analytical method was developed and validated using liquid chromatography electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for the determination of herbicide pyrimisulfan residues in agricultural products. Average recoveries of pyrimisulfan ranged from 88.7 to 99.3% at the spiked level of 0.005 mg/kg and from 90.1 to 94.2% at the spiked level of 0.05 mg/kg, while the relative standard deviation was less than 10%. Linear range of pyrimisulfan was between 0.01~1.0 ${\mu}g/mL$ with the correlation coefficient ($r^2$) 0.999 and limit of quantification was 0.005 mg/kg. The results of method validation were satisfied Codex guideline. The results revealed that the developed and validated analytical method is possible for pyrimisulfan determination in agricultural product samples and will be used as an official analytical method.

It has been known that small solid particles act as a stabilizer in pickering emulsion system. In this study, we successfully prepared stable pickering emulsion in n-hexylalcohol and water system with $TiO_2$ whose surface was treated by alkylsilane. The optimum condition to prepare pickering emulsion stabilized by $TiO_2$ particles was determined by amount of $TiO_2$ particles and ratio of water and oil phase. The type of pickering emulsion was dependent on wettability of particles for water and n-hexylalcohol. When the amount of $TiO_2$ particles increased up to 5.00 wt%, the stability of pickering emulsion was showed to be improved. The most stable pickering emulsion was prepared in the case of W/O type which has the ratio of oil and water phase (3 : 7). We tried to prepare porous $SiO_2-TiO_2$ composite pigments using a pickering emulsion as template at the optimal condition. Porous pigments were synthesized with Ludox HS-30 as an inorganic material by sol-gel process. The characteristics and shape of porous pigments were measured by optical microscope, SEM, BET, XRD and EDS.

Bentazone is benzothiadiazole group herbicide, and used to foliage treatment. This herbicide have already been widely used for cereals and vegetables planting in worldwide. This experiment was conducted to establish a determination method for bentazone residue in crops using HPLC-UVD/MS. Bentazone residue was extracted with acetone (adjusted pH 1 with phosphoric acid) from representative samples of five raw products which comprised hulled rice, soybean, apple, green pepper, and Chinese cabbage. The extract was diluted with saline water, and dichloromethane partition was followed to recover bentazone from the aqueous phase. Florisil column chromatography was additionally employed for final clean up of the extract. The bentazone was quantitated by HPLC with UVD, using a YMC ODS AM 303 ($4.6{\times}250$ mm) column. The crops were fortified with bentazone at 3 levels per crop. Mean recovery ratio were ranged from 82.0% for a 0.2 mg/kg in apple to 97.9% for a 0.02 mg/kg in Chinese cabbage. The coefficients of variation were ranged from 0.5% for a 0.02 mg/kg in soybean to 9.7% for a 0.02 mg/kg in Chinese cabbage. Quantitative limit of bentazone was 0.02 mg/kg in representative five crop samples. A LC/MS with selected-ion monitoring was also provided to confirm the suspected residue. Therefore, this analytical method was reproducible and sensitive enough to determine the residue of bentazone in agricultural commodities.
A recovery process of Ruthenium from waste electronic scrap has been investigated by means of nitric acid leaching as a part of development for scrap pretreatment process to obtaining an optimum conditions for removal of removing various impurities such as Pb, Bi, Zn, Al, Bi, Ag Fe, Co, Zr, Si. From the experiments, 90% of Pb leached with 250 g/l pulp density in 10-15% nitric acid. Leaching behavior of Ba was also similar to that of the Pb, but those of other metal impurities, such as Zn, Al, Bi, Ag, Fe, Co, Zr, showed different behavior, in which the dissolution rate increased as the concentration of nitric acid in solution is increased up to the 10% $HNO_3$ in solution and then it was constant above 10% $HNO_3$ concentrations. Meanwhile, the dissolution of Ru in $HNO_3$ solution was less then 100ppm, and that the total content of Ru in undissolved residue scrap was resulted in an increment of 50%.
Effect of water back-flushing period (FT) was investigated in hybrid water treatment process of carbon ultrafiltration and polypropylene (PP) beads coated with photocatalyst, and membrane effect was studied by comparing the previous studies with carbon microfiltration or alumina ultrafiltration, microfiltration membranes. FT 6 min was the most effective to control initial membrane fouling and optimal condition because the membrane fouling resistance was low until initial 60 min and the maximum total permeate volume was acquired at this FT. The turbidity treatment efficiency was high beyond 98.6%, and did not depend on FT, which was same with the previous result of carbon or alumina microfiltration. The organic matters treatment efficiency was the highest value of 98.2% at FT 6 min, which was almost same trend with the previous result of alumina microfiltration. Then the organic matters treatment efficiency of carbon microfiltration was the minimum at no back-flushing (NBF) and increased as decreasing FT, but that of alumina ultrafiltration was the maximum at NBF and also increased as decreasing FT. Therefore it means that water back-flushing effect on the organic matters treatment efficiency had a different mechanism depending on pore size in spite of the same material membranes.
Numerical analysis was done to evaluate the fluid distribution inside of the mixing quencher to increase the reaction efficiency of the aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution in the scrubbing column which is used for simultaneous desulfurization and denitrification. Effective injection of the aqueous hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) solution in the mixing quencher has major effects for improving the reaction efficiency in the scrubbing column by enhancing the mixing of the aqueous $H_2O_2$ solution with the exhaust gas. The current study is to optimize the array of nozzles and the spray angles of the aqueous $H_2O_2$ solution in the mixing quencher by using the computational method. Main concerns of the analysis are how to enhance the uniformity of the $H_2O_2$ concentration distribution in the internal flow. Numerical analysis was done to check the distribution of the internal flow in the mixing quencher in terms of RMS values of the $H_2O_2$ concentration at the end of quencher. The concentration distribution of $H_2O_2$ at the end of is evaluated with respect to the different array of the nozzle pipes and the nozzle tip angles, and we also analyzed the turbulence formation and fluid mixing in the zone. The effect of the spray angle was evaluated with respect to the mixing efficiency in different flow directions. The optimized mixing quencher had the nozzle array at location of 0.3 m from the inlet duct surface and the spray angle is $15^{\circ}$ with the co-current flow. The RMS value of the $H_2O_2$ concentration at the end of the mixing quencher was 12.4%.
