In this paper, we propose a new method to visualize different vector field patterns from density data. We use moving least squares (MLS), which is used in physics-based simulations and geometric processing. However, typical MLS does not take into account the nature of density, as it is interpolated to a higher order through vector-based constraints. In this paper, we design an algorithm that incorporates Monte Carlo-based weights into the MLS to efficiently account for the density characteristics implicit in the input data, allowing the algorithm to represent different forms of white noise. As a result, we experimentally demonstrate detailed vector fields that are difficult to represent using existing techniques such as naive MLS and divergence-constrained MLS.

Sihs minimum strain energy density criterion(SED) often used in the mixed mode problem has the ambiguity of the choice of minimum values. In this paper, as the method to solve the problem of SED, maximum minimum strain energy density criterion is proposed that the crack propagates in the direction of having the maximum among the minimum values of modified strain energy density factor(MS), i.e., sign($\sigma$(sub)$\theta$).Smin.

The problem studied in this paper is the channel routing problem to assign points with p colors on the upper row of the channel to points on the lower row in order to minimize its density. The case that the points on the upper row has an identical color or only two colors is studied in [1, 2]. This paper generalizes that to the points with p colors. First, we consider the problem to determine whether there is an assignment with density less than or equal to d, when an arbitrary d is given. We show that the problem is solved in O(p(n+m)log(n+m)) time. Using this result, we resolve the problem to fine an assignment with a minimum density.

During deep drilling, confined aquifers can present various challenges such as the inability to remove cuttings, rapid groundwater influx, and mud loss. Particularly in flowing well conditions, it is essential to apply the suitable mud density since the aquifer can generates an overpressurized condition. This paper proposes a method for determining the suitable mud density while drilling (SMD) through confined aquifers using mud window analysis and applies it to a case study. The minimum mud density at each depth, which represents the lower limit of the mud window, is determined by the equivalent mud density pore pressure gradient (or by adding a trip margin) at that depth. The pore pressure gradient of a confined aquifer can be calculated using the piezometric level or well head pressure of the aquifer. As the borehole reaches the confined aquifer, there is a significant increase in pore pressure gradient, which gradually decreases with increasing depth. The SMD to prevent a kick can be determined as the maximum value among the minimum mud densities in the open hole section. After entering the confined aquifer, SMD is maintained as the minimum mud density at the top of the aquifer during the drilling of the open hole section. Additionally, appropriate casing installation can reduce the SMD, minimizing the risk of mud loss or invasion into the highly permeable aquifer.
In recent years the field application of high performance concrete has been increased to improve the quality and reliability of concrete structures. The mix design of the high performance concrete includes the 2 set-off mixture theory of mortar and coarse aggregate and that of paste and aggregate. The 2 set-off mixture theory of mortar and coarse aggregate has a problem of having to determine its value through repeated experiments in applying the rheological characteristics of mortar. The 2 set-off mixture theory of paste and aggregate has never been applied to high performance concrete since it doesn't take into account the relationship between optimum fine aggregate ratio and unit volume of powder nor does it consider the critical aggregate volume ratio. As the mixture theory of these high performance concretes, unlike that of general concrete, focuses on flowability and charge-ability, it does not consider intensity features in mix design also, the unit quantity of the materials used is determined by trial and error method in the same way as general concrete. This study is designed to reduce the frequency of trial and error by accurately calculating the optimum fine aggregate ratio, which makes it possible to minimize the aperture of aggregate in use by introducing the maximum density theory to the mix design of high performance concrete. Also, it is intended to propose a simple and reasonable mix design for high performance concrete meeting the requirements for both intensity and flowability. The mix design proposed in this study may reduce trial and error and conveniently produce high performance concrete which has self-chargeability by using more than the minimum unit volume of powder and optimum fine aggregate with minimum porosity.
The minimum density power divergence estimation has been a popular topic in the field of robust estimation for since Basu et al. (1988). The minimum density power divergence estimator has strong robustness properties with the little loss in asymptotic efficiency relative to the maximum likelihood estimator under model conditions. However, a limitation in applying this estimation method is the algebraic difficulty on an integral involved in an estimation function. This paper considers a minimum density power divergence estimation method with approximated divergence avoiding such difficulty. As an example, we consider the normal-exponential convolution model introduced by Bolstad (2004). The estimated divergence in this case is too complicated; consequently, a Laplace approximation is employed to obtain a manageable form. Simulations and an empirical study show that the minimum density power divergence estimators based on an approximated estimated divergence for the normal-exponential model perform adequately in terms of bias and efficiency.
