Recently, various evaluations concerning structural stability under construction step and completely constructed step have been executed during a Long-span Arch Bridge designing procedure. However, the breakage of cable-hangers of arched bridge in unexpected accident or periodic cable-replacement has not been considered. Therefore, the purpose of this study is that analyzing structural safety of arched bridge when the cable-hangers being fractured by that reasons. Dynamic analysis are performed by idealizing impact load to three types of impact functions as fracturing the cables. Consequently, when the hangers are fractured, the maximum tensile force by dynamic analysis is larger than those by static analysis. Therefore, the dynamic analysis is demanded to accurately obtain the responses for the structural stability with a realistic impact loading model in the breakage and replacement of cable hangers of long-span arched bride. Moreover, the analysis method and results in this study can be used to basic criteria in design.
In this paper, static perforation tests are conducted to predict the penetration energy for the composite laminates subjected to high velocity impact. Three methods are used to analyze the perforation energy accurately. The first method is to select the perforation point using the AE sensor signal energy, the second method is to retest the tested specimen and use the difference between initial and retested perforation energy, and the third method is to select the perforation point based on the maximum loading point in the retested load-displacement curve of the tested specimen. The predicted perforation energy results are presented and verified by comparing with those by the high velocity tests.

In this study, impact behavior of aluminium and glass-fiber structure is studied under low impact velocity. Compression test is carried out to investigate the compressive strength of the specimens. The degree of damage is observed using microscopy and compared with the experimental analysis data. The maximum load capacity, impact strength and elastic energy of glass-fiber honeycomb sandwich panel are more than the aluminium honeycomb sandwich panel.

A time-frequency analysis method was developed to analyze the dispersive waves caused by impact loads in structural members such as beams and plates. Stress waves generated by ball drop and pencil lead break were recorded by ultrasonic transducers and acoustic emission (AE) sensors. Wavelet transform (WT) using Gabor function was employed to analyze the dispersive waves in the time-frequency domain, and then to find the arrival time of the waves as a function of frequency. The measured group velocities in the beam and the plate were compared with the predictions based on the Timoshenko beam theory and Rayleigh-Lamb frequency equations, respectively. The agreements were found to be very good.
In this study, the fracture behavior by low velocity impact damage and the tendencies of impact energy absorption were investigated. Low velocity impact tests were performed using a mini tower drop weight impact tester, and graphite powder, carbon black and milled carton fiber were chosen as additives. Addition of graphite powder increased the maximum load and maintained the stress long until the total penetration happened. At the content of 9 vol%, they showed the maximum of 42% improvement in impact strength compared composites containing no additives. At the test with low impact energy of 0.4 J, impact energy was consumed by delamination in the composite containing no additives, however, as graphite contents increased, the tendency of failure changed to the penetration of the specimen.

In this study, mechanical property on the composite material of aluminum foam core is investigated by simulation analysis. Impact energies such as 50J, 70J, and 100J are applied to the specimen model. The maximum load occurs at 3.4ms for 50J, 3.2ms for 70J, and 3.2ms for 100J respectively. The striker penetrates the upper face sheet, causing the core to be damaged at 50J test but the lower face sheet remains intact with no damage. It results in occurring with the energy of 52 J. At 70J test, it penetrates the upper face sheet and penetrated the core. And the striker causes the lower face sheet with damage. And it results in occurring with the energy of 65 J. Finally at 100J test, the striker penetrated both the upper face sheet and core and even the lower face sheet. The load becomes maximum at the time when striker penetrates through the upper plate and it rapidly reduced. And then the load increases rapidly when reaching the lower face sheet. And it decreases again. It results in occurring with the energy of 95 J.
Composite structures have been designed by stacking the laminae with different stacking angles to meet the required mechanical performance. Although the induced stresses on the composite structures under the external loads usually differ depending on the location, we determined the stacking sequence based on the maximum stress, which leads to low efficiency and generally is not the optimum design. Recently, piecewise integrated composites (PICs) were suggested for solving this inefficiency. PICs assume the perfect bonding between adjacent pieces, but this is ideal and hard to accomplish. Therefore, the overlap at the boundary is essential to prevent separation from each other. In this study, we investigated the effect of the overlap design on the impact failure mode of PIC plates. We fabricated the sample composite plates with different overlap designs using the fast curing carbon prepreg and conducted the impact tests according to ASTM D 7136. We found that PICs had different failure modes according to the overlap design, which lead the changes of absorbed impact energies as well as impact load curves.

The supersonic shock wave generated by fully coupled explosion will change into subsonic shock wave, plastic wave, and elastic wave consecutively as the wave propagates through rock mass. While the estimation of the blast-induced peak pressure was the main aim of the companion paper, this paper will concentrate on the estimation of the rise time of blast-induced pressure. The rise time can be expressed as a function of explosive density, isentropic exponent, detonation velocity, exponential coefficient of the peak pressure attenuation, dynamic yield stress, plastic wave velocity, elastic wave velocity, rock density, Hugoniot parameters, etc. Parametric analysis was performed to pinpoint the most influential parameter that affects the rise time and it was found that rock properties are more sensitive than explosive properties. The probabilistic distribution of the rise time is evaluated by the Rosenblueth'S point estimate method from the probabilistic distributions of explosive properties and rock properties. Numerical analysis was performed to figure out the effect of rock properties and explosive properties on the uncertainty of blast-induced vibration. Uncertainty analysis showed that uncertainty of rock properties constitutes the main portion of blast-induced vibration uncertainty rather than that of explosive properties. Numerical analysis also showed that the loading rate, which is the ratio of the peak blasting pressure to the rise time, is the main influential factor on blast-induced vibration. The loading rate is again more influenced by rock properties than by explosive properties.
The notched Charpy impact test is one of the most prevalent techniques used to characterize the effect of high impulse loads on polymeric materials. In this study, a method of analysis in nylon plastic materials is suggested to evaluate the critical strain energy release rate for variation of notch angles from the Charpy impact energy measurement. Instrumented Charpy impact tester was used to extract ancillary information concerning fracture parameters in addition to total fracture properties and maximum critical load. The dynamic stress intensity factor of nylon plastic material was calculated for the ASTM Charpy specimen from the obtained maximum critical load. Also, the finite element model was developed to figure out the stress distributions for Charpy specimen with different notch angles subject to 3 point bending load which is equivalent to the load applied in the experiment.
This study was performed to induce a quality improvement and standardization of materials used for greenhouse. For this purpose, physical and mechanical properties of agricultural films for greenhouse were measured by kinds and thickness of the films. The properties are composed of impact, tensile, tear propagation strength and light transmittance. The results were summarized as follows. 1. At the impact test result of the falling dart, the thicker the film, the greater the impact strength of soft film. The impact weight at 50 percents is from 158g to 213g and the strength of low density polyethylene(LDPE) film is higher than the rest of any other films. 2. Seeing the leveling of the impact rupture, maximum impact weight which was ruptured very little ranges from 62g to 192g. The impact strength of 0.1mm films was higher than that of 0.05mm as from 1.8 to 3.2 times. 3. Tensile weight covers from 0.95kg to 2.22kg in the test materials, and the weight of lengthwise film is larger than that of width. LDPE film has high value of tensile weight. Elongation range is from 345 to 102 percent and lengthwise elongation is greater than width as much as from 1.4 to 2.7 times. 4. Tea. propagation strength ranges from 80.5kg/cm to 121.7kg/cm, and unlike which of LDPE film has high value, EVA film has low value in the films tested. The width strength is higher than the lengthwise. 5. The light transmittance of the soft film is about 78-92 percent in the range of ultraviolet ray, but has high value in the visible ray range.
