Growth of Bay Scallop, Argopeten irradians at Different Rearing Depths (해만가리비, Argopecten irradians의 양성 수심에 따른 성장)

  • A comparative study on the effect of rearing depths at 2 (surface) and 5 (bottom) m on growth of the scallop was undertaken in Nam-myeon coastal area during June to December, 1997. There were very little difference in the levels of temperature (12.2 ~24.5$^{\circ}C$), salinity (27.3 ~33.1$\textperthousand) and dissolved oxygen (>7.05 mg/l) at a given month. But the chlorophyll level fluctuated between 1.2 and 11.0 $\mu g/l$ at the surface but below 2 $\mu g/l$ at the bosom. Highest phytoplankton density occurred in August and Ceratium dominated it during the period from June to October. Mean growth of the bay scallop at surface and bottom for the six months rearing period was as follows; 0.19 and 0.16 mm/day for shell height, and 0.16 and 0.12 g/day for total weight. Maximum predicted values of shell height calculated by von Bertalanffy growth model were 52.62 mm for the surface and 46.73 mm for the bottom reared scallop. Survival of the scallop was higher (80 %) for the surface group than that at the bottom (60%).

Effects of Feeding Levels of Barley Grains on Growth Performance and Carcass Characteristics of Hanwoo Bulls (한우 육성 비육 시 보리 급여수준이 증체와 육질에 미치는 효과)

  • The present study was carried out to determine the effects of feeding levels of barley grain in diets of Hanwoo on the growth performance and carcass characteristics of Hanwoo. Twenty Hanwoo bull calves (initial mean body wt. 99kg) were randomly divided to examine the effects of 5 feeding levels of barley grains(addition levels: 0, 0 and 40% for FII40; 0, 0 and 60% for FII60; 0, 20 and 40% for F2040; and 0, 20 and 60% for F2060 during the growing, early fattening and late fattening periods, respectively) on growth performance and meat quality. Body weight was not affected by the feeding level of barley grains through the whole experimental period, although the body weight of Hanwoo bulls fed FII40 diet at 24 months old of age tended to be lower(591.5kg) than that of other animals(606.2~614.6kg). However, body weight gain in the bulls of the FII60 diet was slightly increased(P<.19). The feeding levels of barley grains did not influence on fasting body weight, carcass weight, carcass rate, lean meat, retailed cut, KPH fat and bone yield. The lean meat yield(89.82%) and fat yield(20.28%) tended to increase in Hanwoo bulls fed the F2060 compared with other treatments. Feeding of the diets of FII40 resulted in the higher marbling scores as 3.75, respectively than other diets.

수소처리와 후성장층의 특성이 다이아몬드 박막의 전계방출 특성에 미치는 영향

  • 화학증착법으로 증착된 다이아몬드 박막은 우수한 전기적 특성과 뛰어난 화학적, 열적 안정성 때문에 전계방출소재로 많은 관심을 불러 일으키고 있다. 다이아몬드 박막의 전계방출은 저전계에서 일어나는 것으로 알려져 있으며, 저전계방출의 원인을 규명하려는 많은 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 한편, 다이아몬드 박막의 전계방출전류는 금속기판의 사용에 의한 기판/다이아몬드 접촉의 개선, 다이아몬드 박막내의 흑연성분의 조절에 의한 구조변화, 보론이나 인 (P), 질소의 도핑, 수소 플라즈마나 cesium 등의 금속을 이용한 표면처리 등의 여러 방법에 의하여 향상된다는 것이 입증되었다. 그 외에 메탄과 대기 분위기 처리, 암모니아 분위기에서의 레이저 조사도 전계방출특성을 향상시키는 것으로 보고되었다. 그러나, 다이아몬드 박막의 성장후 구조적 특성이 다른 박막의 후성장이나 열분해된 운자수소 처리가 다이아몬드 박막의 전계방출특성에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구는 지금까지 이루어지지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 수소처리와 후성장이 다이아몬드 박막의 전계방출특성에 미치는 영향을 고찰하고 이로부터 그 원인을 규명하고자 하였다. 다이아몬드 박막은 hot-filament 화학증착법을 이용하여 증착하였다. 후성장한 다잉아몬드 박막내의 흑연성분과 박막의 두께를 체계적으로 조절하여 후성장 박막의 구조적 특성과 그 두께의 영향을 확인할 수 있었다. 후성장층내의 흑연성분과 두께가 증가할수록 전계방출특성은 향상되다가 저하되었다. 한편, 다이아몬드 박막을 성장시킨 후 수소분위기 처리를 함에 따라 전계방출특성은 향상되었지만 수소처리시간이 5분 이상으로 증가함에 따라 그 특성은 저하되었다. 본 연구에서는 수소처리와 후성장시 나타나는 전계방출특성의 변화 원인을 규명하고자 한다.기판위에서 polymer-like Carbon 구조는 향상되는 경향을 보였다.0 mm인 백금 망을 마스크로 사용하여 실제 3차원 미세구조를 제작하여 보았다. 그림 1에서 제작된 구조물의 SEM 사진을 보여주었으며, 식각된 면의 조도가 매우 뛰어나며 모서리의 직각성도 우수함을 확인할 수 있다. 이와 같이 도출된 시험 조건을 기초로 하여 리소그래피 후에 전기 도금을 이용한 금속 몰드 제작 및 이온빔 리소그래피 장점을 최대한 살릴수 있는 미세구조 제작에 대한 연구를 계속 추진할 계획이다. 비정질 Si1-xCx 박막을 증착하여 특성을 분석한 결과 성장된 박막의 성장률은 Carbonfid의 증가에 따라 다른 성장특성을 보였고, Silcne(SiH4) 가스량의 감소와 함께 박막의 성장률이 둔화됨을 볼 수 있다. 또한 Silane 가스량이 적어지는 영역에서는 가스량의 감소에 의해 성장속도가 둔화됨을 볼 수 있다. 또한 Silane 가스량이 적어지는 영역에서는 가스량의 감소에 의해 성장속도가 줄어들어 성장률이 Silane가스량에 의해 지배됨을 볼 수 있다. UV-VIS spectrophotometer에 의한 비정질 SiC 박막의 투과도와 파장과의 관계에 있어 유리를 기판으로 사용했으므로 유리의투과도를 감안했으며, 유리에 대한 상대적인 비율 관계로 투과도를 나타냈었다. 또한 비저질 SiC 박막의 흡수계수는 Ellipsometry에 의해 측정된 Δ과 Ψ값을 이용하여 시뮬레이션한 결과로 비정질 SiC 박막의 두께를 이용하여 구하였다. 또한 Tauc Plot을 통해 박막의 optical band gap을 2.6~3.7eV로 조절할 수 있었다. 20$0^{\circ}C$이상으로 증가시켜도 광투과율은 큰 변화를 나타내지 않았다.부터

Effect of Selected Spat on Growth of Bay Scallop (Argopecten irradians) During Aquaculture (해만가리비 Argopecten irradians 양식시 성장에 미치는 치패의 선발 효과)

  • In Nam-myeon coastal area of southern sea, Korea, the following hydrobiological conditions prevailed during 1997: water temperature: 12.6 ~24.5 $^{\circ}C$ ; Salinity: 27.32 ~33.$10 \textperthousand$, Dissolved oxygen: 7.05 $ml/L$ and Chlorophyll a: 1.69 ~ 7.40 $\mu $/L. Phytoplankton, dominated by Ceratium sp, peaked during June-July. Mean growth rates of the bay scallop of selected and non-selected groups cultured for 185 days in this area from July to December, 1997 were 0.17 and 0.19 mm/day for shell height, and 0.17 and 0.16 g/day for total weight, respectively. Maximum predicted values of shell height, calculated by von Bertalanffy growth model, were 54.98 mm for the selected and 52.62 mm for the non-selected groups. Survival of the selected and non-selected groups was 80.0 and 87.0%, respectively.

Temporal Changes of Limiting Nutrients and Phytoplankton Growth Rate in Lake Paldang (팔당호 식물플랑크톤의 제한영양염과 성장률의 경시적 변화)

  • This study was conducted to determine limiting nutrients and the physiological characteristics of phytoplankton in response of nutrients in Lake Paldang from March 2002 to October 2002. A field research was conducted along with laboratory batch culture experiment to find the limiting nutrients and the growth kinetics. According the results of Chl. a TP relationship, TN/TP ratio, and nutrient addition bioassay, phosphorus appeared to be a major limiting nutrient in Lake Paldang and thus the lake productivity was greatly influenced by it. P limitation for the phytoplankton of Lake Paldang varied with season, and the possibility of limitation by nitrogen and silica also occurred. The degree of P limitation was greatest during spring when the concentration of dissolved phosphorus is relatively much lower than summer and autumn. The maximum growth rate (${\mu}_{max}$) and half saturation concentration ($K_u$) of Lake Paldang phytoplankton ranged from 0.8${\sim}$1.1$day^1$ and from 0.1${\sim}$O.8${\mu}M$, respectively. $K_u$ was highest during May ($0.8{\mu}M$) and the lowest during September ($0.1{\mu}M$). Such result may be induced by the phytoplankton cell quota that showed the lowest concentration ($0.13{\mu}gP/{\mu}gChl.$ a) during May. The growth kinetics showed that phytoplankton growth in Lake Paldang was faster during summer and autumn than spring, suggesting that the Potential of algal bloom is high after the summer monsoon season.

A Correlation Study for the Prediction of the Maximum Heat Release Rate in Closed-Compartments of Various Configurations (다양한 형상의 밀폐된 구획에서 최대 열발생률 예측을 위한 상관식 검토)

  • In a closed-compartment with various configurations, the correlation that can predict the maximum heat release rate (HRR) with the changes in internal volume and fire growth rate was investigated numerically. The volume of the compartment was controlled by varying the length ratio based on the bottom surface shape of the ISO 9705 fire room, where the ceiling height was fixed to 2.4 m. As a main result, the effect of a change in ceiling height on the maximum HRR was examined by a comparison with a previous study that considered the change in ceiling height. In addition, a more generalized correlation equation was proposed that could predict the maximum HRR in closed-compartments regardless of the changes in ceiling height. This correlation had an average error of 7% and a maximum error of 19% for various fire growth rates when compared with the numerical results. Finally, the applicability of the proposed correlation to representative fire compartments applied to the domestic performance-based design (PBD) was examined. These results are expected to provide useful information on predicting the maximum HRR caused by flashover in closed-compartments as well as the input information required in a fire simulation.

Antioxidative Activities and Antiproliferation Effects on Oral Carcinoma KB Cell of the Brazilin from Caesalpinia sappan L. (소목(Caesalpinia sappan L.)에서 분리한 Brazilin의 항산화 활성과 구강상피암 KB 세포주의 증식억제효과)

  • Caesalpinia sappan L. has long been commonly used in oriental folk medicines and as dyes materials. To investigate the antioxidative activities and antiproliferation effects of brazilin from C. sappan heart wood, the MeOH soluble extract was successively fractionated by using hexane, $CHCl_{3}$, EtOAc, BuOH, MeOH, and $H_{2}O$. In these fractions, we were purified brazilin from EtOAc fraction which partitioned to 3.94% of the highest yields. The effects of brazilin and the extracts on human oral carcinoma cells (KB) by MTT assay and their antioxidant activities by DPPH, TCA assay and Fenton reaction were tested. The results showed that the brazilin could inhibits the proliferation of KB cells and obviously decreased the production of nitric oxide of the cells. When the concentration of the brazilin reached to $100\;{\mu}g/ml$, the inhibition percentage of the cell growth was about 60%. In assay on antioxidant activities, The results showed that brazilin exhibit the highest capacity of DPPH free radical scavenging effects among tested extracts. When the concentration of brazilin reached to 1 mg/ml, the lipid peroxide inhibition and radical inhibition activities were determined to be 65.0% and 85.8%, respectively. These results are suggest that brazilin have stronger antiproliferation effect on KB cell and antioxidant properties.

Production of Tannin from Hairy Root Cultures of Rheum undulatum L. (대황 모상근의 배양에 의한 tannin 생산)

  • Hairy root cultures of Rheum undulatum L. induced by a co-culture with Agrobacterium rhizogenes ATCC15834 were established and the production of tannin in hairy roots was investigated. The growth of hairy roots was maximized in WPM liquid medium supplemented with 2 mg/L IAA, and 3% sucrose (pH 5.7). The highest yields of tannin were obtained from WPM medium containing 0.5 mg/L ABA, and 5% sucrose (pH 5.5). The growth and tannin production in hairy root cultures were influenced by the addition of elicitors to the medium. The addition of 50 mg/L chitosan enhanced the production of tannin with about 1.7 fold.

Behavior of the Crack Initiation, Transition and Fatigue Crack Growth of Rail Steel (레일강의 균열발생·천이 및 피로균열진전거동)

  • In the present study, crack initiation criteria, static failure and tensile mode fatigue behavior for a rail steel are evaluated to assure the railway vehicle's safety. The transverse fissure, which is the most critical damage in the rail, is initiated by the maximum shear stress and its location is subsurface. In addition, the possibility of transition from the shear mode to the mixed mode increases with increasing the length of subsurface crack. Because of the brittleness by the welding, the fracture toughness of the welded part is lower than of the base metal. For low ${\Delta}K$, the stage II fatigue crack growth rates of the welded part is slower than of the base metal but, for high ${\Delta}K$, this different behavior for fatigue crack growth rate is nearly diminished. These trends are more remarkable for low stress ratio, R=0.1. It is believed that this behavior is caused by the change of the microstructure which that of the welded part is coarser than of base metal.

A Prospect for Growth and Economic Size of Foods-for-Elderly Industry -Focused on Health Functional Foods and Foods for Special Dietary Uses- (고령친화식품산업의 성장과 규모 전망 -건강기능식품과 특수용도식품을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to predict the economic size of foods-for-elderly market, which will be valuable information for establishing related policy and backup system. After setting the scope of related industry, detailed information for current market situation was investigated and a systematic forecast for market changes in the future was performed. Economic growth, changes in consumer expenditure and economic status of the elderly, current subscription of medical insurance and saving for pension were reflected. In addition, a survey toward related firms was completed and changes in aged population and incidence of chronic disease in the elderly were taken into account. Results show that the annual growth rate of the market was predicted to be the minimum 4.54% through the maximum 8.32% from 2010 to 2025 and its market size was forecasted to be the minimum 7,073 ten million won through the maximum 10,976 ten million won. It is expected that the market of foods-for-elderly will grow rapidly with development of foods technology and fast increase of aged population. Especially, growth of health functional foods and foods for special dietary uses for elderly will be distinguished. However, it seems that related firms are on the hedge, watching current trend of the related industry. This may results in insufficient supply against the demand. Therefore, policy for foods-for-elderly should be introduced and systematically administered, including R&D support, standardization and authentication for foods-for-elderly, construction of related database system.
