Influence of Silicate Application on Rice Grain Quality (규산 시용이 미입의 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • To evaluate the characters related to rice grain quality as affected by silicate application, the ripened color, appearence and physicochemical properties of rice grain which were produced at the silt-loam paddy field of National Yeongnam Agricultural Exeperiment Station with a little poor drainage for trials on long-term effects of continuous application of same fertilizer were analyzed comparing with the NPK fertilizer an the NPK+compost in 1995. The whiteness value and color space value in ripened color of rice hull by silicate application were higher than those in the plots of NPK and NPK+compost, because of low percentage of rusty grain and sooty grain, The percentage of perfect grain in brown rice and in milled rice by the silicate application increased by 6.1~7.5% and by 1.8~3.5% respectively, as compared with the NPK application and white core and white belly of milled rice were decreased, The amylose content, protein content and starch-iodine blue value of milled rice by silicate application were lower than those in the plots of NPK and NPK+compost, while the peak point and breakdown viscosity of gelatinized rice flour on amylograph, and tastes value evaluated as a indicater of pannel test by nireco tester were higher. By silicate application these factors could be affected toward better in eating quality.

Freshness Prolongation of Crisphead Lettuce by Vacuum Cooling (진공예냉처리에 의한 양상치의 선도 연장)

  • The improvement of distribution system and freshness prolongation of crisphead lettuce were carried out through vacuum cooling and distribution under the low temperature. Lettuce that vacuum-cooled and transported by cold storage car was shown better freshness than that distributed by conventional method when they arrived at cunsuming area. And it took $10{\sim}17$ hours until their temperatures arrived at same temperatures when they were stored at $0{\sim}15^{\circ}C$ cold storage room. It was cooled to $1^{\circ}C$ after 27 minutes with vacuum cooling apparatus. The weight loss of lettuce that vacuum cooled and transported by cold storage car was below 5% after 30 days cold storage. And ascorbic acid and chlorophyll retentions were 86% and 52%, respectively. The shelf-life of crisphead lettuce, distributed by vacuum cooling and cold storage car transportation, was 5 days at $15^{\circ}C$ and over 40 days at $0^{\circ}C$, respectively. However, when it was distributed by conventional method, it was only 3 days at $15^{\circ}C$ and 20 days at $0^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Air Temperature Profile within a Partially Developed Paddy Rice Canopy (생육중기 벼 군락 내 기온의 연직구조)

  • Little information is available for the temporal variation in air temperature profile within rice canopies under development, while much works have been done for a fully developed canopy. Fine wire thermocouples of 0.003 mm diameter (chromel-constantan) were installed at 10 vertical heights by a 10 cm step in a paddy rice field to monitor the air temperatures over and within the developing rice canopy from one month after transplanting (June 29) to just before heading (August 24). According to a preliminary analysis of the data, we found neither the daytime temperature maximum nor the night time minimum at the active radiation surface (the canopy height with maximum leafages) during this period, which is a typical profile of a fully developed canopy. Air temperature within the canopy never exceeded that above the canopy at 1.5 m height during the daytime. Temporal march of the within-canopy profile seemed to be controlled mainly by the ambient temperature above the canopy and the water temperature beneath the canopy, and to some extent by the solar altitude, resulting in alternating isothermal and inversion structures.

Influence of Additives on Densification of Low-Temperature PZT Ceramics (저온소성용 PZT 세라믹스의 치밀화에 미치는 첨가제의 영향)

  • The lead zirconate titanate (PZT) powders were synthesized to make the piezoelectric ceramics in low temperature as low as $900^{\circ}C$. To investigate the influence of additives on sintering of PZT, two kinds of sintering aids were made as follows; $wB_2O_3-xBi_2O_3-zCuO$and LiBiO2-CuO. The sintering aid, $1{\sim}3$ wt.% $LiBiO_2-CuO$, was added into these PZT powders and the specimens were fired at temperature in the range of $800{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$. The highest density was shown in the specimen with 1 wt.% $LiBiO_2-CuO$ as additive at temperature of $900^{\circ}C$. The sintered specimen were analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was utilized to observe the microstructure, especially the densified morphology of specimens. In the XRD pattern, the well-crystallized PZT phase could be obtained in consequence of firing at $900^{\circ}C$. The scanning electron microscopy(SEM) was utilized to observe the structure of specimens after firing at $900^{\circ}C$. The densified perovskite structure of $PbZrTiO_3$ could be obtained by sintering at temperature as low as $900^{\circ}C$. The high sinterability of PZT ceramics was attributed to the low formation temperature of the liquid phase of additives.

  • Under the quickly changing health care environment in our society competitions among hospitals are getting harder and accordingly the hospital authorities do their best efforts to renovate their hospital management and let directors of food and nutrition services in hospital be seeking the drastic changes in their clinic-support operations. To attain this end it is essential to build an information system in food and nutrition services in hospital for practicing those operational changes efficiently. By building an information system we can totally manage a number of information about hospital food and nutrition services. This kind of information system can not only relieve dieticians and food-service workers from their repetitively routine jobs, but also connect with hospital management information systems organically. Resultantly productivity in this service area can be improved and the efficiency of hospital management will be increased. And accordingly the competitive advantage of the hospital can be greater than ever and that brings patients' and hospital employees' satisfaction. I would like to name this kind of information system for hospital food and nutrition services "TASTY", abbreviated from "Time-based Advanced Service Technology for Yong-Dong Severance Hospital, Nutrition Department" There are one basic information management area and five business management areas in TASTY. Five specific business areas are divided by menu, procurement, clinical nutrition service, production(including distribution and meal service), and financial management.inancial management.

진공 측정 기술 개발 동향

  • 이번 성원에드워드 학술상 수상자 선정은, 진공기술의 중요성에 공감하고 진공기술 발전을 위한 노력을 독려하자는 진공학회 회원들의 의견을 모아주신 결과로 생각한다. 본 발표에서는 그동안 한국표준과학연구원에서 수행해 온 진공 기술 연구 및 산학연 협력 네트워크 활동을 소개하고자 한다. 진공기술은 진공 환경을 발생시키고 측정 제어하며, 만들어진 진공 환경 안에서 원하는 작업을 할 수 있도록 하는 기술을 말한다. 우리나라의 주력산업인 반도체 및 디스플레이의 경우 그 생산 설비의 1/3이상이 진공 장비이며 진공 공정을 통해 만들어진다. 때문에 우리나라에서는 주력 산업분야나 그 전후방 산업의 경쟁력 강화 측면에서 진공기술 개발 중요성이 아주 크다. 한국표준과학연구원은 국가 대표 측정 기관으로 국가 측정 표준을 확립하고 측정관련 과학기술을 연구개발하며 그 성과를 보급하여 경제발전과 과학기술발전, 그리고 삶의 질 향상에 기여하는 것을 임무로 하고 있다. 우리나라에서 진공 측정 표준에 대한 연구가 본격적으로 시작된 것은 1984년으로 불용 장비로 불하받은 펌프와 챔버, 그리고 차관으로 도입된 Capacitance Diaphragm Gauge 몇 개만으로 시작되었다. 지금은 발전을 거듭하여 초음파 간섭 수은주 압력계를 비롯하여 정적 팽창시스템, 동적 팽창 시스템 등 진공도 범위별 국가 표준기와 리크 표준기를 자체 개발 하여 국가 측정 표준을 확립하고 있다. 우리나라의 진공 표준 및 측정 능력은 국제기구인BIPM에서 실시하는 국가 측정능력 비교시험을 통해 세계 최고 수준으로 인정 받은 바 있으며 교정검사 등을 통해 산학연에 보급되고 있다. 진공 측정 및 표준기술을 토대로, 1999년부터 과학기술부와 산업자원부의 지원을 받아 산학연이 필요로 하는 펌프 계측기 부품 소재 및 공정 특성을 평가하기 위한 장치와 절차를 개발하였다. 이를 이용해 보급되는 기술 data는 진공부품 및 장비 국산화, 국산제품 신뢰성 제고, 검증부품 사용을 통한 장비 품질 향상, 독자적 장비 기술 확보, 생산품 품질관리 등에 쓰이고 있다. 한국 표준연구원 진공센터의 교정 및 시험 능력은 ISO 9001 인증 획득과 국제 전문가의 review를 거쳐, 국제기구 측정능력표에 등재되어 있어 국제적 신뢰도도 확보하고 있다. 정기적인 진공기술 교류회를 개최하고 진공기술 홈페이지를 운영 하는 등 산학연 정보 교류 및 협력 네트워킹 활성화를 위해 노력한 바 있으며 이 분야의 연구 성과는 '국가 우수 연구성과 100선'에 선정된 바 있고, 산업자원부 지정 '산학연 연계 우수사례' 첫 번째로 선정되기도 하였다. 2008년부터는 진공기술 교류회 등을 통한 네트워킹 활동으로 도출된 기술 수요에 따라 대기업과 중소기업 학교 연구소들과 함께 진공공정 실시간 측정 진단 기술과 센서 개발 연구, 그리고 이들 개발품의 신뢰성 검증 및 평가 기술 개발을 위해 노력하고 있다.

A Study on the Aristotle's Eudaimonia (아리스토텔레스의 에우다이모니아 개념에 관한 연구)

  • In the twentieth century Anscombe's 1958 article "Modern Moral Philosophy" argued that duty-based conceptions of morality are conceptually incoherent for they are based on the idea of a "law without a lawgiver". Concepts such as "morally ought", "morally obligated", and "morally right" require a legislator as the source of moral authority. In the past God occupied the role, but systems that dispense with God are lacking the proper foundation for meaningful employment of those concepts. Aristotle's virtue ethics can do so without appealing to any such lawgiver, and ground morality in the well being of human moral agents. Therefore Anscombe recommends a return to the eudaimonistic ethical theories of the ancients as secular approaches. Eudaimonia is a central concept in Aristotelian ethics, along with the terms "aret?"(translated as virtue or excellence) and "phronesis"(translated as practical wisdom). In Aristotle's works, eudaimonia was used as the term for the highest human good, and so it is the aim of practical philosophy to consider what it really is and how it can be achieved. Eudaimonia is a Greek word commonly translated as well-being, happiness, welfare or "human flourishing". As Aristotle points out, saying that eudaimon life is a life which is objectively desirable, and means living well. Everyone wants to be eudaimon. And everyone agrees that being eudaimon is related to faring well and to an individual's well being. But the really difficult question is to specify just what sort of activities enable one to live well. Aristotle says that the eudaimon life is one of "virtuous activity in accordance with reason," this is a necessary condition of eudaimonia, the pleasure accompanied by virtuous activities is a sufficient condition. Hence we have a more accurate translation of eudaimonia with a review the practical meaning of eudaimonia, and the correlation between eudaimonia and arete, pleasure.

A Study on the Evaluation Index of Crown Height given Marine Environmental Factors and Ship Characteristics (해상 환경 및 선박 특성을 반영한 마루높이 평가지표에 관한 연구)

  • Korea has recently selected twenty-two ports for reinforcement breakwater installation of protection facilities, due to rise sea level caused by global warming and increase in the number of typhoon and tsunami. In addition, due to consistent enlargement of ship size, dredging for depth of water for large vessel's berthing and enlargement of berth is under construction. However, no definite construction plan for the reinforcement and lengthening of crown height, which has close relationship with the safe mooring of ships. In this study, domestic and foreign design criteria of crown height were analyzed, and the crown height evaluation index and evaluation method were developed by dividing it into environment and ship elements. In particular, in the case of ship evaluation index, each step was set up in 4 steps according to domestic and foreign regulations, weighted by each step, and the safety level of crown height was evaluated. As a result of the mooring safety simulation of the 100,000 ton cruise ship, the appropriate minimum crown height standard was derived to be 3 m above A.H.H.W. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data to propose the crown height standard reflecting ship characteristics.

Monitoring of Artificial Radionuclides in Edible Mushrooms in Korea (식용 버섯류에서의 인공 방사능 농도 조사)

  • To ensure food-safety of mushrooms from radioactive contamination, edible mushroom samples distributed in Gyeonggi province in Korea were collected according to species and country of origin. A total of 284 mushrooms, belonging to 10 species (Lentinula edodes, Pleurotus ostreatus, Pleurotus eryngii, Agaricus bisporus, Flammulina velutipes, Phellinus linteus, Inonotus Obliquus (Chaga), Auricularia auricula-judae, Ganoderma lucidum and Tricholoma matsutake) were subjected to radioactivity testing. The concentration of artificial radionuclides, 131I, 134Cs, and 137Cs, was analyzed using gamma-ray spectrometry. 131I and 134Cs were not detected more than MDA value from all samples. Among 204 domestic mushrooms, however, 137Cs were detected in 0.21~2.58 Bq/kg from six cases (3 Lentinula edodes, 1 Ganoderma lucidum and 2 Tricholoma matsutake), whereas 137Cs were detected in 0.21~53.79 Bq/kg from 38 cases (22 Inonotus Obliquus(Chaga), 14 Phellinus linteus, 1 Lentinula edodes and 1 Tricholoma matsutake) among 80 imported mushrooms. In addition, average concentration of 137Cs in 10 Chaga mushroom-processed products was more than twice as much as dried Chaga mushroom, and maximum concentration was 123.79 Bq/kg. Results suggest that radioactivity monitoring system for imported mushrooms and mushroom-processed products should be continuously intensified to secure food-safety in Korea.

Assessment of the Risks of Fire and Explosion through the Spontaneous Ignition Temperature and Activation Energy of Sesame Seed Oil Cakes (참깻묵의 자연발화온도와 활성화 에너지를 통한 화재 및 폭발의 위험성 평가)

  • Sesame seed oil cakes are classified as the animal or plant origin among the flammable liquids, and the fire occurs due to the spontaneous ignition through the accumulation of heat during the storage of residues after the extraction of sesame oil. In order to elucidate the cause of the spontaneous ignition of sesame seed oil cakes, the thickness (3 cm, 5 cm, 7 cm and 14 cm) of the sample container was varied, and the spontaneous ignition temperature was measured depending on the storage volume. Thus, the spontaneous ignition temperature was measured to be 180 ℃ at the thickness of 3 cm, 160 ℃ at 5 cm, 145 ℃ at 7 cm and 130 ℃ at 14 cm. As the thickness of the sample container increased, the critical ignition temperature decreased, and the induction time to spontaneous ignition and the time to reach the maximum temperature became longer. Furthermore, the apparent activation energy by the critical ignition temperature, which is the average temperature of ignition and non-ignition, was 97.10 [kJ/mol]. With these data, ignition characteristics of sesame seed oil cakes were determined.
