Objectives & Methods : The objective of this study was to evaluate the single oral dose toxicity of Chongmyung-tang (CMT) in ICR mice. Korean traditional herbal prescription CMT has traditionally been used as a neuroprotective for treatment of learning disability and memory improvement. CMT, lyophilized aqueous extracts (yield=9.7%) were administered to female and male mice with oral dose of 2,000, 1,000 and 500 mg/kg (body weight) according to the recommendation of Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) Guidelines. Animals were monitored for mortality, changes in body weight, clinical signs and gross observation during 14 days after administration upon necropsy; organ weight and histopathology of 14 principle organs were examined. Results : We could not find any CMT extracts treatment related mortalities, clinical signs, changes in body and organ weight, or gross and histopathological observations against 14 principle organs up to 2,000 mg/kg in both female and male mice, except for some accidental sporadic findings which did not show any obvious dose-relations and most of which also demonstrated in both the female and male vehicle control mice in this experiments. Conclusions : Based on the results of this experiment, the 50% lethal dose ($LD_{50}$) and approximate lethal dose (ALD) of CMT extracts after single oral treatment in female and male mice can be considered to be over 2,000 mg/kg, and is likely to be safe in humans.
Objective : This research aims to investigates the effects of CMT and HCMT on Dementia. and we also want to know the different effect of CMT, HCMT by drug types. Methods : The research is progressed by two types of experiment. one experiment is BV2 microglial cell line treated by LPS in vitro and another experiment is memory deficit mice induced by scopolamine in vivo. Results : The CMT and HCMT is effective in BV2 microglial cell line treated by LPS in vitro and in the serum of the memory deficit mice induced by scopolamine in vivo. But, there is no significant difference between CMT and HCMT extract&nano powder in experimental conclusion. Conclusions : These results suggest that the two drug types of CMT and HCMT may be effective for the prevention and treatment of Dementia. Investigation into the further study two drug types of the CMT and HCMT for Dementia is suggested for future research.

This experiment was designed to investigate the effect of the ODTCMT and DDTCMT extract on protecting microglia and inhibiting acetylcholinesterase and oxidants. The effects of the ODTCMT and DDTCMT extract on cell death of BV2 microglial cell line treated by $IFN-{\gamma}$ ; expression of NO, ROS in BV2 microglial cell line treated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) ; AChE activity in PC-12 cell treated by NGF were investigated, respectively. The ODTCMT and DDTCMT extract significantly increased cell viability in BV2 microglial cell line treated with $IFN-\nu$. The ODTCMT and DDTCMT extract suppressed the NO and RDS production in BV2 microglial cell line treated by LPS. The ODTCMT and DDTCMT extract groups also showed inhibition of AChE activity in PC-12 cell line. According to the above result, it is suggested that the ODTCMT and DDTCMT extract might be usefully applied for prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Objectives : This study was designed to signpost the study of brain, intelligence and memory, while interpreting the concept of 'Chongmyeong(聰明)' neotrically and linking it to the clinic of Korean medicine. Methods : In this paper, the meaning of the word 'Chongmyeong(聰明)' is divided into two parts, intelligence and memory. We also explored the relationship between brain science and 'Chongmyeong(聰明)' based on complex system theory, cognitive science and embodied cognition. Results : Through the process of refining the concept of 'Chongmyeong(聰明)' neoterically, we proposed the new method to understand the concept of 'Chongmyeong(聰明)'. Conclusions : The concept of 'Chongmyeong(聰明)' should be interpreted not as a reductionistic viewpoint of brain science but as a viewpoint of brain science based on visual and auditory system and complex system. Human cognition is physically embodied in the environment, from the viewpoint of embodied cognition that it is constituted and formed in an interactive context with society and culture connected with the environment.

In order to understand the whole picture of virtue epistemology with knowledge-action theory, I will first examine contours between concepts like capacity, character and intellectual virtues in relation to the notion of virtue. At first, my $na{\ddot{i}}ve$ question is why smart people do such bad things without any shame. This question would be either ethical or epistemological because epistemology is viewed as a normative discipline and intellectual agents and communities should be considered as the primary focus of epistemic evaluation. This is the core idea of virtue epistemology. The stance virtue epistemology views virtues as a solution to the justification of knowledge is similar to the knowledge-action theory in the East Asian intellectual tradition. But, their core issues are different from each other. Thus, I will explain how to differ from one another and analyze such concepts as capacity, character, and intellectual virtues in the Analects. I will insist that capacity and character without normative disciplines cannot be intellectual virtues leading to right actions.
