  • In this paper, the theoretical research and simulation using the Finite Element Method (FEM) to design and form a micro-pattern for an ultrasonic horn is described. The present method is based on an initial design estimate obtained by FEM analysis. The natural and resonant frequencies required for the ultrasonic tool horn used for forming the fine pattern were predicted by finite element analysis. FEM analysis using ANSYS S/W was used to predict the resonant frequency for the optimum technical design of the ultrasonic horn vibration mode shape. When electrical power is supplied to the ultrasonic transducer, it is converted into mechanical movement energy, leading to vibration. The RFID TAG becomes the pattern formed on the insulating sheet by using the longitudinal vibration energy of the ultrasonic tool horn. The FEM analysis result is then incorporated into the optimal design and manufacturing of the ultrasonic tool horn.

  • In this paper, the ultrasonic horn having the natural frequency with 60 [kHz] for the dissimilar material bonding of the glass and solder tried to be designed. The ultrasonic horn was designed through the relational formula including the aspect ratio of the input terminal and output terminal, length of the ultrasonic horn. The modal analysis was performed for the propriety analysis of the designed horn. The parameters and response was set through the basic experiment. The dissimilar material bonding strength analysis using the ultrasonic transducer was done. The optimal process parameters having maximum bonding strength was derived.

  • The ultrasonic metal welding is highly used in extensive field due to the possibility for welding of various materials such as new materials, plated structures and etc, and its welding conditions has been diversify. In this paper, one-wavelength tool horn of step type designed for ultrasonic metal welding of dissimilar metal sheets has performed by FEM analysis. FEM analysis is applied to predict the natural frequency of ultrasonic tool horn and use of in the optimal design of ultrasonic horn shape. And the optimal design of one-wavelength step horn is confirmed experimentally using natural frequency analysis system.

  • The characteristics of the responses obtained in thermosonic tests are investigated in this study to improve the performance of a thermosonic test system. Thermosonic tests are conducted with an acoustic horn with high power capability to investigate the characteristics of the vibration produced in turbine blades with complex geometry. The influences of the excitation signal that is input to the horn and the coupling methods between a clamp and the acoustic horn on the characteristics of the vibration excited in a component are presented. As a result, an excitation method with a fast narrow band chirp test (sweep test) and a stud coupling is proposed as an excitation method for thermosonic testing. This method can be applied to different types of turbine blades and also to other components.

  • In this study, the FEM technique was applied to design the shape of the horn that transmits ultrasonic vibration energy to the base material, and the shape of the welding horn with a one-wavelength bar shape used in the 20kHz region was designed. The shape design of the horn was performed by applying the rod longitudinal vibration theory to Ansys APDL (Ansys Parametric Design Language). Twenty-five models were designed using the ratio of the area of the input and output surfaces of the vibration and the length of the horn to derive the appropriate horn shape. The horn was designed with a total length of 130mm, a step length of 65mm, and an output area of 28.79mm. The horn was fabricated using the optimized dimensions, and the vibration and displacement characteristics of the horn were evaluated using the measurement system. Finally, a uniform longitudinal step horn was designed, and more than 97.4% of the uniformity of the tip was secured. The amplitude ratio of the optimized horn was improved by 51%.

  • In this study, we developed a micropattern technology in the shape of RFID TAG antenna using ultrasonic micropattern manufacturing system developed to enable micropattern technology. The ultrasonic tool horn in longitudinal vibration mode was installed in the micropattern manufacturing system to develop the ultrasonic press technology for the micropattern antenna shape of the RFID TAG antenna shape on the insulating sheet surface. The ultrasonic shaping technology was manufactured by applying the resonance design technique to a 60kHz tool horn, and by using the micropattern manufacturing system, the coil wire having a thickness of 25㎛ can be ultrasonically press-molded on an insulating sheet of 200㎛ or less. In ultrasonic press technology, the antenna shape having a minimum line width of 150㎛ could be molded without disconnection, peeling, or twisting of the coil wire.

  • This study investigates the vibration characteristics of a wire-bonding piezoelectric transducer and ultrasonic horn for high-speed and precise welding. A ring-type piezoelectric stack actuator is excited at 136 kHz to vibrate a conical-type horn and capillary system. The nodal lines and amplification ratio of the ultrasonic horn are obtained using a theoretical analysis and FEM simulation. The vibration modes and frequencies close to the driving frequency are identified to evaluate the bonding performance of the current wire-bonder system. The FEM and experimental results show that the current wire-bonder system uses the bending mode of 136 kHz as the principal motion for bonding and that the transverse vibration of the capillary causes the bonding failure. Because the major longitudinal mode exists at 119 kHz, it is recommended that the design of the current wire-bonding system be modified to use the major longitudinal mode at the excitation frequency and to minimize the transverse vibration of capillary in order to improve the bonding performance.
