  • 발전설비에 대한 비파괴 검사 기술은 발전소 운전 신뢰성 및 안전성 유지확보 그리고 건전성을 보장하기 위한 필수적인 기술이다. 이 설비 중 터빈, 보일러 등 주요 발전설비에 대한 초음파 검사는 매우 신중하고 정확하게 검사할 필요성이 있으나, 일반적 초음파 검사방법으로는 불가능한 부분이 많고 일부분에 대해서는 이를 외국 제작사 기술용역에 의존하고 있는 실정이다. 특히 발전기 로타 웨지와 같이 재질상 감쇄가 심한 재료에 대해서는 검사 자체가 어렵고, 지금의 초음파 검사 방법으로는 결함의 크기나 형태를 파악하기도 어려워 이에 대한 개선책이 시급한 실정이다. 최근에 개발이 시작된 Phased Array UT분야는 발전설비중 접근자체가 어렵고, 형상이 복잡하여 결함의 탐지 및 평가가 힘든 부분에 적용하면 검사신뢰도 및 신속성을 향상시킬 수 있으며 접근성에 대한 제한 또한 감소시킬 수 있다. 따라서 본 논문은 발전기 부품에 발생하는 일반적인 결함에 대하여 Phased array UT 기술을 도입하여 신호의 특성을 분석하는 결과평가에 도음이 되고자 하였다.

Feasibility Study of Flexible Phased Array Ultrasonic Technology Using Irregular Surface Specimen (불규칙 표면 시편을 이용한 Flexible 위상배열초음파기술 적용 연구)

  • Nuclear power plant contain many dissimilar metal welds that connect carbon steel components with stainless steel pipes using alloy600 welding materials. Primary water stress corrosion cracks at dissimilar metal welds have been continuously reported around the world. In periodic integrity evaluations, dissimilar metal welds are examined using a generic ultrasonic testing procedure, KPD-UT-10. In this procedure, the gap between the probe and examination surface is limited to 1/32 inch (0.8mm). It is not easy to test some dissimilar metal welds in Korean plants applying ordinary technology because of their tapered shapes and irregular surface conditions. This paper introduces a method for applying a flexible phased array technology to improve the reliability of ultrasonic testing results for various shapes and surface conditions. The artificial flaws in specimens with irregular surfaces were completely detected using the flexible phased array ultrasonic technology. Therefore, it can be said that the technology is applicable to field examination.

  • To record and evaluate the flaws which were found during pre-service/in-service inspection performance of nuclear power plants in Korea, the center line beam method described in ASME code and 6 dB drop method stated in CSA code were used. The measured through wall dimensions and lengths by these methods were compared and analyzed in this report. With the measured data analysis, the ekact understanding and use of these methods improves the reliability of flaw sizing and assures the integrity of nuclear power plant components.

  • 최근 자동차 제조업과 조선산업 등에서는 용접구조물의 정밀 용접분야에 레이저-아크 하이브리드(Laser-Arc Hybrid) 용접기술 개발이 활발히 진행되고 있다. 이는 고속용접, 고밀도, 저열입량 등의 특징을 갖는 레이저 빔 용접과 저가, 넓은 GaP 연결능력 등의 특징을 갖는 기존의 아크 용접법의 장점을 결합하여, 양산시간을 단축하고, 생산비를 절감하며, 품질을 향상시키는데 목적이 있다. 이와 더불어 레이저-아크 하이브리드 용접부에 대한 검사 평가 기술에 대한 수요가 증가하고 있으며, 특히 박판(Thin Plate) 용접부의 비파피 검사 기술이 요구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 자동차용 차체 모듈 생산 공정에서의 레이저-아크 하이브리드 용접부에 대한 초음파 비파괴 검사를 수행하였다.

  • Failure of small bore piping welds is a recurring problem at nuclear power plants. And the socket weld cracking in small bore piping has caused unplanned plant shutdowns for repair and high economic impact on the plants. Consequently, early crack detection, including the detection of manufacturing defects, is of the utmost importance. Until now, the surface inspection methods has been applied according to ASME Section XI requirements. But the ultrasonic inspection as a volumetric method is also applying to enforce the inspection requirement. However, the conventional manual ultrasonic inspection techniques are used to detect service induced fatigue cracks. And there was uncertainty on manual ultrasonic inspection because of limited access to the welds and difficulties with contact between the ultrasonic probe and the OD(outer diameter) surface of small bore piping. In this study, phased array ultrasonic inspection technique is applied to increase inspection speed and reliability. To achieve this object, the 3.5 MHz phased array ultrasonic transducer are designed and fabricated. The manually encoded scanner was also developed to enhance contact conditions and maintain constant signal quality. Additionally inspection system is configured and inspection procedure is developed.

Detection of Micro-Crack Using a Nonlinear Ultrasonic Resonance Parameters (비선형 초음파공명 특성을 이용한 미세균열 탐지)

  • In order to overcome the detection limit by the current nondestructive evaluation technology, a nonlinear resonant ultrasound spectroscopy(NRUS) technique was applied for detection of micro-scale cracks in a material. A down-shift of the resonance frequency and a variation of normalized amplitude of the resonance pattern were suggested as the nonlinear parameter for detection of micro-scale cracks in a materials. A natural-like crack were produced in a standard compact tension(CT) specimen by a low cycle fatigue test and the resonance patterns were acquired in each fatigue step. As the exciting voltage increases, a down-shift of resonance frequency were increases as well as the normalized amplitude decrease. This nonlinear effects were significant and even greater in the cracked specimen, but not observed in a intact specimen.

  • 본 논문에서는 강자성체 물질을 사용하는 구조물들에 발생되는 결함을 와전류탐상을 이용하여 검출하기 위한 비파괴검사방법에 대하여 제시하였다. 와전류탐상은 전자기비파괴검사방법으로 초음파탐상법과 같은 방법에 비교하여 비접촉식이며 고속으로 검사가 가능하다는 장점이 있다. 본 연구에서 사용되는 매질인 강자성체의 경우 비자성체에 비하여 표피효과에 의한 침투깊이가 얇기 때문에 강자성체를 위한 주파수를 별도로 선정하여야 한다. 또한 고속으로 움직이는 경우 속도기전력에 의한 효과를 고려하여야 한다. 본 연구에서는 와전류센서를 제작하여 실제 강자성체에 적용하는 경우 어떠한 특성을 나타내는가에 대하여 고찰하였다.

Inspection of Heat Exchanger Tubing Defects with Ultrasonic Guided Waves (유도초음파를 이용한 열 교환기 튜브 결함 탐상)

  • This study shows the defect detection and sizing capability of ultrasonic guided waves in the nondestructive inspection of heat exchanger and steam generator tubing. Phase and group velocity dispersion curves for the longitudinal and flexural modes of a sample Inconel tube were presented for the theoretical analysis. EDM(Electric Discharge Machining) wears in tubing under a tube support plate and circumferential laser notches in tubing were detected by an axisymmetric and a non-axisymmetric transducer set up, respectively. EDM wears were detected with L(0, 2), L(0, 3) and L(0, 4) modes and among them L(0, 4) mode was found to be the most sensitive. It was also found that the flexural modes around L(0, 1) mode could be used for the detection and sizing of laser notches in the tubing.

Realtime Identification of the Propagation Direction of Received Echoes in Long-Range Ultrasonic Testing (원거리 초음파검사에서 수신에코 진행방향의 실시간 식별)

  • In long-range ultrasonic testing, a phased array probe composed of multiple identical transducers with an uniform interval of one quarter wavelength is usually used for the transmission or reception directivity control. This paper shows that the propagation directions of individual echoes can be identified in real time by displaying the inputs of a process for summing the constitution reception signals after compensating the phase difference due to the transducer interval, together with the output of the process. A constructive interference of the constitution echoes indicates a forward direction echo propagating along an intended direction while a destructive interference implies a reverse direction echo propagating along the direction opposite to the intended one.

  • 알루미늄 자동차 엔진은 알루미늄 엔진 블록에 라이너가 삽입되어 접합된다. 접합시 라이너와 엔지 블록의 간격이 5$mu extrm{m}$이내이어야 하며 접합률이 30% 이상이면 접합상태가 양호하다고 한다. 라이너의 접합상태를 검사할 수 있는 비파괴 검사장비는 국내에서 개발되어 상용화된 것이 거의 없는 상황이다. 6개의 라이너의 접합상태를 자동으로 검사하는 컴퓨터 내장형 초음파 검사 시스템을 개발하였다.
