This study was conducted to examine the differences between dynamic and static elastic constants by use of some laboratory tests of cement mortar specimens which have different water/cement mixing ratios. Specific gravity measurement, ultrasonic velocity estimating and uniaxial compression test were adopted to acquire the dynamic and static elastic constants. Digital data acquisition and processing enhanced the accuracy of estimating the velocities of specimens drastically, Also, the method using the gradient of propagation delay time in according to increment of specimen length more enhanced the accuracy than the method using the only one specimen length over total propagation time. The correlation between density and the P and S wave velocity of specimens shows reliable positive relation and the correlation between density and the strength of uniaxial compression has the similar relationship. The dynamic Young's modulus $(E_D)$ is alway greater than the static Young's modulus $(E_S)$ and there is increasing tendency of the ratio $(E_D/E_S)$ according to the increase of density or strength of the specimens. On the other hand, there is no typical relationship between dynamic Poisson's ratio $({\nu}_D)$ and static Poisson's ratio $({\nu}_S)$ and just the ratio of ${\nu}_D/{\nu}_S$ ranges front 69 to 122 %.

In this study, a newly developed ultrasonic fatigue test was performed for durability assessment of polyoxymethylene engineering plastic, which has a high crystallization rate and degree of crystallization. Fatigue strength of POM (polyoxymethylene) was performed on a piezoelectric UFT developed by Mbrosia Co., Ltd(1), operating at a high frequency of 20 kHz. The test results showed a fatigue limit of 5.0~6.0 MPa under fatigue testing at R = -1, 20kHz; and, electron microscopy revealed the size effect by risk volume and fractured dimple structure after the coalescence of micro-voids through the crazing effect, which occurs during the failure of a polymer.

The purpose of this study is to provide the geo-technical information by assessment of the in-situ rock strength using the reflected wave energy and travel time data acquired by the borehole acoustic scanner. In order to compare and analyze the relationship between the uniaxial compressive strength and the reflected wave energy, the laboratory test and the borehole acoustic scanning were conducted for the set of specimens, such as mortar, concrete, and rock samples which have different rock type. Finally, we verified the applicability of the reflected wave energy acquired by the borehole acoustic scanner to quantitatively estimate the in-situ rock strength.

Material degradation due to corrosion fatigue was evaluated nondestructively using backward radiated Rayleigh surface wave. h corrosion fatigue test was carried out for the specimens made of thermo-mechanically controlled process steel in 3.5wt.% NaCl solution at $25^{\circ}C$. The backward radiation profile, which is the amplitude variation of backward radiated ultrasound according to the incident angle, of the specimens were measured in water at room temperature after the corrosion fatigue test. The velocity of Rayleigh surface wave, determined from the incident angle at which the profile of the backward radiated ultrasound became maximum, decreased for the specimen that had the large number of cycles to failure in the corrosion fatigue test. This fact implies that the corrosion degradation occurred at specimen surface in this specific test is dominantly dependant on the me exposed to corrosion environment. The result observed in the present work demonstrates the high potential of backward radiated Rayleigh surface wave as a tool for nondestructive evaluation of corrosion degradation of aged materials.

The presence of hydrogen in industrial plants is a source of damage. Hydrogen attack is one such form of degradation and often causing large tube ruptures that necessitate an immediate shutdown. Hydrogen attack may reduce the fracture toughness as well as the strength of steels. This reduction is caused partially by the presence of cavities and microcracks at the grain boundaries. In the past several techniques have been used with limited results. This paper describes the application of an ultrasonic velocity and attenuation in hydrogen damage. Ultrasonic tests showed a decrease in wave velocity and an increase in attenuation. Such results demonstrate the potential for ultrasonic nondestructive testing to quantify damage. Based on this study, reliable recommendation is suggested to detect hydrogen attack.
A new ultrasonic test method is proposed to obtain elastic constants of unidirectional composite materials nondestructively. In the proposed test method, only longitudinal transducers are used to measure wave velocities by through-transmission method. An aluminum wedge and a flat aluminum rectangular block are placed on each side of the test specimen. Oblique incident longitudinal wave is transmitted from a wedge to the specimen and the mode conversions are occurred sequentially at two interfaces between the specimen and aluminium. Measuring wave velocities converted to longitudinal waves in the rectangular block give all information to determine elastic constants of the composites. In order to determine shear stiffness coefficients, transverse wave velocity is measured indirectly from received longitudinal wave. Effects of anisotropy on waves are also considered in this study.
The purpose of this research is to obtain a practical expression for the estimation of compressive strength of concrete using non-destructive testing method such as rebound Schmidt hammer and ultrasonic pulse

The ultrasonic characteristics of 2.25Cr-1Mo steel were investigated in relation to the isothermal heat treatment temperature and time. Charpy impact tests and hardness tests were conducted on individual specimens with three different heat treatment conditions. A pulse-echo method with longitudinal waves was used to measure the attenuation and velocity of ultrasonic waves. The FATT (fracture appearance transition temperature) increased with an increase in the isothermal heat treatment time, which implies that the toughness decreased. As the isothermal heat treatment time and temperature increased, the longitudinal wave velocity and ultrasonic attenuation coefficient were raised.

Ultrasonic methods are widely used to degradation assessment. Remaining-life cycle of metal can be estimated by ultrasonic parameters because ultrasonic velocity and attenuation are affected by change of material properties with accumulated fatigue in the metal. Therefore, in this study, we will estimate overall change of material properties by 2D C-scan image. Fatigued aluminum alloy 6061-T6 samples from 0 to 85% were prepared for evaluating fatigue life cycle. Also, degraded image of materials using attenuation is proposed to estimate degree of material degradation for determining degraded area of fatigued samples. Finally, we will predicts process pf degradation with measured attenuation of fatigued aluminum alloy 6061-T6 samples.

One of the widely used NDT(Non-destructive techniques) is the ultrasonic pulse velocity (USPV) method, which determines the travel time of the ultrasonic pulse through the tested materials and most studies were focused on the results expressed in time domain. However, the signal of ultrasonic pulse in time domain can be transformed into frequency domain, through Fast fourier transform(FFT) to give more useful informations. This paper shows a comparison of changes in the pulse velocity and frequency domain signals of concrete for various load histories using lightweight fine aggregates. The strength prediction equation for normal concrete using USPV cannot be used to estimate lightweight fine aggregate concrete strength. The signals in frequency domain of ultrasonic pulse of lightweight fine aggregate concrete does not show any significant difference comparing with those of normal concrete. The increases in stress levels of concrete change the pulse velocities and maximum frequencies, however the apparent relationship between themselves can not be found in this experiment.
