Preliminary Experiment for Analysis of Guided Wave Behaviors in Buried Steel Pipes (지반에 매립된 배관에서의 유도초음파 거동 해석을 위한 기초 실험)

  • 본 연구에서는 매립 구간의 길이가 유도초음파 신호 강도에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 유도초음파 모드 해석을 통해 가진 모드와 주파수를 결정하였으며, 유도초음파의 가진 및 수진은 경사각 입사 방식의 Pitch-Catch 법을 이용하였다. 또한, 비 매립된 배관에서 유도초음파 신호를 획득하여, 이를 기준으로 매립된 배관에서 획득한 유도초음파 신호를 분석하였다. 실험 결과 매립 구간의 길이가 유도초음파의 신호 강도에 매우 큰 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라, 매립 구간의 길이와 신호 강도의 변화가 선형 비례적인 관계를 보이지 않는다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

Evaluation of the Thermal Degradation in Co-based Superalloy using High frequency Transducer of Scanning Acoustic Microscope (초음파현미경의 고주파 초음파 탐촉자를 이용한 코발트기 초내열합금강의 열화평가)

  • The feasibility of Y(z) curve method of scanning acoustic microscope using high frequency transducer was experimentally studied for assessment of the thermal degradation in Co-based superalloy. Thermal degradation was performed to simulate the microstructural changes in Co-based superalloy arising from long term exposure at high temperature. Longitudinal wave velocity measured by pulse echo method using 10MHz transducer and leaky surface acoustic wave (LSAW) velocity measured by V(z) curve method using 200MHE transducer were measured to investigate the effect on thermal degradation. Ultrasonic velocity decreased as the aging time increased in both ultrasonic waves. Moreover, the low frequency longitudinal wave velocity decreased a little. Otherwise, the high frequency LSAW velocity drastically decreased up to a maximum of 4.7% at the aging time of 4,000hours. A good correlation was found between LSAW and Vickers hardness. Consequently, V(z) curve method of SAM using high frequency transducer could be a potential tool for assessing thermal degradation.

  • The cortical bone thickness of the tibia is related to fracture risk and overall bone status. The present study aims to investigate the feasibility of two different ultrasonic methods for measuring the cortical bone thickness in bovine tibia in vitro. In the reflection technique, the tibial cortical thickness was determined from ultrasonic reflections from the periosteum and the endosteum producing specific peaks in the signal envelope. In the axial transmission technique, the tibial cortical thickness was determined from ultrasonic guided wave velocities measured along the axial direction of the tibia. The cortical bone thickness determined by using the reflection technique correlated significantly with that measured by using a caliper, with a Pearson's correlation coefficient of r = 0.97 (p < 0.0001). In contrast, the correlation coefficients for the axial transmission technique were r = 0.92 (p < 0.0001) for the first arriving signal method and r = 0.89 (p < 0.0001) for the slow guided wave method. Clinical feasibility should be demonstrated with an in vivo application to address the question whether the ultrasonic methods presented here could be useful as a screening tool for osteoporosis and potentially could be applied to other skeletal sites such as the femur and the radius.

  • 초음파 비가진 시인 상용분무와 초음파가진 시인 개질분무, 간접진동분무, 간접진동 및 개질의 겸용분무의 네가지 경우 모두에서 분무액적의 평균직경 및 SMD가 전 영역에 걸쳐서 노즐 글에서 분무방향으로 멀어질수록 조금씩 증가했으며, 또한 초음파 비 가진시인 상용분무 경우가 초음파 가진 세경우에 비해 크게 나타났다. 초음파 가진 세가지 경우에서는 간접진동 및 개질법 겸용의 경우에서 분무액적의 미세화가 가장 우세하게 나타났다. 이는 초음파가 분무 축방향 전영역에 걸쳐서 분무액적의 미세화에 친화적임을 입증한다. 나. 분무 방향 축에서 반경 방향으로 갈수록 분무 액적의 평균 직경과 SMD는 감소하고 있으며, 반경방향 전 영역에 걸쳐서 상용 분무시의 액적이 가장 크게, 초음파겸용 경우에서 가장 작게 나타나고 있다. 이는 초음파가 분무 내부 전 영역에 걸쳐 액적의 미세화에 친화적임을 증명한다. 다. 분무액적의 크기에 따른 분무 분포도 비교에서 네가지 경우 모두에서 축 방향 거리가 멀수록 분무액적의 크기가 다소 증가함을 보였고, 축에서 반경 방향으로는 분무액적의 크기가 다소 감소함을 보이고 있다. 상용 분무와 초음파 분무의 비교에서 초음파 겸용 가진시는 상용 분무 때 보다 분무 영역 전반에 걸쳐서 미세화가 뚜렷이 우세함을 보였다.

  • The destructive method is reliable and widely used lot the estimation of material degradation but, it have time-consuming and a great difficulty in preparing specimens from in-service industrial facilities. Therefore, the estimation of degraded structural materials used at high temperature by nondestructive evaluation such as electric resistance method, replica method, Barkhausen noise method, electro-chemical method and ultrasonic method are strongly desired. Ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation technique has been reported good to attain efficiency of measurement, high sensitivity of measurement, and rapidity and reliability of result interpretation. In this study, it was verified experimentally the feasibility of the evaluation of degraded 2.25Cr-1Mo steel specimens which were prepared by the isothermal aging heat treatment at $630^{\circ}C$ by high frequency longitudinal wave method investigating the change of attenuation coefficient by FFT analysis and wavelet transform. Because of carbide precipitation increase and spheroidization near grain boundary of microstructure to aging degradation, attenuation coefficient had a tendency to increase as degradation proceeded. It was identified possibly to evaluate degradation using the characteristics of high-frequency ultrasonics. Frequency dependence of ultrasonic attenuation coefficient to aging degradation appeared large, which made sure that attenuation coefficient is an important parameter for evaluation of aging degradation.

Defect ratio evaluation of the rock bolt grouting using the reflection method of guided ultrasonic waves (유도초음파의 반사법을 이용한 록볼트 그라우팅의 결함비율 평가)

  • Rock bolts have been installed into rockmass as a main support system. In order to evaluate the rock bolt integrity using non-destructive technique, the transmission method of the guided ultrasonic wave has been successfully performed. For the transmission method, however, the source for the generation o# guided ultrasonic waves should be installed at the end of the steel bar during construction of the rock bolt in the field. The purpose of this study is to suggest a reflection method that the source and the receiver are installed on the head of the steel bar. The reflection method is compared with the transmission method using non-embedded rock bolts and rock bolts embedded in concrete block. In this experiment, the piezo disc element is used as the source and the AE sensor is used as the receiver. The wavelet transform is applied to determine the energy velocity. The experimental studies show that the reflection method produces almost identical value of the transmission method, and the energy velocity increases with the defect ratio. This study suggests that the reflection method of the guided ultrasonic wave may be a suitable method fur the rock bolt integrity evaluation in the field.

  • Schmidt hammer and ultra-sonic method are commonly used for crushed sand concrete compressive strength test in a construction field. At present, various of equations for prediction of strength are present, which have been used in a construction field. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the correlation between prediction strength by presentation equations and destructive strength to test specimen, and find out which is a suitable equation for the construction site. In this study, a strength test was carried out destructive test by means of core sampling and traditional test. The experimental parameter were concrete age, curing condition, and strength level.

Suggestion for Non-Destructive Testing Equation to Estimate Compressive Strength of Early Strength Concrete (조기강도 콘크리트의 압축강도 추정을 위한 비파괴검사 실험식의 제안)

  • In construction field, it used various technique for concrete formwork. Part of them, non-destructive test has been conducted to estimate a compressive strength of concrete easily such as rebound method and ultrasonic pulse velocity method etc. Former research has recommend proposed equation based on experimental data to investigate strength of concrete but it was sometimes deferent actual value of that from in field because of the few of data in case of early strength concrete. In this study, an experiment was conducted to analyze strength properties for early strength concrete using cylinder mold and $1,000mm{\times}1,000mm{\times}200mm$ rectangular specimen. And compressive strength of concrete was tested by non-destructive test, and calculated by the equation proposed former research. As a result, the non-destructive test results showed approximately 70 percent of the failure test value for all conditions, and worse reliability was obtained for high strength concrete samples when the ultrasonic pulse velocity method was used. Based on the scope of this study, the experimental equation for estimating compressive strength of early strength concrete from 24MPa to 60MPa was proposed.

  • Guided ultrasonic waves propagating over long distances within a short period provide a fast long-range inspection method. However, structures with arbitrary cross-sections, such as rails, have complicated dispersion characteristics that make analysis of the ultrasonic signal difficult. Therefore, an understanding of the characteristics of the propagating waves in rails is important for the creation of a reliable and practical inspection system using guided waves. In particular, it is necessary to investigate the dispersion characteristics of the guided waves. This paper introduces a method for the calculation of the dispersion curves of KS60 rails by adopting a SAFE method, and discusses the possibility of using guided waves as a technique for rail inspection.
