  • Preliminary scheduling at the initial stage of planning phase is usually performed with limited information and details. Therefore, the reliability and accuracy of preliminary scheduling is affected by personal experiences and skills of the schedule planners, and it requires enormous managerial effort (or workload). Reusing of historical data of the similar projects is important for efficient preliminary scheduling. However, understanding the structure of historical data and applying them to a new project requires a great deal of experience and knowledge. In this context, this paper propose a framework and methodology for automated preliminary schedule generation based on historical database. The proposed methodology and framework enables to automatically generate CPM schedules for airport projects in the early planning stage in order to enhance the reliability and to reduce the workload by using structured knowledge and experience.

  • This study examines the performance of the successful small and medium size firms in their early stage. No sign of widespread chasm or the death valley among the sample firm is identified. More than half the sample firms had made reasonable forecast on the uncertainty of their future business before they were incorporated. Overall results of empirical studies carried out in this article allow us to assert that the difficulties experienced in the early stage are mostly manageable within the organization. This implies that the Government support for start-ups in early stage should be discouraged. Empirical investigation across different periods reveals, however, that the Government may have significant roles to play when it comes down to controlling the macroeconomic shocks.

  • This study sought to identify developmental trajectories of bullying victimization from late elementary school through early high school, and to examine internalizing and externalizing problem outcomes associated with the trajectory group membership. Data from Seoul Panel Study of Children were collected annually over a 7-year period from 5th grade of elementary school through 2nd grade of high school (2005~2011). Latent class growth analysis yield three trajectory classes corresponding to stable low (81.2%), stable high (3.5%), and declining bullying victimization (15.6%). Findings from analysis of covariance indicated that students in both stable high and declining trajectory groups reported significantly higher means in internalizing behavior (withdrawal, depression/anxiety, and suicide ideation), compared to those in the stable low group. For externalizing behavior such as aggression and juvenile status offense, students in the stable high group showed higher means, compared to those in the stable low and declining trajectory groups. Developmental pattern of bullying victimization over multiple development stages and associated internalizing and externalizing outcomes are discussed as are the implications for the bullying prevention.

  • PURPOSE: This study compared the elderly falls and the intrinsic fall risk factors according to gender. METHODS: This descriptive cross-sectional study was a secondary analysis of the data collected for medical checkups for the Transitional Periods of Life supported from the National Health Insurance. The subjects examined were 255,505 people aged 66 years in Korea between January and December, 2008. RESULTS: The elderly people aged 66 when in the transitional periods of life experienced 10.6% of their first falls. The first falls of women (12.4%) was greater than that of men (8.5%) in the elderly. The risk factors for falls included dysuria with an odds ratio of 6.2 to 6.6, depression with an odds ratio of 1.5 to 1.8, gait disturbance with an odds ratio of 1.3 to 1.5, and blindness with an odds ratio of 1.3 to 1.4 in both elderly women and men. CONCLUSIONS: Effective fall prevention should focus on dysuria because it is a more important predictor of falls, even though many intrinsic fall risk factors can affect falls in elderly people.

  • The helicopter initial design model was established by using the latest weight estimation equations based on the Tishchenko's methodology through the study existing initial design tools. The sequential decomposition method is used to reduce analysis time in the sizing. Empirical parameters of the weight estimation equation were also extracted from numerical and regression analysis for a helicopter database. Design input and output values were compared with the RISPECT design tool. Finally, comparison of the re-design resulting for several existing helicopters was presented and showed the good agreement within less than 5% in the weight estimation and main rotor sizing. Established initial design model was proved to be effectively used as initial design tool.
