  • The considerable numbers of accidents have been occurred in railway industrials due to human errors by the railway operators, and we recognised that the design of work and the working environment influence the way people behavior. Human factors are a significant contribute to the occurrence of incidents, and that safety education and training guideline need to be designed to railway safety. In order to develop the education and training program guideline for railway operators, we performed investigation not only existing internal training programs and external railway and other industrial's training programs but also education engineering theory and expert interview. As a result we make up guideline to education and training program. The guideline are composed 10 section.

  • The advent of private railroad corporations gave us many changes because of emphasizing on administration's effectiveness. The change has had an effect on safety management too. Most public railway corporations maintain their rolling stocks and facilities by their direct workers on the other hand, private railway corporations depend on outsourcing to cut down the cost of maintenance. But they have almost same safety management system. Therefore we try to study the difference between two type of corporations, especially workers' safety attitude and propose different safety management system depending on direct or indirect workers.

  • Since the railroad accidents due to the human error occupy considerable proportion among the railroad accidents, it is necessary to study the propriety of the physical examination system for the railroad workers. Our government is promoting some systematic supplementation for railroad safety on the basis of the Railroad Safety Act. In this paper, we perform a comparative analysis of domestic and foreign physical examination systems for railroad workers. We also compare the physical examination system for public officials with that for railroad workers. Then we consult expert opinions of the Korean Society of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Through the comparative analysis, we provide useful information that is needed to amend the physical examination system.

  • Railway accidents have caused tremendous casualties and loss of property. In order to reduce the rate of accidents, it is important for the railway operators to elevate their recognition and give effective training as a safety education and training. Through the previous study, we developed regulatory guidance for developing safety education and training program. Then, three educational technology specialists verified it primarily. In this paper, we investigated present condition for running education and training system of domestic railway through result of In-depth interview. And we verified actual reflection through result of Checklist. Finally, improved regulatory guidance for developing safety education and training program was suggested in this study.

  • Recently, many safety measures are developing for the prevention of human error, which is main factors of railway accident. For the efficient management of human factors, many expertise on design, conditions, safety culture and staffing are required. But current safety management activities on safety critical works are focused on training, due to the limited resource and information. In order to establish railway human factors management, a systematic review model is required. Based on system engineering and nuclear industry model, a program review model is proposed in this study. The model includes operating experience review, task analysis, staffing and qualification, human reliability analysis, huma-system interface design, procedure development, training program, verification and validation, implementation and monitoring. Results can be applied for the review of safety measures relating to human factors.

  • This paper is concerned with the development of the requirements for railway safety support information systems. The five safety elements at the system level have been modeled based on the enterprise architecture approach. Specifically, the modeling has been carried out as follows. First, the requirements are derived according to EIA-632 process. Also, the possible scenarios on the accident-investigation-support are developed from the help of relevant personnel in the area. The developed scenarios are reflected in modeling the operational and system architectures of DoDAF approach using a CASE tool. From this architecture model, we can easily get the specifications required for the operations. These results can give the improved understanding of the railway safety system to the members of diverse teams and areas working for the system development.

  • Purpose: This study aims to identify the level of subjective noise perception among School Meal Facility Workers and analyze the relationship between subjective noise perception and insomnia, as well as the factors affecting insomnia. Methods: School meal facility workers were surveyed from November 1 to December 31, 2021, and 717 people were selected as participants for the study. Using SPSS/WIN 25.0, t-test, x2 test, and multiple logistic regression analysis were conducted. The Korean Insomnia Severity Index (ISI-K) was used to evaluate insomnia. Results: The variables that showed significant differences in insomnia in general characteristics, health-related characteristics, subjective health perception, and subjective noise perception of the study participants were mental disorders such as subjective health perception, work stress, depression, etc., gastrointestinal disorders, and subjective noise perception, among which subjective health perception, mental disorders such as depression, and subjective noise perception were analyzed as factors influencing insomnia. Conclusion: To improve the quality of insomnia and sleep among school meal facility workers, there is a need to improve healthcare, emotional management, and noisy work environments.

  • Since reports on trip delays or incidents often appear as accident articles on the press, the social criticisms and concerns on the safety of the urban railway are increasing. Therefore, a railway authority sometimes adopts an abstract safety goal like "let's build the urban railway to a masterpiece level" or "let's obtain an aeronautic safety level" to make citizens relieved and to alert involved persons. However with a vague goal, it is almost impossible to make an implementation plan systematic which helps the authority academically verify and validate if the goal is achieved or not. In this paper, the features of the railway safety are described and the safety models for securing the safety of the urban railway are surveyed and categorized. Based on the comparisons among the features and limitations of the models, we identify a more practical model which can be applied to the urban railway more effectively.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the turnover intentions of railway traffic controllers among employees of a domestic railway corporation. Variables influencing job turnover intention included exploited variables (empowerment, job stress, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, exhaustion) that have been actively studied in other fields. The results showed that the empowerment of railway traffic controllers did not directly affect job stress and turnover intention, but had a direct effect on job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and exhaustion. Job stress did not directly affect job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and exhaustion, and job satisfaction did not directly affect organizational commitment, burnout, and turnover intentions. Burnout has a direct effect on turnover intention, indicating that exhaustion of railroad traffic controllers has an effect on turnover intentions. In conclusion, empowerment has a direct effect on burnout and exhaustion has a direct effect on turnover intention. This study suggests that management of empowerment and exhaustion is important for the prevention of turnover of railway traffic controllers.

  • In this paper, we review a variety of state-of-the-art research on assessment of the railway track capacity. We address the three well-known methods (Yamagishi, UIC 406, and TCRP-13) with individual case study in this research field. First, we explicitly present every derivation-step of the Yamagishi equations that has been most frequently applied in the Korean railway without clear understanding for it. Further, we present a prospective application scheme of the method as an analytic assessment method. Second, we address establishing process of UIC 406 standard and its application method, which is known as the standard method in Europe. Finally, we address the method and application of TCRP-13, and present comparison between the three methods. This paper is expected to contribute for improving understand on the in-using equations and methods in practice as well as for activating application of the internationally well-used method to the Korean railway.
