  • This paper presents a study in the ductility of reinforced concrete beam-column-slab joints Three assemblies were designed 2/3 scale (f'c=240kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, f'c=700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$) and tested to investigate seismic behavior. From the test results, 1) flexural cracks emerge to inside of beam deeply for high strength concrete member, 2) the high-strength specimens degraded in stiffness and strength, and unstable hysteretic behaviors were observed, owing to the brittleness of high-strength concrete beyond its range. 3) The confinement provided by the additional hoops to the column bar is probably the main reason for this improvement in behavior.

  • The primary objective of this study is to make a contribution to the construction of 40~60 story R/C high rise building by developing the reinforcing details which can improve the seismic performance of high-strength (f'c=700kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, fy=4000, 8000kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$) R/C beam-column joints. And the purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the effect of load history on the total energy dissipation capacity of reinforced concrete flexural members. The reinforcing details which can make beam plastic hinging zones moved and spreaded from the column face is proposed to insure the ductile behavior of high-strength RC beam-column joints. The intermediate reinforcement which is horizontally anchored by interlinking each intermediate reinforcements is proposed and tested to examine the mechanical performance of proposed details. Main variables are the shape of the intermediate reinforcements and yield strength of rebars. From the test results, the newly proposed intermediate reinforcement details can move and spread the beam plastic hinging zone about 1.0d from the column face.

  • This paper proposes Headed bar as reinforcement of beam-column joint, and proves seismic performance and reduction of reinforcement congestion. In these case, the use of Headed bars have obvious advantages. The greatest benefit of using Headed bars is not only improved structural performance of beam-column joints, but also the ease of fabrication, construction, and placement. Three-dimensional finite element analysis model is compared with test program which was fulfilled by the proposed model with Headed bar. Also, the plastic hinge region is relocated to the center of the longitudinal beam length according to the strong column-weak beam design philosophy, so Headed bar is used as the joint reinforcement. Therefore, this paper presents results of a computer analysis of a practical solution for relocating potential beam plastic hinge regions by the placing of straight - Headed bar.

  • This study summarizes results of a research project aimed at investigating the inelastic rotation capacity of beam-column joints of reinforced concrete moment frames. A total of 28 specimens were classified as special moment frame connections based on the design and detailing requirements in the ACI 318-99 provisions. Then, the acceptance criteria, originally defined for steel moment frame connections in the AISC-97 Seismic Provisions, were used to evaluate the joint connections of concrete moment frames. Twenty seven out of 28 test specimens that satisfy the design requirements for special moment frame structures provided sufficient strength and are ductile up to a plastic rotation of $3\%$ without any major degradation in strength.

  • The purpose of this study is to experimentally investigate the strength and ductility of reinforced high strength concrete columns under uniaxial load and several test variables. To do this, we have conducted tests on thirteen 20$\times$20$\times$60cm specimens with 8 and 12 longitudinal steel bars subjected to monotonic uniaxial compression. The main variables considered in this test are the configuration of ties, the space the ties, the diameter of ties and yield strength of ties. The results indicate that the strength and the ductility of reinforced high strength concrete columns have been influenced on these variables except yield strength of ties. Judging from test results, real stress of ties at peak concrete stress is suitable variable than yield strength of ties for estimation of the strength gain factor(Ks).

  • The purpose of this study is to make a contribution to the construction of 40∼60 story R/C high rise building by developing the reinforcing details which can improve the seismic performance of high-strength (f'c=700㎏/㎠, fy=4000, 8000㎏/㎠) R/C beam-column joints. The reinforcing details which can make beam plastic hinging zones moved and spreaded from the column face is proposed to insure the ductile behavior of high-strength RC beam-column joints. The intermediate reinforcement which is vertically anchored by interlinking each intermediate reinforcements is proposed and tested to examine the mechanical performance of proposed details. Main variables are the shape of the intermediate reinforcements and yield strength of rebars. From the test results, the newly proposed intermediate reinforcement details can move and spread the beam plastic hinging zone about 1.0d from the column face.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the seismic behavior and evaluate structural performance of columns in Ordinary Moment Resting Concrete Frames (OMRCF). For this purpose 3 story OMRCF building was designed and detailed in compliance to ACI 318 (1999). Only gravity load is considered for the design. It is important to note that details strongly relate to the structural performance. The 1st story columns in the 3 story building are considered in this study since 다lese columns shall resist the largest axial and lateral forces during an earthquate. Four test specimens were made for representing the upper part and lower part of exterior and interior columns. All specimens are two-third scale. Based on the test results this study estimates deformation, ductility, strength, and energy absorption capacities as well as plastic hinge length.

  • This research is aimed to evaluate the effects of repair conditions, axial load intensities and the enlargement of cross sections after strengthening with steel plate and on the structural behavior of the reinforced concrete columns subjected to axial and lateral loadings. 6 columns were tested under uniform axial compression and concentrated load at the midspan until failiure occurs. As test results, It has been found that the amount of grout bar and the condition of strengthening significantly affect the behavior or reinforced concrete column with steel plate and grout 4 bar (C-G4S2 serise) and enlarged reinforced concrete column with steel plate and grout 8 bar (C-G8S2 serise) are increased to 1000% and 1200% in comparison of those of unstrengthened reinforced concrete columns, respectively
